They are certainly out there and sometimes they appear at, "you ****" pricing. This one slipped through my fingers because of the seller's unwillingness to allow a 3rd party pay and pickup the item for me. :dunno:

It sold for 80 bucks.
Is this the one from Illinois?

One of my dream boxes .....

A lot of people do not want to bother with shipping or dealing with people from out of state.
I missed the one Don Long got (big red one) - my brother in law did not want to bother picking it up, the guy did not respond for a day and then Don got it.
There was another one there (similar to Don Longs yellow one - for $100). My brother in law was flying to MA - e-mailed the seller about dimensions to see if it can go in a luggage... Crickets... Gone in 2 weeks...

I suspect it was illegal to have Blackhawk in MA - all my 3 boxes came out of state. In 4 years I found one socket and one wrench (both newer ones...). But I know - somebody has to have them here!!!

I have a lead on Blackhawk 49996 ratchet of these design (all I had to do it complain about bad luck with Blackhawk on Monday...
) Already looked it up - not a freewheeling version with a different cap...
Does anybody have this model (or similar in 3/8 drive). Any common problems to look for? Is it easy to take it apart for cleaning (well, is it wasy to put it back together : ) )

If somebody has one, can you make a close up picture of the top?

The image is from Alloy Artifact site...

Those were an early round head model. Not freewheeling. Very tough though.

Thank you, Oldtuleguy!
I guess I am safe that nothing will fly out and then I will have to look for a tiny metal ball for hours!!! (Do not ask... 1/4" Snap On clening...)

Asked the owned to send me a picture (he sent me a picture from the back only for some reson) and hopefully we can agree on the price before I have a long drive.

Well you are more into the Jacks and what not, my focus is more hand tools. Alot of this stuff is getting scarcer. I have passed on a couple of the press benches (just out of my scope) but have torpedo box set (its just too cool). As far as socket sets Mandl was a genius. From his days at husky(which I collect as well) in the 20s to the incredible baldie ratchets, nuggets and bomb box sets it was an impressive run.

I have the emblem and the front decal for the box but will hold off putting them on til I restore the box.
I'm going to try my new ultrasonic cleaner on the sockets tomorrow

Looks great, Don. I think I need to move to CA to get some (meaning all) of the tools - got a lead on a ratchet and 2 sockets in MA, but no luck...
Please make good pictures once you fill it (of everything in it and what goes where
(and please add it to the https://www.garagejournal.com/forum...-blackhawk-are-welcomed-as-well.482368/page-2).
Can you document your restoration as well? My box is in the worse shape - I will have to do it one day too

There was an S1 for sale in the Portland area a few years back. Someone here snagged it for 50 bucks and for some reason I thought it was you, Don. Did you pass on that one? It's in your designated picking area! ;)

Blackhawk had an astonishing array of color schemes. Many, many years ago, when I tricked-out this 32-CD set (excuse the unsightly ph@#%ing photobucket watermarks)...

...into this...

...I found this ad from 1929 that said the case was "red and black mottled", whatever the heck that meant.

I went with black-and-gold faux alligator instead! :)

And I call this 18-A set the Steelers box. That yellow IS absolutely original! Black exterior.
