Lock on era 3/8" drive stuff seems fairly hard to come by...this one is dual marked with the early lock-on period tool 92XX# and then the standard 34XXX on the opposite side. No idea if that's a common occurrence, but it's new to me.

Nice extension! Also that thing to carry tools in is pretty nice as well

My fellow Blackhawksters,

For the better part of 7 years, I've chased, come within inches, and failed to land myself a Blackhawk red rover. The last one that I saw for sale out west ended up with our very own Don Long.

Today was one of those bitter defeat days where, once again, a very rare spotting of a Blackhawk red rover showed up on my radar. Just like the last 3 times before, I missed it by minutes.

Here's where I say uncle and turn to anyone here who may have a lead on one. Finding one of these boxes on the east coast is extremely difficult. I have no issue with arranging transport from anywhere in the USA.

There is a lot of interest in Blackhawk tools and toolboxes. We already have a general thread and tool box thread. Let's start Blackhawk specific thread! Caterpillar boxes welcomed! Not as pristine, but this is what I have!

Collecting Blackhawk boxes is hard. People either try to get top dollar for them or they disappear fast.

I once tried to get a toolbox similar to yours from California - those are really rare! I wish I was closer... Well, at least it found a good house - Don Long got it! (I even e-mailed a guy and was trying to convince my brother in law to drive 2-3 hours to pick it up for me. PO e-mailed me that somebody local was coming to look at it...)

Nice box! Looks pretty straight! Those don’t show up very often here in the Pacific Northwest either. We have tool mobiles coming out of our ears but no Blackhawk really.

I listed a few nugget 7/16" Blackhawk tools and my Plvmb toolmobile in the GJ classifieds, I have a Blackhawk small box with no original paint also that I haven't listed until I get some pictures.
I copied this pic from this thread, I'll remove it if it's a problem, this is the BH box I have.

I was able to contact the seller and we came to an agreement on price. This display is currently in route to the horse stable. This cabinet is missing the top sign so I'm going to have to deal with that problem.

I found mine on E-bay the same day that I bought my cabinet
Your cabinet is a smaller version with different tools inside. Mine also has 4 drawers at the base of it.

Picked up this 9809 yesterday.
-Lock On style, pre-Gripline handle, with the hollow handle for use with an extension.
-Circa 1935, as seen in archive.org catalog between the Free Wheeling rats and the stamp and rivet rats.








Picked up a 49977 last week. Also Lock-On.

My, new to me, 1930ish 2N Blackhawk merchandise display has arrived. It's in excellent original condition although as noted earlier, it is missing the Blackhawk topper sign.

I plan on preserving this via a thorough cleanup. I won't get around to that until late in the summer. For now, I figured that you folks may want to have a look at some pictures along with an old store price slip found behind the drawer.

This tool board is for sale at a local antique store. I find it interesting that it is based off peg board so you can move the hooks around. I am used to the wood Proto tool boards with fixed pegs in wood

I found an unmarked heavy duty box cutter that looks to be made to survive a nuclear blast. It looked very familiar to me and while the last thing I needed was another box cutter, 50 cents later, it followed me home.

Once I sifted through this Blackhawk (mid 50s) transition catalog, I found that I have myself a genuine Blackhawk box cutter. The only marking on it is MADE IN THE U.S.A.

I've been gathering the tools for inside the unit for a couple of months and have found one of each socket for the drawers.





This cabinet is on the list of restorations but a bit from the top.

Your topper sign is 4 inches longer than the one I need. I've resigned myself to the fact that I will have to make one so that's now on my list of things to do later this summer. In other frustrating news, none of my surgical precision methods of removing old oil paint drips has yielded success. I've tried mineral spirits, goof off, and acetone. I'm going to try white vinegar next but after that, I'm out of tricks. I may have to live with the paint drips if I don't want to damage the original paint and advertising.

I have had some success with a heat gun and plastic razor blades. I went through this recently on the flat sides of a tool mobile I shined up that had drips on the original paint. Still has some drips on the flat sides but it is better.

Well, I finally found the answer. I have a can of pure acetone here and if applied VERY carefully with Q-tips I can get rid of the paint drips. This will be meticulous work and will take hours but at least I have an avenue out of the paint drip mess. Turns out the nail polish remover that I have must be watered down pretty good. It's acetone based but not potent enough to get this job done.
