I found this vise a few months back and cleaned it up some. I'm not familiar with the brand and was wondering if anyone could educate me on it? Only thing I know for sure is that it is heavy.

That is a beautiful vice. That's an FPU from Poland. The design is German, after a Boley and/or a Leinen.

I realize this is not an anvil forum, but I just can't help myself.

Kevin, this is for you, V.A. and bagged. The 4th one is 990 lbs.

Don't listen to them :eyecrazy:... Buy all you can [emoji14]impflash... Make one for your truck to mount in you receiver . You have a post vise yet? :dunno:6" ? 7" ? then you don't have enough. [emoji106]
No worries. I will be buying all the quality vises (and tools) I can get my hands on.

No truck yet, I do have a post vise but its in my shop at my moms place, will bring it down here eventually. ;)

I finally figured out what to do with old 18 wheeler brake drums...they make very good stands for grinders, vises etc.

I liked them so much, I gave $1,200 apiece for them.... Just kidding!

I was really pleased to get them though.[emoji14]
Yeah, those are REALLY nice! Super jealous, wanted one for my Prentiss 98 but the seller wasn't budging on price, at least at the time :( Nice pickup for sure [emoji106] What lucky vises will be perched on them???

We've got 37 trucks and do our own brake work so I'm usually bringing them by the truck load to the scrapyard. So yeah, most truck repair places should be able to fix you up.

They're going to Fort Worth. I've got an 8" Parker swivel, and a Reed 108 swivel there I think would look dandy on those stands.

I'm going to have to visit the bus garage at my work. I'm sure I can find one.

The news outlets tell everyone to lift with your legs. It's all a sham. The key is to put it all in your groin and your back, take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking, twisting motion.

I grabbed this old stainless stand from the barn, old display stand for something, weighs about 120lbs. Mounted this 8" Westward mechanics vise to it for a friend who needs one at home that is portable. Also, how many vises are currently in the machine shop with me?

I'm thinking that Prentiss 98 would look great. What will you take for it?

Man! Thanks for the advice. It's great to know I been doing it right all this time. My chiropractor loves me.

You had me rolling on the floor laughing!!! Nice shop!

Uhm, I'm seeing seven, but I'm sure that's not right

Close enough. There's 8.

4 Record No.6, found 2 under a welders bench, he said rebuild and send them off to someone else in the shop to be put to use.
RIGID 6" swivel mechanics vise, bought for our pipefitters when the 8" Ridge tool co. 81P broke (wish I had the Vise bug back then, I would have swiped it.. It was scrapped.. Screw shattered), was too light so they got a Gray tools 8" instead. Still a POS.
Record 634, being guarded by the Kobe Bryant shop rag.
Westward 8" mechanics vise, for a buddy.
7-1/4" blacksmith vise for a buddys house warming gift.

Finished up with my 624 Athol today. I found this a few weeks ago in a Pawn Shop of all places. For 25$ it had to go home with me. It is in very good shape for its age. Any thoughts on a fair CL price for it?

Great job on that vise. It's an Athol by the way, not a Yost. CL prices are regional, it's hard to say.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I used Cwazy Wabbit's method using the press at my workplace. I found a press ring big enough span the handle across and pressed the center of the bends. A couple hammer smacks on an anvil fine tuned it enough for the girls I go out with so I'm happy.

The vice and handle look good, :) and may I just say that you have excellent taste in colour. :D

Yep, although it's still sitting in the back of the Land Rover dismantled into 20+ pieces so I could carry it out of the basement of the shop.

It's very heavy, they don't make display stands like that anymore. There is no pressed steel in it, all the shelves and signs are cast iron.

In fact I'd say it's weight is what saved it, I reckon it got put away in the cellar of the shop many years ago when it was a hardware shop. Even though the shop has changed hands numerous times and the cellar has been emptied out nobody could be bothered with the effort of moving the stand :) I see no other reason for their to be a vise display stand in the basement of a coffee shop!
