Strange I have that same GW ratchet but the none flex head model, same 120T mechanism with red handle and that thing locks up on me all the time. The toggle switch just locks up. I even went ahead and bought a rebuild kit for it, eventually it started displaying the same issues very shortly.

Not a ratchet I would trust for work. Mine was just used for home use.

No kidding? I love mine. It’s my definite go to for tight spots or top end engine work.

I wanted to like it, but mine is a POS. Still haven’t trashed it yet though.:bounce:
Picked up a long Williams flex head as a replacement, it’s a nice 1/4 ratchet.

Does cornwell make their own screwdrivers & pliers?

They only make their ratchets and breaker bars
I picked up my first two Cornwell tools when friends of mine gifted me a tool box in return for help packing their stuff, and borrowing my trailer when they moved.

Who makes Cornwell wrenches (mine is a useless 11/32) and sockets (Impact, 1/2" drive, 3/4")

I have the sense that Corny used to make these items, but doesn't any more. But what do I know? I'm just an idiot with a keyboard.

Cornwell makes there own in mogadore ohio. They are very good wrenches and ratchets. Their Screwdrivers are made by Whitte in germany.

They, like every other tool truck, offer a cheaper line of tools called blue power. some are usa made, but most are rebranded gearwrench or sunex

I found a couple of "Blue Power" sockets mixed-in with the rest; I'm glad you mentioned that those are the discount line.

Snapondave says they only make ratchets and breaker bars. You say they make wrenches and sockets.

I don't know who to believe; and of course the Cornwell web site isn't going to clarify anything. When I was looking for a roto-ratchet, I know I couldn't buy Cornwell because it was a subcontracted deal--the same Asian product other companies sell, but with a blue handle and the price doubled.

I get the sense that Corny is like Matco--they make 1% of what's in the catalog, and buy-in everything else from the low bidder. Mac does plenty of that, but at least they've got corporate-family manufacturing via Proto and the rest of the Stanley Empire.

Don't know if this was touched on yet, but was placing an order with Snap-On online so took a flyer and ordered one set of KRA15a wrench rails to try. Seem to work out well for my needs.

So later went looking for wrench racks also but wasn't ordering enough to make the shipping cost worthwhile so started perusing other websites/vendors offerings for similar to Snap-On wrench racks, socket organizers, etc. So find on Autozone's website wrench rails that look exactly like the Snap-On KRA15a wrench rails other than perhaps color. Ordered up some high visibility green ones at half the price of Snap-On's plus most importantly shipped to my local store for free and in store pick-up like the next day. Rails look identical to the Snap-On's. On Autozone's website they came up as a "Great Neck" branded product. I believe OEM Tools and Great Neck are basically the same company. Certainly looks like OEM/Great Neck is the supplier to Snap-On for the KRA15a's

Ernst used to make all of those for Snap-On, they probably still do. A rail like that is pretty easy to copy, there's got to be a dozen places making them now. That's one place where I'd just go with the lowest cost instead of paying the truck vig.

Hi, I'm. Not sure if this has been talked about in here but I'm. After a set of picks. I had a cheap set and they bent when I put any pressure on them. I've seen Williams are a snap on company and I've seen their pick handles are the same as bluepoint. But I've also seen some Toptul handles that are identical also. Just wondering if they are the same picks? 6f0abbb32307750c97bc036047198451.jpg6f29647f5754f0d6f99b808bf282e161.jpg

cdi still the best torque wrench? don't currently own one, looking for a 3/8 kinda do all. thanks

"Best" would be subjective, but they still supply every tool truck. That being said, the Tool Trucks do replace the ratcheting mechanism with their own. We use several different CDI Torque Wrenches on our production line. We have them calibrated annually and have been going strong for years.

IMO, Stahlwille makes the best non digital torque wrench. It has a really nice tactile click when you reach your torque value.

I’m not certain but I believe CDI only “supplies” the Snap On torque wrenches since Snap On is the parent company of CDI. You are correct in the ratchet heads being different between them.

I just bought two CDI’s and am pleased with them.

EZRed makes the Matco neck light, but the Snap-On has several differences in both look and operation that make me think it’s not the same light.

Hmmm, I'll have to compare a friends S-O neck light. I thought they were the same. Any idea who makes the folder? Really nice light, slim and has 3 different lights on it.

Canadian Tire or Gearwrench etc...

I read elsewhere that the Matco wrenches are made by Kabo and the GearWrench wrenches are made in another factory (also in Taiwan). Is GearWrench the same style of wrench, or is it actually the same wrenches, just branded differently?

in addition to the wrench rails, they have a whole kit of toolbox organization stuff including a couple different trays and the plastic socket organizers. I was looking for those trays recently and I found that the exact same ones are available from a lot of different brands at a wide range of prices. The brands include Napa Carlyle, Snap-on, Gearwrench, Ernst, and several others including at least one more tool truck brand, I want to say Mac but not sure on that. The Ernst ones from Amazon or Tooltopia were the best price I found

As a former Cornwell dealer who has toured their factory, I can tell you that Cornwell makes their own sockets and wrenches.

Yep, their "hardline" stuff are still made in house. He may be thinking of the Blue Power stuff which is their flavor of Expert/Blue Point.

FIFY.

As alluded to earlier, the tough part is to figure out what they MAKE versus what they buy-in. And Corny isn't good at providing those details.

Why WOULD they tell you outright who makes stuff for them, so you could go buy it cheaper? That would be a hell of a bad business plan. Generally, though, you can figure out who makes the outsourced stuff based on model numbers.

This vid explains it.
