Since I've finished the restoration of my Torpedo cases and the Tombstone case that I picked up from Joshotto I thought it time to reorganize the Blackhawk area by putting all the porto power sets together and the Nugget sets together and scatter the CD tool boxes and the bigger tool boxes along the wall.

Here is what I came up with
The Porto powers

I'm not into the vintage tool thing, but this is absolutely fantastic! Beautiful work!

Well, there might not have been many to begin with. Now I I’d like to find the removable handle model.

I didn’t remember Alloy Artifacts had one of these bullet extendables. Mine has two patents (1995009 for the Pfauser ratchet mechanism, and 2282148 Mandl previous style removable handle, and a Pat’s Pend stamp. Thanks to AA, I see that the pending patent is in reference to this here non-removable conversion style handle, which is 2520652 joint effort by Pfauser and Mandl seen below. That indicates that my example must be a touch earlier than AA’s since theirs has all three patents present.

Datamp on the other hand still has this listed as never produced.

Pretty cool it was a joint effort by the inventors. The attorneys’ names also caught my attention. Lieber & Lieber. Not to be confused with songwriter/production team Leiber and Stoller, or this would most definitely have been a hit!

Hmmm. One of mine has two patents and the other 2 and another pending. Should one of the handles come off?

Nice. It looks like you have both of those stamping examples I was pointing out,

To answer your question, I was referring to the removable handle two length ratchet. The one with the round selector head on the head, and standard handle. Not bullet style, sorry.

So I have picked up another old blackhawk tool box. It has the roller balls on the bottom of it.
My question to the crew is what tool kit came in this box? It has the drop down front plate and the 2 finger tray and 2 lower drawers.
A little help please

I've never seen this variation of the "R" case. If the drawers were not there, I'd swear you have a 70RD Treasure Chest.

Thanks guys for the help. I first thought it was a treasure chest but the drawers thru me. but after the thought that the drawers were an add on by the owner I've inspected the drawers and for sure they are home made and brassed together so This box will be holding my extras and duplicates

I got a nice 11-ND set in the mail and after a little clean up it could go out to the BPG for display B U T I can't leave good enough alone so I'm thinking of doing a little body work to the box and shining it up with new paint and a good decal.

Ever think of doing a video? Your work turns out so well, we all want to see.

You’re like the Indiana Jones of vintage Blackhawk. How do you always find this stuff? lol

Ok so I have a question for you Blackhawk history Pro's
I just purchased a complete set of Indianhead sockets and want to know when they were in circulation and what tool sets they came with.
I've looked at 1926 catalog and they post numbered sockets for the Q D sets. I also have Blackhawk sockets with no particular marks just the fraction size HELP

I wondered this about 5 years ago when I came across a bag full of them at a flea market. I wish I kept all of them but I did manage to create a complete set for myself, but I digress.

Through careful consult with other Blackhawk collectors here on GJ, the consensus at the time was that arrowheads vanished in 1924 making 1923 the last time they were around. Another interesting data point discovered later on was that while the Indian head logo vanished from their tools, the counter top merchandisers and tool boards retained the Indian head logo as late as 1926. Here is one example you'll find where the QD line of tools (unmarked) are seen in the same catalog as Indian head logo merchandisers:

I have noticed that there are 2 different styles of knurl and the made in the U.S.A stamps are different and the thickness around the socket side are a bit different too so there must be an early and later set of these beauties

O.T.G. is that speeder in that set numbered?

The early ones have the narrow knurl and the later ones have the wide band knurl. The early ones simply say U.S.A. while the later ones say Made in U.S.A. Early ones have flush socket faces while the later ones have a curved indentation.

My bag of sockets came with a really beat to hell wooden box with remnants of an orange and black Blackhawk label on the inside lid.

Come to think of it, I saw a set of the later Blackhawk arrowhead sockets on Ebay about a week ago. They were the later knurl style and priced around 500 bucks. You can go have a look at that closed auction to see what they look like. There were a lot of pictures.

Aha! I should have known. You're the scoundrel who wandered off with that lot. :ROFLMAO: I was watching it to see if the market has really shifted this far for the really early Blackhawk stuff.

You have a nice set of later production arrowheads. I looked over the pictures and they have all of the traits I mentioned for the 22-23ish period.

Now that I know you have real eyes on those sockets, is the black coating naturally worn off or did someone try to clean them and end up taking the black coating off the sockets? It was hard to determine when I was sifting through the pictures.

So here's a pretty clean 1/2" drive and I guess the 3/4" drive stuff started before they got rid of the caricature, but man, what is that supposed to be? a Radish with Alex Caruso inside?
