Well the long wait is over finely, I made the trip down to Texas to pick up the engine, all around it was about a 1,000 mile trip. I stayed the night at a friends house in Fort Worth then made the 3.5 hour trip to Nacogdoches, Tx to arrive at the Mast shop at 8 am. I made it a little early and decided to go for a run and have some breakfast, while eating I see someone else has installed a Godzilla into a cobra:
It looks good in there, hopefully mine will soon as well. Here is my engine in their shop:
I'm not used to working on something so clean, it'll be interesting to see how long that lasts. Took a tour, got a couple shirts and made the 650 mile (1,040 km) trip home, the lift points were too high for my cherry picker so I used the next best thing...a tractor to unload it:
Easy and didn't even break a sweat. Unpacked it and man does it look nice and feels great to have it home finely:
First up a size comparison with it and the 351w:
It is noticably bigger, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't that much bigger in overall size, just a bit bigger everywhere. Well now it is time to see if I can get it to fit:
Sure enough if fits right in...just barely but it does fit, height may still be an issue, but I have some time to figure that out a bit later, for now though I'm stoked to be this far. I wanted to get an idea on alternator placement and what one to use, I had this one from an LS based truck engine and some hardware so tired it out:
I think I can make this work, and I have one with the harness so should be easy enough to integrate with the rest of the wiring. Next up for me was to try the bell housing so I can get the trans mounted and ready for motor mount fabrication, test fit and checked runout using a magnetic base and a dial indicator:
This revealed I was .007" (.178mm) low. To fix this I ordered some offset dowel pins, to get the bellhousing centered will take a lot of trial and error but I have a starting point now. Next up I wanted to make some motor mount plates, some cardboard and a hammer and they fit like a glove:
Last up for now I'll show the dyno graph for my engine:
In other news here is a video of my engine and some of the stuff done to it as Mast displayed it at the Holley Ford Intergalactic Fest:
