Very cool! I just read this entire thread tonite.

Earlier, you mentioned t-shirts. Are there any available now? I'd be interested in an XL.

Great shop you have there Pugman. There is a Canedy & Otto forge and blower for sale here for $300.00. Not to far from you in Camdenton MO. if you know any one needing one.

Interesting build, great to see you setup with your own space. A few thoughts:

is there a cowling hood going on that chimney flue to stop rain and such coming down it?

Did you consider putting some natural light into the roof? It looks like quite a dark space?

Will you have an issue with condensation in your area? I have big issues with the uninsulated metal roof in my garage, but that has brick built walls. Stuff gets damp from the moisture that condenses and drips off the ceiling.

PugMan,

This has to be some of the coolest stuff I've seen in a long time.

I first opened this thread and started to watch your building. I thought, what kinda' thing is this? Ain't much goin' on here. But, as I continued the read, I saw a theme taking place and the realized, hey, this guy has his stuff together!!! This is a real deal Black Smith shop. AND, you look the part!!

I taught high school metal shop a few years and we covered forging, heat treating, foundry work. So I find this interesting.

For years I've been looking for an anvil. I just got one a few weeks ago. Along with that I got an aluminum housing blower that would be hooked to an electric motor.

Then, this past weekend I stumble upon a genuine old cast iron housing blower for a forge. Very similar to the one you have. Made by Buffalo Tool, Buffalo, NY. It's a hand crank and the length of the crank handle is adjustable. It also has a shaft about 8" long to mount in a pipe pedestal(?) and a provision to be tilted for angle. I have the bolts soaking in penetrating oil right now. I have no idea if it's worth anything. Right now it's locked down and won't turn.

I'll take a pic and post it here, you might be able to tell me more about it.

Oh yeah, you use coal in the forge? Neat stuff you're doin' there.

Here's the pics of those forge blowers and my anvil.

I got the OLD blower operating, and took the housing apart. Fan was bent. Gears look perfect. Could use a new input shaft bushing.

I'll clean it up, paint it and then ??????????????????

Have any idea how old it is?

Awesome setup and great work. I love the Blacksmithing as well. I have my own shop as well in the back yard. I went to Frank Turley's Blacksmithing school in New Mexico about 15 years ago. What a great experience. Just getting back into it and belong to CBA. California Blacksmithing Association. NIce looking shop and tool collection.

PugMan, this is just....frikkin' awesomesauce...That's what it is, Awesomesauce, on toast! I can't even look anymore it's so bad~zz!

If I give you my sister, can I bang some stuff out in your shop? (She's kinda chubby and not all that pretty, but so what, your tools are old, and you don't hear me complaining - heh!-... but she makes a mean Chicken Pot Pie and killer Iced tea..she's just not 'eye candy', if you know what I mean. ). So what say, we got a deal, or what?
LoL!

Alright, seriously...this is an outstanding effort, my man. Huge props to you on a job well done. F'real.

Question: How do you keep your tools and everything from rusting? I live in So. Central Texas and it stays pretty humid here and I can't keep things from getting rusty. What's the secret?

Thanks in advance,
Bug

Hey Pug... You're a blacksmith, so I gotta ask... Do you know Mark Hemmer? He's a Eureka area blacksmith and ferrier, and I've known him all my life.

This is exactly the type of shop I've been looking for. I started blacksmithing in Dec of 2013 and I've been working off my back deck which makes it interesting on windy/rainy days.

Would it be possible to generate a materials list? That would really help me out since I tend to over estimate on projects and I really need to keep this one within budget..

Great job!

Great job on the smithy. I am getting ready to build one myself and have a question for you. Is your building just sitting on the ground or did you bury/cement the posts into the ground?
