Help is so much different than a hand out. I have had a long struggle with family members who did not understand the difference.
True
Smoking is an addiction that negates any reason or conscience a person might have towards other people's property!
Growing up, everyone in the family smoked except me and my grandma on my dad’s side. The damage wasn’t really known to me back then other than the constant smell. When I got my own place that’s when I realize what smoking did to the house. The first place I owned was a travel trailer that someone smoked in, it took a lot of cleaning to get those walls back to a semi white color. Anyone who came to my place had a spot to smoke, I never denied them of their habits, but it was outside on the porch or in the yard if I didn’t have a porch. Nobody was allowed to smoke in my truck either. So there was a lot of waiting for the person to smoke a cigarette at each stop and lots of gum chewing too.

Honestly I don’t think a lot of them knew what it did as they never wanted to intentionally damage someone’s property. When my parents stopped smoking that when they realize the smell that was present when others who smoked came around.

A buddy and I moved into a shop one time that the previous tenants were serious chain smokers. The office walls had been decorated with pictures and plaques of one 'ems 67 firebird from shows and stuff. I always thought the walls in the office were beige, nope white behind the pictures and you could see where every picture was. It took 4 gallons of primer and 3 gallons of paint after we spent three days cleaning the entire office which was only an 8' by 10' area.

Got the smoke room primed.

After cleaning, running the ozone machine several nights, and priming you barely notice the cigarette smell. Slowly the whole house is smelling like the ozone “smell”. That’s the best I can describe the smell as it’s still lingers after airing out the house for several hours and it’s unique. I’ll do the doors in the smoke room outside when the weather warms up.

Best idea ever, lay down synthetic roofing felt for a drop cloth. It don’t move and it’s not taped down, just taped to itself.

IMG_1922.jpeg

I also tested out the green in the study/hobby room. I’m digging it right now. I’ll see what it looks like in daylight.
IMG_1933.jpeg

I was also able to move the benches that was in the attached garage to the other house’s garage. Then I brought over the cabinets and bench top from the other garage.
IMG_1927.jpeg

I need to clean the walls and paint them but for now I just need them out of the way.

I forgot to post the pic before I primed. I went ahead and stripped the paint off the baseboard and entrance door trim. Closet door trim was in good shape and not flaking so I left it after roughing it up with maroon scotch pad.

Here is the photo showing the difference between the old smoke paint and the white shellac base primer.

Majority of the trash is out for the taking!

IMG_1947.jpegIMG_1955.jpeg

I split it between two places to not overload one trash truck.

Reclaimed most of the back porch. The rest goes out next trash day.
IMG_1956.jpeg

Got the future guest room painted. Just touch up on the baseboards.
IMG_1952.jpeg

And got my study painted, just touch up of the baseboards and clean the hardwood floor.
The color is Boreal form Behr.

IMG_1957.jpeg

Carpet was ordered for the other two bedrooms and should be here in two weeks or so.

Got the rest of the cabinets in the attached garage. They are just out of the way for now.

A lot of little stuff was done also but nothing really photo worthy.

I’m very familiar with the outlines of photos on the wall from cigarette smoke. Imagine what it does to the lungs!

Need to polish the wood floor, but the study is done for now.
IMG_2016.jpeg

Someone threw the doors to the closet away, so now I’m debating on modifying this closet for a gun safe. Open to ideas, but it will be awhile before I do anything to the closet as there’s other priorities on the list.
IMG_2017.jpeg

This room used to be my middle step daughter room before it was my youngest’s room. So I left some things for memories sakes.
IMG_2015.jpegIMG_2018.jpeg

Got a bunch of other stuff done at the house, but it’s not really photo worthy. y’all don’t want to see the new Bidet and toilet seat right? 🤣😂

When we bought our new place in Prescott the first thing that got frisbee‘d into the trash was the PO’s ******* shower! So disgusting! He also enjoyed coffee enemas, so, there was that too!
Apparently the bidet becomes part of the house if it’s listed with it installed. Personally I just don’t want to remove it and have a possible leak develop. But I don’t do coffee enemas, so no worries there!

I should have also mentioned, the outlets are the old ones. Due to the age of the house wires, I will be replacing the wires in the house and then I’ll replace the outlets. Due to the insulation cracking and exposing bare wire when I replaced the light switch, I don’t want to touch any of the wires til I replace them.

I think I know what you’re saying, basically boxes that slides under the silver toolboxes on the floor. Just two wheels on the back so you pick the front up to make it roll out from under. Not a bad idea!
Cody, you could put four wheels on each tray. I put casters on a box that keep the box low to the ground but do require some space on each side.

I might do that once I get in the garage to organize

Contractor showed up today and was able to move the dirt pile around the yard. Now it’s starting to level out around here!

He will be putting stone in front of the garage so I can get the camaro in the garage once I clear it out.
Good thing you got that dirt moved around today. Looks like 4-5 days forecasted for rain here in the Burg

Lookin' good Cody. Crazy what a little grading does to the aesthetics of a place.
It is huh, been a long time since that area has been flat behind the garage. Then with the front being built up to the garage floor is making it look normal.
Has to be a great feeling to get that part finally done. Really changes things.
It’s a great feeling! With spring around the corner I’m hoping to get some nice grass growing behind the garage. Just need to bring in some manure and topsoil to get the area level and ready for quality grass seed.

True, the dirt is packed down and seems to be holding tightly. Hopefully it’s good for the rain and won’t wash away!

He got some stone in place in front of the garage. Wasn’t able to get the full 20 ton of stone he was planning to install to level it out and allow the camaro easy access to the garage. I’ll also tamp the stone down to help lock them in place.

Oh and he took the bushes out for me, which is nice as I always had to avoid them each time I wanted to back up to the left garage door. Just need to cut them up and I can call public work to come get the cut up bushes.

Been cleaning, organizing, putting furniture in the house, painting, and throwing stuff away along with sending it down to goodwill.

I used the plate compactor and lock the stone on top some. Also put the trailer beside the garage and parked the boat in front of the garage too.
IMG_2221.jpeg

Painted the bedroom that had the smoke problem. The dark blue is an accent wall and wifey got these vinyl stickers to put up of flowers and leafs. Got to wait a couple of weeks since the paint needs to cure before the stickers go up.

IMG_2222.jpeg

I also installed a light switch cover in the study finally.
IMG_2223.jpeg

Still got a lot to sort out but moving toward with projects.

Same old story. Throw stuff away, goodwill, and put things in their home. Got a good size dent knocked out today. Atleast I’m now sleeping in my bedroom and on my bed now! Along with I can walk to the back of the garages without stepping on anything.

Now to relax and chill to go to work tomorrow.

Luck would have it, I found the label on the steel decking when I was working in the bunker.
IMG_6943.jpeg

It’s 20ga metal. D-MAC was the company I bought it from and they are based out of Georgia with storage units all over US.
When you said earlier in the thread that the steel came from a company out of Georgia with branches all over, I Knew it was Dmac. We buy roof decking from them, very good company to deal with.

I had a very pleasant experience with the company, so I’m glad to hear someone else has worked with them before and it’s not just me!

Well that’s one way to slow me down.

I took some bush cutting to my in laws house to dump down the hill. When I backed up to the hill I parked the truck over a ditch spot. The driver door was over the low spot and when I stepped out of the truck I had to jump down a little. Well I hit that wet grass on the ditch and I slid down til my boot caught the ground. Next thing I knew I had rolled my ankle and I fell to the ground where I had to chill for a little while on my hands and knees as the pain was throbbing in my ankle. I eventually got up by pulling myself by grabbing the tire and then the bed of the truck. Stood there while the ankle kept throbbing and then eventually I slowly went to the tailgate and was able to unload the bed. Then I hoped back into the truck and went to the other garage to load a few things and waited for someone. Made it home and have been resting, icing, compressing, and elevating my ankle. Today it’s like a grapefruit but I’m able to walk on it and hobble around the house.

A very nice bruise all around the heel area and right above the heel pad.

Going to work tomorrow and we will see how it goes. Worst case is I’ll take half a day if the pain is too much to handle after walking on it for awhile.

Gotta watch that wet grass ! I used to see some nasty ankle sprains and even worse ankle fractures. I still remember as a new nurse the first time I saw the bottom of someones tibia because their foot had repositioned itsself to the side of their lower leg! Ice and elevation will be your friends in getting this one healed up quick!

When it happened I saw in my head where the two long bones just went sideways and hit the ground while my foot was on the side of my leg, but luckily I think my work boot saved me some and kept it from being worst then it is. But it was painful.

This morning it’s not too bad to stand on it, just can’t bend it completely just yet. So I’m doing my best to stay off it as much as I can. The goal is to elevate and ice it tonight after work, along with compression to help with the swelling.

I hate ankle sprains, they are such a naggy injury and not much more than time will heal them.

I happen to "blow my ankle up" about 20yrs ago slalom waterskiing, bruised where yours is, as well as on the other side of my foot and up at the base of my calf, was told it was a "high ankle sprain," the PT I worked with said one of the best things to do was "write the alphabet" with my big toe, basically sit with it elevated and work on mobility.

Wish you a speedy recovery, the new garage needs you!

Thanks, i‘ll try the write the alphabet trick.

Base on how it’s been going since I got hurt Monday night, it seems everything around me needs me back in action!

Ouch!! I sprained my ankle numerous times. Worst one was playing basketball. I was about 20. I recall writhing in agony trying to sleep - it was terrible. Usually took about 2 weeks to really feel much better. LOL, now over 50 years later it would take more like 2 months!!

That is probably the thing I dislike the most about getting older. I'm not saying that I'm old, but I've been dealing with a mild lateral ligament sprain in my foot for about a month now. Thankfully, other than a few tender steps when I first start walking, it hasn't really affected my mobility. Meanwhile, my kids are like Wolverine and heal almost before my eyes. My daughter crashed her scooter on Sunday, scraping up her hands, knee, and foot. Yesterday (Wednesday), her hands were completely healed, and her knee and foot were not far behind.

Not a lot to write about as the garage related stuff is still in a shambles. We lost power Friday night and just got it back 1:30am today. So I was tending to the generator and running extension cords. Not a big deal as the weather wasn’t too bad. We did get the upstairs living room cleared out of all of the boxes. Then we played musical chairs with the sofas. Got several furnitures out of the Texas Barn but still got a bunch to sort out. Did some cleaning of the yard.

Did go to the Zoo today and enjoy the animals.

IMG_2287.jpeg

Maybe tomorrow I’ll work on the attached garage but I’ll be setting out a lot of trash for trash day.

Ankle is doing better, maybe at 80% range but my left side of the ankle and my big toe still sore.

Cody, the Garage Journal needs a "Messed Up Lower Extremities" thread. A couple of my Florida buddies, Mark (@shopnut) and Shorty (@shortykorte) could have earned 'Founder' awards for their entries:

@Bob Heine , I’m glad I didn’t need any hardware. Luckily I’m walking fine just some little stiffness and pain to remind me it’s not 100%. Wearing a compression sock to support it and help push the swelling down. Slowly the swelling is going away. I can now feel my ankle bone that normally sticks out on the side.

@shade so far I’ve restrained myself, but her mother did come up to us at church and apologize for what her daughter did to us. I told her she can’t control what her daughter does no more then we can control the weather really so it’s ok. None the less we’re past it and if she pays me for the utilities she owes me then I’ll consider it a miracle.

In the Texas Barn, I’m still working on getting furnitures out of it. Since one of them needed to be repaired, I figured I’d go ahead and work on it. Luckily it’s not too bad, just a corner fell apart at the joints.

Here it is glued and clamped.
IMG_2356.jpeg

Since I’m having a lot of folks calling for mower repairs I figured I’d take a few on to help offset some bills during the move.

The unexpected bill is Garold, yep the same cat who swallowed a part of a rubber bracelet awhile back and needed a surgery to remove it.

Apparently he developed a Hematoma in his left ear.
IMG_2351.jpeg

$600 and an 30 mins procedure and he now gets to wear the cone of shame for 2 week while his ear heals. They put a plastic piece it looks like on his ear to help flatten it back down.
IMG_2354.jpeg

He’s damn luckily I really like him. I asked the vet if it was worth getting pet insurance and they said with him he’s too high risk and insurance would be too high to be worth it. So, I’ll just set up a Garold saving account. Just hope he don’t get hurt before the account has a chance to build up!
