This (30" something long) toolbox popped up on marketplace couple days ago. The seller was asking $300 and no, I'm not the lucky buyer, someone else purchased it within day of listing (supposively for 275)

Nice set! But if you're going to put 1943 tools in the box, why not go with a reproduction wartime decal? The 'transition' year was 1939, where the catalog still shows a couple sets with old decals and most with the new. In the 1943 catalog, all the sets have the new decals. If you already put the old repro decal on the refinished box, you could pull it off in the voice track..., 'the box was leftover stock,' etc. Just my $.02.

...Tried to make it into a separate thread to avoid contamination of this one, but got no answers...

Couple of questions for members who have old Blackhawk ratchets/ hinged offset drivers with older Lock-On mechanism
Can still used them with modern sockets (which do not have the buttons). Do they engage well or slip off easily?
Since one can not buy modern metric sockets with the buttons, I wonder if Lock-On mechanism presence made older Blackhawk freewheeling ratchets absolete or not (unless one uses it for SAE only since I never saw Lock-On metric sockets by Blackhawk (I bet they existed though...)
-were Blackhawk freewheeling ratchets ever sold with regular and not Lock-On mechanisms? (may be at the end of production?

I have an old 3/4 Snap On extension which has a regular ball detent on one side and a button which looks somewhat like a Lock-On mechanism on the other. What was the system called for Snap On? ... Mine is probably long gone - I assume there had to be a spring behind that button to keep it sticking out, but it probably broke long time ago.

Thank you

The Snap-On was called Loxocket and I’ve seen ratchets and that with the lock button removed. Like an impact drive tool with a lock button, you probably don’t want to stick any old socket on it because if there isn‘t an open hole in the side of the socket it might get stuck on there. I don’t know on the specific Blackhawk questions but it was probably obsoleted over time.

I can tell you with certainty that you can use most modern metric sockets with your vintage Blackhawk ratchets and extensions because I do this all the time.

That said, every so often you will have a socket that doesn't want to easily come off but with some additional persuasion, the socket will eventually come off.

As for how well they remain on the tool of choice, I find that they stay on well enough to use without any sort of issue. If you have a project that requires use of something like the lock-on system, then I would move to modern tools that have more bite on the socket.

Here’s a few items I picked up this weekend. The ratchets and sockets came from Bmwrd0👍. Many thanks for them! Now I have to clean them up!

I got a baldie ratchet, another 1/2 drive, speed wrench and some 7/16 sockets. Also picked the distributor wrench as well! Sadly no tool boxes though.

Came across these Blackhawk Tool Boards on Craigslist in the Kansas City area (not mine, just sharing). Not vintage, but thought someone might have interest

So im not familiar with the hand tools i have always been into the bigger items. I go for the carts, jacks, boxes, and signs. I am looking to get 4 of the bald head design ratchets. I am interested in one of each size 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, and 3/4. If anyone has any for sale let me know and if anyone knows if they are tough to come by please let me know. Thank you

I don't see baldies in the wild anymore. Ebay has a steady supply though.

I have found one or two in the wild. They are out there, but not as common as an SK.

I did, however, lose out of a 1/2" freewheeling ratchet by mere minutes at the Restore yesterday. And the guy even knew exactly what it was. So, keep looking, you will find them.

I missed a 3/4" drive tool set on E/b the other day because I was on a Cruise ship and had bad internet.
It had 2 extensions for my tool cabinet. The T17X and the T8X both I need to complete this cabinet

60 (2).jpgIMG_2333.JPG

So I'm still on the hunt. And the T11 valve grinder is one I've not seen yet either

I feel your pain on the T11. I bought a set off Marketplace just to get the T11 for my merchandiser. The T11 I grabbed only came with one blade but I believe there were around 5 total blades for it.

How is the hunt going for your merchandiser Horse?
Since I found this one I have my first one ready to sell cheep
You have the larger version and it looks great. I still have a little ways to go on my smaller version. I need:

Handles
T5, T13, T60

Socket #s
16, 20, 14, 19, 25, 30, 18

The fleas have been horrible so far. I don't expect any change in luck this season. I also need the smaller version of the merchandiser topper. I'm sure hens teeth will be easier to find. I may have to make my own whenever I get finished with my spring house list.
