Congrats! As you know, the vintage 3/8" drive stuff doesn't make an appearance very often.

Picked up this SJ 18 over the weekend, and thought I would share. Been looking for this one for a while. Overall in pretty good shape, pumps up fine, and holds overnight. Needs some cosmetic work, and an oil change and will be ready for work. Is there a fill plug for this hyd. unit, or just remove the cover to fill? Anyone know where I can find a parts list for it? Been searching all the threads, but no luck yet. Thanks.

I just picked up this Blackhawk today. Lifts but leaks. It’ll keep me busy for a bit

Just remove the cover to fill. Parts list can be found here:

I have a BlackHawk S7 which was my grandads. Built in 1949. Surprisingly it is only a 1.5 ton curb jack for being a beast of a jack that it is.

I picked up this #2 set at an auto swap on Sat. It is complete and only the T handle is a little bent. Not bad for around a hundred years old.

I wish the label was in better shape, but still pretty happy for the $5 I spent on it.

Coolest thing I have seen in awhile, Beemer. I have a Bog set in a similar leather case. Some similar early Mossberg and Walden sets came in similar cases. But this is the first Blackhawk I have seen. Congrats. That is a very special find.

This thread along with Lugnutz has inspired me to fix up my CD-32.

Here is what I started with...

And although it's not a Professional restoration, and I am far from a body man, I ended up with this....

In hindsight I would've done a brighter color on the case, but it's ok for what they are.

I might need to finish it off with a new decal inside.

I was thinking about selling my old Blackhawk set pictured. Can anybody give me an estimate on what this set is worth? I couldn't find any sets for sale on Ebay to compare it to.

I have one I picked up for i think 80$. Not restored though. Prices seem to vary up to 200 or so.

All: I don't really have time to spiff this up or the space once I do, but want to know if it's rare or just something that is old and has my eye?

OTG: thanks for the heads up. it kinda matches a top box I have so I was just seeing what you guys thought. once I have it in my hands I'll probably want to keep it, but the seller hasn't returned my emails yet.

Don: if having a box here would make you drive up I hope I find the seller and then if I can pick it up i'll have a tough call if I don't want to keep it so my bride might have to witness a coin toss.

thanks both of you for your comments!!!

OTG: thanks for that gesture and i've thrown a few things out to get Don to drive up before, but he has a WESTERN TOWN to build so I'm not sure he has time.

ALL: I know this top box isn't a perfect match, but it sorta has the same look to me and I do own this one. is it a match? I might have posted this a few years ago, but wondering if it matches the bottom roller i'm looking at?

thanks

ALL: i'm afraid I probably won't be the owner of the Blackhawk roller cause with the cheesy hasp and all work it needed added hesitation to a 2 hour drive.

thanks for the help guys and maybe another one or two will pop up and i'll know what it is.

do any of you have a good solution for keeping the tools in place inside these old smallish handcarry Blackhawk boxes. once you grab it by the handle tools go everywhere except the sockets in their small section. If anybody wants more pictures of these tools just ask. It's not that I use this as a carry box, but I know the guys did in the old days so wondering if they put in a piece of cardboard or what they might have used to keep tools somewhat in their space when they opened them up.

There is no trick with the carry cases Blackhawk called "attache style", Drives. Nice looking cases, and I never fail to point out how the rotating handle on the case itself is identical to the rotating handles they put on their speeders, etc (which is just design genius in my book...), but not really very functional in terms of the pieces not jumbling all over the place in a vertical position. Best to move them around in horizontal position.

LUG: don't get me wrong I love the old Blackhawk box and it's look, but i'd like to use the carry handle like it was meant to be used. yep I usually remember to carry it horizontal and not use the handle, but it really hasn't moved much in years.

OTG: i was thinking towel or cardboard too. as I get to welding I wonder if welding in a few clips might be a nice upgrade? I do like original, but honestly I enjoy using some of my vintage tools cause they look and feel so much better than a new tool.

speaking of that since you have more than a few tools what is your go to wrench and socket set you use?

My user stuff is snap on, little mac and matco. Old stuff is just for the sake of my tool addiction.

where did you find it?

I wish I had a great story about the find but I've spent years without finding one in the wild. I came close twice though.

I was just in the right place at the right time on the Bay. It popped up at 4am with a good price and a make offer option. I made an offer and surprisingly within minutes it was accepted.

A FedEx ride and a lot of nervousness later, and it's now safely in its new forever home.
