There has been no activity in the garage for a couple of days, but I found a couple of older pictures that might interest You:

Here is my Volvo on Volvo. This picture is from 2006 (I think). It shows a 142 I was in the beginning of repair/restore, and the 444 on top, just resting. But please notice my home-made 2 post lift
It did not pass my own safety inspection following the flood. But it served me well without any incidents for 7-8 years. But please don't try this at home..

Same thing, now with a Mini below. it was My wifes for a couple of Years. Nice car, but sadly rusted faster than I could keep up with:

Lot of stuff going on here. It is from august last year, before the rebuild started. I was about to send the PV to sandblasting:

It came back with a lot of new holes in it that I had to take care of.

So a couple of months later, this finally started. Wow, what a mess. The rest You know:

Correct about the blasting cabinet. Home made and working ok. But I wish it could be smaller when not in use, and bigger when in use..
The (Rover) Mini was a 1990. Totally not suitable for Norwegian climate. I have never seen a car deteriorate as fast. But really good looking though.

This is Volvo's powerful 44hp-engine for the PV. Original Volvo green.

Today I scored a lampshade. Feel my testosterone level sink just by saying that.. But i have a plan. It was perfect size, with green enamel on the outside, and white inside. Old and worn. Will look great on a gooseneck lamp beside the door.

I have also looked for a thermometer with BP-logo. That would fit below the lamp. But I have had no luck. The vintage ones are just too pricey. So I decided to make one myself for now. Bought a white painted simple one for about $4, and took off the glass part. Then masked and spayed it green.

A gooseneck lamp would be perfect above it, don’t You agree?:

I also wanted to show You the rest of the garage. That has not been covered too much in this thread.

View of the workbench and cabinets. I plan to install some more cabinets above the workbench. Might have to make them myself to get them exactly as I want. Note that the only thing touching the floor is the toolbox and thrashbin. Garage rule no 1: the floor is holy ground.

For now, I have placed the compressor in this corner. I also have a grinder there. Not sure if this will be the final setup:

The mural does make the garage feel roomier. I wanted to use light colors and not crowd the motive too much just for that reason. Also the rest of the garage is kept in white.

I am wondering about the colors on the cabinets and workbench. Would it look good in green and yellow? Now that I have a BP theme going on here, it might be an idea to complete it. Picture the worktop, toolbox and cabinets in green, with a yellow stripe or something? Or will it bee too much?
Mmm, have to think about that.

44hp isn't much, but I love seeing the old motors. The only motors I've seen in person are red blocks. Too many people have let those old girls go to scrap in the US.

The red-block B16A was considered a major leap forward when it was introduced. Looked very similar to the green B4B on the outside, but was completely re-engineered on the inside. Great engine.


This weekend has been devoted to cabinet building. Above my workbench i want overhead cabinets. I will make them myself to get the right dimensions. I have decided on a plywood frame, steel edges and sliding plywood doors.

I hoped to hang up the frame before I called it a day, but realised I have to remove the steel cabinet to be able to. It was not possible to slide the frame straight in.

You have a nice collection of vintage Volvo's, nonhog. 262C Bertone is one of my favorites from the late 70's. And the Amazon is a beauty. A PV would fit right in



I managed to hang the cabinet in place this evening, and installed the bottom shelves. It looks ok, it will be better when the door are in place. I plan on using angled steel 40x40x3(mm) to surround the front edges, and connect it with a flatbar where the partition walls are. The angle steel will also provide an edge for the sliding doors. Well, that is the plan.

Almost a week since last update. You know how it is, got to make a living too.

This weekend's recreation has been all about lighting. Yesterday I installed a light sensor for the outdoor lights. I previously had bulbs with light sensors, but they were difficult to adjust, and all came on at different times. Annoying. So now that's fixed. I also recieved the enamel lampshade I bought a week ago, so it was time to make a complete unit. I found another "industry-look" lamp at a local shop, and switched the shades. It came out ok. I think I will hang it a little higher eventually.







Then I installed LED-fixtures for the workbench, and wired them to a movement sensor (Jack Olsen style ). Had to turn the other lights off to see the function:





With all the new lights, I just had to make a "Garage by night" shot:

Just some small progress this weekend. The cabinet is still waiting for doors and frame. I've ordered aluminium for both. That's a change of plans from the plywood doors. Curious to see how it turns out.

So today I wanted to finish the gooseneck lamp. I wanted to change the angle, and mount it higher on the wall. And at the same time change color to match the green and white shade.

So I bent the pipe to the desired angle. Due to not having the neccessary tools, this resulted in some small dents, but some filler and primer fixed it. Then I primed the whole fixture, and painted it green:





That was much better. I also changed the bulb to a smaller 15 watt, that reduced the glare. Satisfied with the outcome.

Cost: The enamel shade was $25, so was the lamp. $50 for this is not so bad.

I agree, Vernmotor. Small adjustment, big difference I think. I will be searching for a couple of fixtures for the ceiling, same style. That could be cool. I can add lights down the centerline of the garage without interfering with the potential lift height.

The clock face was temptingly empty. This is a cheap IKEA clock, so easy to replace if the result is no good. So I had a go at it.

Not too bad, but I will add some text eventually. Just need to decide on something cool to write.

I am not quite happy with it yet. But I think it will turn out better with some text.

I have mentioned that there will be more signs, and today I started another. I have had this image on my mind for a while. I will paint it between the lamp and the thermometer:

So here we go. First line up with pencil and ruler:

Then trace the lines with a pen:

Masking:

Then I paint everything white, and all is gone .
Not to worry, the trace lines will shine through when the paint is dry.

Made some progress today. First the cabinets. I have been waiting patiently for the materials I ordered, and they arrived on friday. All exept the angle for the frame. But at least I could get the doors cut and fitted.

I first cut the aluminium plates. They are "rice-grain" type, 2mm thick.





I then cut and fitted an aluminum angle as guide for the inner doors. The overlapping doors will slide on the outside, guided by the outer frame.







I could not fit the outer doors, as the frame still is missing. But I hanged and secured them with ducttape just to see what it looked like. I think this will be ok. When the frame is fitted, none of the wood will be visible.




I also had some time to add a little to the Volvo-sign. Unfortunately the blue color was too dark, so I will have to repaint. But no big deal.
