How do you actually get the employee discount? Do you just walk into your local dealership and flash your badge or what do you do? Is it possible to order them online and get them shipped from Morton parts or something since they have CAT part numbers? I'd love to get some CAT branded tools especially at a discount!

Sorry, just noticed your response here.
I can only use my discount at my dealership, as my manager must approve any purchases (kinda just a formality, he would never deny anything). There is no way to purchase online.

Snap-On owns CDI. I think the newest and best CDI products go to the Snap-On truck for a year or three before they're released for general sales. Now that the TechAngle has been on the truck for awhile, CDI is selling them under their own name, and for select private-label customers.
I have every expectation that Gearwrench knocks-off the genuine, original CDI item in some nameless, faceless factory in Asia. If we're lucky, it's made in Taiwan or South Korea. Therefore, it probably comes from Communist China.

My two cents is not to go with the one piece non removable tips, when they break and they will you either have to wait for the truck or go back to the store and beg for a replacement. I have some but my go to pliers have the replaceable tips. When working flat rate you can't make money waiting on the truck.

At the risk of me being drawn and quartered ..... it seems that SO would be hard-pressed to design and manufacture electrical tools. Seems as if the market would be too small to make it economical. I'd sooner expect them to re-brand a well-established electrical tool manufacturer..... But maybe I'm way off base.

yes OTC used to be good ,they have gone to chi-com hell ,, years ago rented an OTC cam bearing tool the "stud "that retained the "bearing puller" {totally bizarre design} snapped off ,dang thing was porous ,looked like pot metal

Well OTC was bought and now part of Bosch Service Solutions unless that has changed and is a massive group of Automotive tool companies like Kent-Moore Miller etc geared towards OE special tool companies so they don't have low cost competition but they have been going down the last ten years really really sad

I own lots of gearwrench ratchets and sockets very similar to matco as well as some 10 inch channelock slip joints that are identical to mac. I bought all of it at least half the price of the tool truck brands and it seems to work quite well.
And what does this have to do with finding tool truck equivalents?

I have to say here in Australia, I rate SP and Sidchrome tools highly. Although both are made in Tiwan, they are still quality hand tools with life time warranties. Their prices are fair and dealer support are in general good. Like most of you i know that different companies excell in different areas. Like for example knipex are a market leader in pliers, hench they are my go to supplier for that type of product and so on and so on. As a professional mechanic my tool box is packed with hundreds of diffrent brands that in my opinion perform the best in thier class.

Don't hold me to it but I believe Caterpillar and Case IH wrenches are rebranded Snap On.
I believe that there are also Matco wrenches that are rebranded Armstrong. I'm not sure if they're currently Armstrong but I think they were for a time. They are also once or are currently rebranded by another company. Not sure who though.

Just in general? Cat are rebranded Snap On. Case might be Bluepoint rebrand, not sure. Armstrong is same as Matco, minus the opti torque. KD and Allen are same as Armstrong. BluePoint and Williams Taiwan are the same. Proto USA and Proto Taiwan are same design, but different material. I'm sure there are others.

Proto Taiwan and USA have their asd - anti slip design and sunex have a flank drive style with the v jaw. They are actually really nice wrenches.
