Nice Torpedo!

The only BH tool I have is one of the older DBE deep offset with the groove. (The top wrench in this pic)
Guess that's circa 1943 vintage? Wouldn't mind completing the set of these.

Here is an old set of Blackhawk sockets in a wooden carrying case. This is a 1/2" drive set and I placed a 1/2" blackhawk ratchet across the top to show how big this set is.

i've picked up a few small items lately but not enough to show off except these.
twertski picked up these for me.
some have asked when NB started making blackhawk. i believe i said once early/mid 50s.
the catalog on the left is definately jan. 1953. the one on the right i think is not much later.

Beat: i picked up this Blackhawk socket set a while ago and wanted to shine them up before posting them. they are way down on the to do list so thought i'd post maybe a before and after. i might use them in my daily box or are they too old and too rare to risk losing one of them? i think they are 1929's or around because i found this catalog page. since you might have the catalogs and the knowledge i thought i'd ask you. i'm not going to wire wheel them and was thinking of just simple green and a rag or what would you do?

All: of course if somebody else knows any information please enlighten me.

I think I have that same set except a bit more complete. The downside is it's a bit more rusted then yours

It was suggested I post a few pics of the 3/4 Blackhawk pieces I bought a week or so ago on this Blackhawk thread. From information I saw a couple pages back it listed each item of the set "14BD" and the original set contained 15 pieces plus the box, I have 12 of the pieces plus the original box. Here are a few pics of the ratchet, sliding offset, extension and a couple of the sockets. About half the sockets appear to have never been used. Each of the ratchet, extension etc has the corresponding 699XX number and the sockets have a 600XX as is described on the catalog sheet on page 12 of this thread.

I am missing the 69995 8 1/2" extension, 60032 1" socket and 60040 1 1/4" socket. I bought a 69998 3/4 Breaker bar this morning on eBay as it is the same vintage and like made handle as my ratchet.

Again, super nice set....

I'm a bit curious about the ratchet. If the ratchet is original to the set, the "circular grip" style of the handle dates the set to 1947 or later. However, in 3/4" drive I've seen this handle style on an early designed "broached tooth" head and a later designed "Bald" head.

Any pics of the ratchet selector mechanism?

Here are a couple of pics

The ratchet has the broached tooth head and is a bit of an oddity, as you don't normally expect to see an "early" broached tooth head with a "late" circular grooved style handle. Normally, one would expect to see a broached tooth head paired up with a gripline style handle (pre-1947).

By 1947 the new and improved bald head designs with circular grooved handles were offered in 3/8" and 7/16" drive sizes but apparently not in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes.

To make things a little more confusing, the 3/4" broached tooth ratchet and the bald head ratchet carried the same 699987 model no. designation...:dunno:

From what I can tell, your ratchet is correct for a 1947 through possibly a 1950 set as the 1951 catalog finally does show a bald head design offering.

Some more info on Vintage Blackhawk ratchet designs can be found here:

I think I've come across this style randomly once or twice, but I really can't help on this one. Does look like a very modern style of wrench though. Late '80s to '90s, perhaps even later....:headscrat

Auction find $13. 8 point sockets come in handy on some of the older junk.

Clipped: sounds like a nice auction if you got these tools at the same one you just picked up the block grinder you posted. i'd have paid that much for the Remline box your tools are in. i can't believe how thick the socket walls are on those Blackhawks you have.

nice find and you might post that Remline toolbox in the vintage tool box thread because i see a lot of that style, but can't say I've seen one with a Remline or other brand name on them.

the square drive pushes thru to choose the direction(loosen/tighten)

The tool box looks 1940ish. The S-4 jack is a little on the high side, but the box and the S-23 jack look like pretty decent deals. I think the Porto cart although priced cheap, would be a pass.

Those jacks are pretty nice and you guys are spoiled with low prices on the stuff back east

I just found this old black hawk jack last week and jumped at it.
I drove 100 miles to get it and it was more than twice the price of that big one

Here's a near complete set of mid to late 20's sockets.
1/2"drive, sizes are 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 19/32, 5/8, 21/32, 11/16, 3/4, 25/32, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16, 1.
The 7/8 was probably replaced but it's patina matches all the others so it'll stay with them
