addendum:
It was only after a couple discussions that occurred subsequent to those sales above that I started grabbing screen shots of the bid history (for exactly the reason Todd mentioned above), but only on a few real oddball items where the bidding went through the roof.
As I recall, the seller of that full-blown Blackhawk "Nugget" set made his first appearance on papawswrench.com, then came here, and then listed it on ebay, so there were quite a few of us watching that one. (The photos should be here somewhere on this site.)
That it sold for what is arguably insane money defies explanation - Private Lugnutz isn't too far off the mark in his statement above.

Anomalies remain anomalies and don't necessarily indicate any sort of trend.

Like Todd, I tend to most trust the actual SOLD listings (Advanced Search, with [ ] Sold Listings box checked), even more than what is shown of an auction document immediately when it ends, but I'm not openly disputing you, either, 4.c. For the sake of argument, even if those are actual, I would consider them both to be spikes, not going rates.

For example, a Nuggets bomb box in much better condition than that rustbucket just sold last month for ~$292.

Again, last time I was really paying attention, and not as a buyer, partial Nuggets sets were going for $100 or so, empty bomb boxes in decent condition for $200 or so, and bomb boxes and more or less complete or partial sets $400-500-ish. I can see someone with deep pockets digging deep for $1,650, but I would need to see several of those before I would consider it a "reasonable" price and a going-rate vs a spike. Note that if those kinds of prices do become a going rate, I would not lament that. I am on record in several threads saying it's good, not bad, for the hobby.

I wish the eBay Advanced SOLD listings search would go back farther, or indefinite, but I can see why they don't.

^ It's for that reason I grabbed the screenshots when those items sold. Ebay purges most anything older than 90 days, if my observations are correct.

Private Lugnutz - (and Todd) - we're not in disagreement on this point. As I said: anomalies are anomalies. They are not indicative of trends.

On those two particular sales, I was watching them when they closed. I was quite intrigued by the bid histories on some of those, which is why I grabbed that screen instead of the one from the "sold" listings.

I can't say that I have seen this exact board before but the archive site has some porto power literature posted. You might find it on there. You've added another great item to the pile you have here. I recognize that little yellow and black merchandiser. ;)

My tool display cabinet is about 1/2 full and I haven't found any new tools for it in quite a while but I'm happy with what I have gathered so far

I'm having trouble finding the rest of the tools that belong in my merchandiser cabinet as well. The sockets used to be plentiful but like most things that I like, they have seemingly evaporated. I'm hoping for a great flea market season in the spring.

I think certain areas of the country went dry this year - may be because less real estate is being sold?
Blackhawk is especially hard our days - I have 1 roller and 2 chests and they are all out of state. The only one I know in state is overpriced.
CA had a nice one for $100 recently (same as your first picture, Don) - the person did not respond to me and it was gone in a week...

I suspect a lot of people do not know much about Blackhawk and a lot of tools and boxes were trashed...

I picked up the speeder on the right yesterday, guessing it was made by Snap-on. (I was thinking back on Snapmom's Wonderful Wall of Speeders. That's the only place I've seen them with this much swing). The Mossberg speeder is there to give a sense of scale.

The part number appears to read 1-0611-N. The speeders in the late twenties catalogs were three digits, like 610 and in the mid thirties there were four digits, like 9611. I didn't see any hyphenated numbers, but did see some tools with an N at the end. The patent number on top of the knob is what clued me into the maker.

The shaft is 9/16" stock. It's hefty. I was hoping to find it in a catalog, but no such luck. One of the things that had me thinking Snap-On was the knurled grip, since I associate Blackhawk with the Gripline handles. There's even a quote in the 1937 catalog, saying "why blister your hands on old fashioned hard-to-clean knurled grips?" and goes on to extoll the benefits of Gripline handles. So, I take that to mean this one is earlier than 1937.

I'm pretty sure it's just plain steel with a cad-plated knob on top. I don't see Blackhawk stamped anywhere on it, but I assume they were the only ones using the patented handle. Is that true?

I did see some knurled handles in the catalogs and noticed the Lock-on pin, but was still paranoid about posting it in the wrong thread. Thank you for the reassurance.

Uh oh. It looks like Snap-on may have used the same knobs, based on images in the Snap-on thread.

Thanks guys. I'm afraid I goofed and should have done the "speeder" search in the Snap-on thread as well. It looks a LOT like the one in the upper left of the photo above. So, Blackhawk and Snap-on both used the patented knobs and locking pins. Live and learn.

edit - Maybe the 1 before the part number is the letter I, for Industrial and what I thought was a letter N (partially stamped) is actually a sideways # 7 date code. (?)

I have one that has been sitting around while waiting for me to restore it. Probibly wont get around to it . Are you still looking?
