@jbrentd Yes it is on the K trail, even though I'd been to that area before I'd never actually made it to K trail, it really is a fascinating area with some great views.

Do you know if the road entering the west end of the K trail was open from hwy 271 (just south of Clayton)? I've got some land I need to check on that is right off the K trail, about 2 miles from hwy 271. Sorry to get off topic.

No worries whatsoever, there have been far too few topics in my thread lately. Sadly I do not know, we entered from the east side at Three Sticks Monument. Also a note, while looking at the map the name of that watch tower we were at is called Kiamichi Lookout Tower.

I won some stuff at an auction last week and headed over to pick it up taking Lever Action to get the haul, I won a tire balancer (no photos), I already have one, but was about half price so I'll just clean it a bit and sell it, I won this hay spike for also about half price:
Hay Spike.jpg

I already have one that is already set up on my tractor so will also just flip this one. The last flip item is this 5' rotary mower:
5' Rotary Mower.jpg

Listed as "needs work" which all I could find was some work on the deck adding a bit of weld, replace one U-joint and that is about it. This was the big win, I paid a whopping $10.50 for it, for that price I was willing to take a gamble, but it works okay. The last win is this Badland 12,000 lb winch with hitch plate I got for about 20% off of the winch and the plate for free:
3.jpg

Sadly on the drive I noticed my truck was trying to rev up while the cruise control was set, that is not ideal in a manual transmission. Looks like I'll be pulling the trans out at some point to look over the clutch.

Saturday morning I set my sites on a goal I'd never achieved before, taking 50,000 steps in a day as part of a challenge I have with my brother and a friend. I started off by running 6.2 miles (10k) then walked 4 more 5k's (3.1 miles) then unloaded the haul from the auction, jump starting my grandpa's red truck that then got used to jump start the tractor that I'd accidently left the key on, then just a few trips around the yard for fun. I was beat by the end of the day when all was said and done.
50k Steps.png

Sunday I planned to replace the front struts on the Ag Surfer, and the rear shocks and springs, the fronts were going to be more difficult so I started there, old vs new:
10.jpg

The reason for the change was because the car had been lowered and was just a bit too low for me so I was going to raise it back up with stock parts. After finishing the front I moved to the back only to find out the previous owner had a "bucket" to fit into the larger opening of the aftermarket spring. This meant the stock spring wouldn't fit. :( I punted, installed the new rear shocks then put the lowered struts back on the front. I was upset so didn't take any other photos though.

Later I helped a friend that put a GM 8.1L into his 60's GMC dump truck turn the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) off and got it running, cool project, but also no photos of that one.

Remind me never to make you angry……

I like taking photos.

Excellent work on all the flip treasures.

And that mower deck will be a godsend for someone.

PS: sorry you had some hassle when trying to get stuff done, that always *****.

@Grizz1963, I presume you are referring to the hay spike?

I was pretty pumped to win the items I did win, way better deal than buying elsewhere and now I can sell and make a few hundred dollars for little effort.

If I never ran into issues working on cars there would be no adventure, and that would just be boring.

We had some pretty nasty weather roll in Sunday night with warnings coming through our phones all night, luckily or unluckily I slept through all of it so no loss of sleep for me. However, Monday when I left for work I wasn't able to see how much damage we'd sustained as my flashlight battery had died and my phone light is more of a joke than anything. Monday when I arrived home I found the damage, lost most of a tree in the front yard, luckily it was a small one:
2.jpg

Poor thing only has one small part left on it alive, trimmed up and limbs moved to the burn pile. Right after that an auction was ending online I'd been following for a while, picked up a few firearms, extended magazines, and a new Pelican Vault, all for 25 to 50% off of retail, no photos of those though. :)

Coming home from picking them up on Tuesday the radio shut off in The Lemon, quickly realized the alternator had died and I was still 12 miles from home. Turned all electronics off and crossed my fingers keeping an eye on gauges, luckily I made it home but just barely. Charged it up and pulled into the shop for an alternator swap, sadly the spare I thought I'd kept is MIA so looks like I'll but getting a new one Friday when I'm off work. Speaking of which I'm really enjoying this 9/80 schedule, it just stinks I'm working more like 11-12 hours instead of the 9 but getting every other Friday off is great.

I had an alternator go out on my 4Runner once. Was on the turnpike and still about 50 miles from home. Was a stressful drive, trying to get home before dusk so I didn't have to turn on the lights, which would have surely drained the battery.

Our company did away with the 9/80 schedule a couple years ago. They tried to make it sound like working from home a couple days a week was an even trade off.

It's amazing how the firearms reproduce when you get the bug, haha!
Well I had to do some kind of a tradeoff, there were getting to be so many cars and trucks here I'd spend an hour moving them to mow, or trying to move them. I try to be careful not to get too many, but I don't think it is working, I just can't pass up a good deal. I may be selling my Glock 22, it is the only .40 I have and they just aren't as common as I thought they would be 15 years ago when I picked it up, I'll likely replace it with a 19. One of the auctions I won was a Glock drum but it didn't fit my other win, oops, happy little accident I suppose.

I did have one other die on me during a gambler, but had a group with me that kept stopping and letting me jump charge until we could make it back to camp.

I technically have the option to work from home one day during my 5 day work week, but in reality I don't see how that would work for my role.

About 5 years ago, I went to a swap meet 130 miles away. Leave the swap meet at 7 pm and go for supper before driving home. Come out after supper to go home and the check gauges light is on. See the voltmeter is reading low with the engine running. Get out and check the belt. It is good so we start home. Made it about 85 miles when all of a sudden, the alternator is putting out 18 volts. Turn everything electrical on and make it another 10 miles to a town with a restaurant. Call CAA for a tow home. Wait over an hour for the tow truck. Get home about midnight and decide the truck can wait until daylight to diagnose anything. Gou out the next morning and check the alt out. Still charging at 18 volts. Alt is a newer style that you can't find a regulator to buy to install and I don't have a spare. $165.00 later and 20 minutes to install everything is good. No problems since.

I have sadly been there a few times, in the end this one wasn't as simple which I'll get into later. Luckily I still had the lifetime warranty on this alternator so was able to get it swapped out Friday and installed that afternoon, then things got more complicated.

Well it has been an entertaining few days, get a call from my wife that I needed to do some eradication in our mud room, this is what greeted me when I made it home:
3.jpg

He was a bit scared but got him outside unharmed, not sure how he got in but suspect it was either through the garage or front door, we leave them open on occasion depending on weather or if I'm working in and around the garage.

As mentioned in my previous post I replaced the alternator on The Lemon:
3.jpg

Easy enough, but had forgotten to throw the battery charger on it so it didn't want to start, tried jump starting with no success, I was leaving town so just put a Battery Tender on and took off. I tried to start it Sunday morning before another little trip and it was slow cranking, suspected a bad cell caused by draining it too deep so swapped in another battery from another car and it was still slow cranking. I'll throw in a spare starter this week and see if that is the cause, otherwise I'll have to dig deeper into it.

Saturday I'd volunteered to help out a mini bike race called the Lime 100, the course was about 1.3 miles (2km) long, 100 minutes in duration and 3 total classes. So for 6 hours I worked a corner radioing back if trouble or riders that may need a bit of help. This gentlemen had some tough luck, way out in first place and his bike started running sluggish, the belt on his torque converter had worn and rolled upside down:
5.jpg

He was able to repair it back at the pits but a few laps later the forks broke loose from the head tube, ratchet strapped it back together and slowly finished the race. Another guy had an engine failure a few feet in front of me:
4.jpg

I was able to find the parts he lost and return them to him after the race:
3.jpg

Tough to tell, but that is part of a rod bearing, tough day for sure.

Sunday I went to Hallett raceway in Jennings, Ok. I took the Viper down to get some seat time and was hoping to run a couple parade laps, a couple other Oklahoma Vipers were in group 5 and looked like they had a blast:
100.jpg

I think I found my favorite personalized plate:
1.jpg

Sadly I ran out of time before my group so no track time for me. After getting home I met up with fellow GJ member @InsaneEd, he heard about the spare tire balancer I had and wanted first shot at it, picked it up and had a good chat:
1.jpg

That is all for now, it was a very fun weekend, capped it off by taking a walk with the girls and then doing math homework with oldest daughter.

I am curious, how does one go about getting (what appears to be) an Opossum out of your house? Did you live trap or just put on a thick set of gloves and go for it?

Before I've just grabbed them by the tail and gotten rid of them that way, this one was about 4' from the back door so I just used a broom to push it out. Our house is 95 years old this year and I suspect I'm not the first person to push a opossum out with a broom. :ROFLMAO:

You have a point there, it didn't even cross my mind, I've eaten opossum before and it isn't high on my "try again" list, of course that was 25 years ago so maybe my taste buds have matured since then. :cautious:

Also did you notice the stuffed animal opossum my daughters conveniently left in there to greet their new friend? I actually saw the toy before the real one and was upset I left work just for that, but didn't really think they would mess with me that bad.

I went the stab with convenient pitchfork route in a similar opossum situation.

It did not end well for everyone involved. I managed to A- not kill it, but B- wound it sufficiently for blood trails everywhere as it ran around in agony

JB, it was great to meet you and chat. Thanks for the equipment addition to my shop, I just got it unloaded and in place.

JB was kind enough to show me and my boy around his shop and look at some of his projects. He even showed the boy his Cobra and let the kiddo sit in it wearing JBs shades.

The boy told me that it was the best day ever after we left.

I love it when the kiddos get those.

Thanks again,

I do have a pitchfork, but don't keep one in the house haha. Depending on the animal I try not to kill it if possible especially in the house, too much clean up. :) Except for mice and rats, they can all die!
That's awesome!
Great movie.
Of all the vehicles to see it on a McLaren has to be the best, I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner but already think I'd like his sense of humor.

It was great to meet you and the family, he certainly seemed to enjoy the cars I have laying around, pretty high praise when a child says that, maybe next time we can take it for a spin. :) Glad the balancer is going to a good home where it'll get some use.

Yeah, I wouldn't go that route. I read somewhere that Opossum actually eat a large number of ticks and other bugs. So I don't mind them around...outside obviously!

I have heard the same and even used the argument but have recently found out that at least one study has found that not to me the case, they do eat some, but they are not a large part of the opossum's diet. Either way I'll let them live and enjoy knowing they help keep nature in balance...outside my house.

Small little update on The Lemon, as mentioned before I was driving home about 3 weeks ago and the alternator went out, I was barely able to make it home but did. I picked up a warranty alternator and put it in only to find the car was cranking over really slow but all voltages to the starter were consistent. I'd suspected it was the starter causing this, easy fix as I had a good used spare laying around, but was beginning to work an outage just as that happened at work and no extra time for the car.

Fast forward to last night and I completed the starter swap, tried to start and same story, kept troubleshooting and discovered the engine would turn over by hand easy enough but the belt wouldn't turn. Traced that down to the recently replaced alternator that wouldn't even begin to turn over, WTH. I started to remove it when I discovered it turned just fine once the mounting bolts were loosened. I'm not entirely sure I didn't drop a spacer when removing it before but either way I'm swapping it out for another today and will go from there. I really want to get that car back on the road so I can get to my 1/4 million mile goal and send it to its next home.

It has been a busy and productive few weeks, spring is here and with it comes maintenance and storms, sadly we have only been getting the wind and not the rain. I'm getting closer do being "done" with the tree clearing I have planned for the place and about to the maintain phase, one of the last locations was here:
9.jpg

That is about 1/2 way into this tree group, before I quite I completely had this one burned up and trimmed a lot of limbs in this area as well, now I can get the truck and tractor through without getting shredded by thorns. I did an oil change on the JD 3020 which included a filter change, I hate to admit it, but this is my first one on this tractor and it was due:
4.jpg

As mentioned before we've had some pretty strong winds, sadly this tree I wanted to keep, but it wasn't having any of it and landed on the fence, luckily it didn't brake the fence but it did need re-tensioned:
8.jpg

I used the loader to pick it up and push it over the fence after trimming a few limbs, then pushed it over to the big pile for burning when the weather cooperates.

Spring also means calving season, I've been keeping a close eye on them as they were getting really close and Friday I found this little red heifer, expecting to see its red mama only to discover it's mama was the black cow:
6.jpg
I was actually looking for the other red cow when I found that calf so I kept wandering around, eventually finding this little girl:
7.jpg

She was only a couple hours old at this point and was still having some trouble walking but stuck with me for about 10 minutes looking for mama. I still have one that should calf out any day now so I'm trying to keep an eye out every chance I get to make sure she does okay. While walking around I also took a photo of Jackie, the first cow I purchased, her horns are really coming in:
10.jpg

There was a local Cars and Coffee in Ponca City so I opted to take the Viper as it was a little chilly in the morning for the cobra to make the 35 mile drive, I borrowed these photos from others as I didn't take any of my own:
7.jpg

8.jpg

I'm working toward spraying the pasture so got some bad valves changed out on my spray rig and it is all ready when the time comes.

JB, we've been experiencing the same here in our corner of KS. Lots of wind and very little moisture. Meanwhile, the Dakotas keep getting snow...

Those horns 😍
Being a longhorn (and some of her genetics) she will never fill out body wise, but her horns are gorgeous, she gets to stick around for that reason if nothing else. Her calf is the white one in the first photo of the cattle and is just starting to grow his horns.
That little one takes good selfies. Hope you guys get some rain soon.
She was really sweet at first and walked right with me, later that afternoon she acted like I was a coyote and won't come to me at all, feeding them will help that though. We really need some rain, the pond is very low, the grass is just starting to green up some though and this is when we normally get rain, so fingers crossed.

If only we could get some of that moisture they have been hogging in California. The last few storms that went through this area missed my place almost completely. At least it is warming up, we are supposed to hit 90°F today, I'm loving it.

Easter weekend was a good time around here, picked up a new toy that'll get some exercise this coming deer season after getting a few rounds through it this weekend hopefully:
3.jpg

It also came with quite a few old surplus rounds:
5.jpg

There is also a 50 cal ammo can ~2/3 full of loose rounds, ~700 total, too good of a deal to pass up. While on that trip I also attended a Ok/Texas/Kansas Viper Club of America event to meet some of the other Viper owners in the area and see their cars. Sadly no photos of the cars or hauling all of this back in my car, that was entertaining to say the least.

I worked on the Ion Redline exhaust as well, when I bought it the previous owner installed a 3" exhaust from the turbo back but thought it was too quiet with a muffler so he removed it and put on a piece of straight pipe using U bolts. I didn't notice how janky that install was until it was too late and it had fallen off. Now too loud for me to be comfortable with I wanted to get it ready for a new muffler once I made up my mind. I welded on a V-band and all the extra 3" SS pipe I had laying around. I rushed a little as I was running really low on argon, but just made it:
11.jpg

Old connection also pictured, kinda sucked to do this on the ground since the lift still has the RX-7 on it I'm ignoring...oops.

Also I learned about a promotion Chevrolet has going called Chevy Truck Legends, basically you submit a Chevy truck you have with VIN and automatically get accepted, 4 months later this showed up:
4.jpg

Inside the box were milestone stickers for the farm truck Lever Action:
5.jpg

As well as a sticker you can put the number of Chevy trucks you've owned:
6.jpg

I had to review my spreadsheet and realized I've owned 16 since 2012. :)

Spring being here I needed to spray the yard and pasture as mentioned before, I replaced the actuated valve for the spray rig, here is a photo of it:
11.jpg

Loaded up and ready for the first round:
12.jpg

Also we finely got our first spring rain or should I say small storm, we ended up with about 7/10 of rain but sadly it came with a little hail:
1.jpg

I had no idea hail was possible or I'd have moved vehicles into the shop, luckily it was all pretty small and they suffered no damage.

Lastly the last heifer had her calf Saturday:
13.jpg

It is really tough to tell them apart, they all 3 have nearly identical markings. That's all for now, ya'll have a great day.

I'll have to look into that Chevy Truck Legends program JB. I haven't heard of that but I'll have to check into the criteria. That may be something that my son would like to receive in the mail for his truck.

@zmotorsports, I think it would be really cool for you to just sign him up for it, it is a pretty neat program GM puts on to show appreciation for their customers. They have the 100k mile stickers at least up to 1,000,000 miles that I've seen posted, I don't think I'll ever get there, but have had plenty of 300,000 miles trucks even though I've only ever taken one over that milestone.
New boom sticks are always fun!

That Chevy Truck Legends program is cool.
@OutlawDrifter I've seemed to become a little more attracted to them lately, or should I say they've seemed to be attracted to me lately. Of all the ones I've picked up the past year I only actually went shopping for 1 of them, the rest just cross my path and I adopt them into a loving home. If you aren't a member I'd suggest you check it out.

Another busy and productive weekend, I caught the three calves resting while I was spraying the pasture:
16.jpg

Later in the weekend we got all 3 of them in the sorting pen while the adults were eating and I learned something interesting. Turns out I don't have 2 heifers and a bull, they were all 3 bull calves, they also all three are now banded and will be steers soon. I guess I didn't get as good of a look at them as I thought, oh well, they will all sell this way. Also I spent most of Friday spraying, it wasn't a good day to spray, but the best I had available so I went for it:

I also spent some time cleaning a few small trees from fence rows, better now than when they get bigger and are more of a pain to deal with:

Lastly I spent quite a bit of time cleaning The Lemon, it should roll over 250,000 miles today so I got some cleanish shots of it in anticipation for listing it for sale soon:

You've got that tractor spraying in a nice straight line!
I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked out, without any real lines to go off of I would just make the turn, pick a spot on the fence line and keep the tractor pointed that way. About 1/2 way into it I thought I should have tracked myself with GPS just to see how it looked, probably a good thing I didn't. haha
Damn! That Lemon actually looks like something I would dri…….never mind, it’s looking good all cleaned up😉👍
It certianly looks good in the photos, but is much rougher in person, rusty rockers, a few dents/dings, clear coat peeling, and AC doesn't work this year. But it has averaged 36.2 mpg this year with a lifetime average of 33.53 mpg so I can put up with some silly things to save a little money. Also I've owned a ZX2 for over 20 years now and an S/R for 19, oh well time to move on to other stuff, it was fun though.
