Surely you can enter the rest of the USA without a Passport……

Or is there something you never told me? 😉
You sure can, but I will need to get out of the states in a hurry at some point in the future and want to have the passport handy.
JB is a special case. He has to get a visa at every state line.:ROFLMAO:
You weren't far off, at one time I may have had to get written approval to travel across state lines, but that is a story for another day.

Well I'm back as mentioned before and have a few things to share, I didn't take a ton of photos while working on stuff but mostly did a lot of cleaning up in the shop. First I'd like to share a few photos of the 3 new heifers I picked up last week, on the far left and far right are the two bread heifers, left is Earl, right is Danni. In the pond with the bull is the un-bread heifer Oreo, Jackie the longhorn is also in the pond and her calf Cocoa is peaking out of the grass near the left side:
Cattle.jpg

Before I was able to pick up the new cattle I had some scrap metal I wanted to get rid of, I also wanted to get some picked up from a friends house. At the bottom of a pile of tin I found these little guys and nearly crapped myself after seeing they were there:
Skunks.jpg

6 in total with the one that was way more white than black in the middle of the photo above. Mamma came back later after I left and relocated them, I really wanted to make one a pet but wasn't able to make it happen in time. After dropping off the scrap metal I picked up a new lathe:
Lathe 1.jpg

It is a South Bend 9" (230mm) by 54" (1.37M), it came with 3 and 4 jaw chucks with ID and OD jaws, some collets, and some tooling, so after about 6 years of looking I was finely able to get one at a good price local which included the table and the small vise.

Next project on the to do list was a flag pole, my friend Alex has had 3 flag poles at his house and all have been destroyed by wind at one time or another so we decided to make one a little more stout and to make it serviceable. I came up with an idea to give it a pivoting flange at the bottom, started off with 1/4" (6.35mm) plate, with three bolt holes and the center cut out like this:
Base 1.jpg

I then welded a piece of pipe on the flat side cut in 3 pieces to make the hinge, a 5/8" (15.875mm) bolt makes it complete. A little prep work and some welding and it was installed, here you can see the completed hinge plates:
Base 2.jpg

I'm obviously wearing the approved safety gear and no the grinder on the ground wasn't plugged in. :) Well here is the completed project:
Finished Flag Pole.jpg

A little over 25' tall with 5' of pipe driven in the ground. If the underground pipe struggles with the wind at the soil to air interface we decided we will dig it out some and add some concrete, but all good for now.

I did stay plenty busy but not a ton to show so I'll just skip those parts, ya'll have a good one.

My dad's best friend had a skunk that was "de-scented" for a pet. It was funny seeing unknowing peoples' reactions to the little dude just wandering out.

Pole position.

Just like that.

A pity about the little skunks……. They are cute.
I'm pretty happy about the flag pole, time will tell how well it handles the winds we get though I do have some hope. They sure were, and didn't really stink much, I really thought the mostly white one was, that would have been my pick.

I would have enjoyed having one as a pet, I hear they make great pets once de-scented.

my dog got sprayed last week. OH what a stink she was. Vinegar, baking soda and Dawn dish soap with some hydrogen peroxide. Took a couple of douches to get the stink out.

Herb,
When I first read that I read it as she got spayed which made me wonder why that would make her stink, then reread it the right way. :ROFLMAO: Glad to hear she is smelling better now, that is no fun to deal with for certain.

I'm still around keeping busy but not really much to show, mostly because I'm not taking many photos. I'd finely ordered the new grill for my truck to replace the pheasant modified grill from before:
IMG_3783.JPG

Ne one installed and kept the original gold bowtie rather than the black one from the other grill:IMG_3783.5.JPG
It was raining when I took this photo and really needed to pull the truck out and give it a good cleaning, I feel bad it spends its life outside as it is so pretty when all cleaned up.

Next up I kept working on the old dump/rock pile/foundation/overgrown tree area, ripper on the tractor and digging into it one piece at a time and it is getting there, but once again no photos, I'll try to get one tonight.

Lastly I was offered a chance to get a pretty cool car that would need a lot of work, 1969 Superbee:
1.jpg

It does still have the two stickers on the quarters, but as you can see it needs a LOT of work, photo of it loaded on the trailer:
3.jpg

Lastly a photo when I got it home from 3 miles away:
2.jpg

Quick rundown of the car, it is missing all of the front and rear trim and bumpers, floor is either gone or rusted very bad, it has about 3" (75mm) of rat poop in the floor that does remain, and a huge rat/squirrel nest in it also, no engine, no trans, rear brakes are missing, and the only glass is the windshield that has a few what looks like small bullet holes in it. The reason I got the car was that it had a title and it was a grand total of $0 or $5 if you want to count my gas. :)

And just like that, you are at START again.

It’s a nice score though.
I'm sure you know by now I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, and I'm a glutton for punishment.
Those MOPAR guys spend silly money on stuff :wtf:

But then again...all makes have their fan boys I guess! :bounce:
Well I may have to see what it'll bring on the open market, it sure needs a lot of work though, it is NASTY right now.
Nice score on the Super Bee.
Thank you, it was too good to pass up, I need to throw some wheels on it that'll hold air and get it pulled around after cleaning it out some, did I mention it is NASTY.

that is one of my favorite cars, even though I am a Ford guy. I like the "not see through" version though. good luck with it, if it has good numbers someone will want it.

@LutzTD I'll get it cleaned up some tonight and see where I'm at with it, but don't think I'll have much to work with, it'll likely sit for a little while longer before I do much of anything on it. The RX-7 is next with the Jeep following close behind and I need to do a lot of work on both pretty soon. I'd hate to butcher it like I have planned, but if no one wants to buy it I'll just have to butcher it I guess.

Uncle Willie, I think you have me mistaken for someone with more money to burn. I'm thinking either 4cyl front wheel drive or maybe even EV swap from a Nissan Leaf. :)

Speaking of getting sick, I cleaned out the interior yesterday after work 🤮 is right. 13.jpg

Good news is there was a decent amount of trim in the floor...covered in rat poop. On the passenger side:
14.jpg

I did find a couple of squirrel skulls in there, but did get it all cleaned out and feel better now but still yuck. Now to see a few more things, like the trunk floor:
11.jpg

And some of the rust issues that this thing has:
12.jpg

I'm honestly surprised it isn't in a pile on the ground, there is so little metal left it is unreal.

So I haven't said much for a few days but I have been working diligently like a little beaver.

First this followed me home from my parents house:
attachment.php

This was also my grandfathers, about all I know is he had it for years before he gave it to my father. I'd forgotten about it until I saw one similar on the "My Little Aussie Shed" thread I believe. That made me want to ask my father if I could borrow it for a while and do a restoration on it. I don't know how deep I'll go into getting it ready to rumble again but should be a good time killer.

This is the ID tag on the press portion: (Note that there is no serial number on the tag.)
attachment.php

The drill is an old Sioux 1/2" drive drill. I haven't had time to do much digging but know the press was made to attach to drills around this vintage so you could just have one drill and use it as a press as well.

I'm taking tomorrow off of work so I can work on some lighting.
I have this:
II like the B&D. When I started off in construction (1974), the Drill Stands were known as "Old Mans". Presumably because only Old Men were unable to use the drill like a manly man.

But.

We have all seen these things get resurrected by brave individuals or teams.

Well done on the cleanup.
It is much better now, still no photos to share, but needs a bit more to be remotely considered clean.
In fact according to the TV shows it will all be done in a week :ROFLMAO:
:ROFLMAO:
I would be better off buying a restored one rather than trying to make this one a show car, it would also be less work, I do think I could have one bought and driving in under a week for certain.
that's patina
I actually really like the patina of the painted areas of the car, now the rusted areas...not as big of a fan.
JB, just wipe it down with some transmission fluid. Unless you were planning to buff it out.
I did consider buffing the paint a bit and spraying a few coats of clear on it just to keep the patina it currently has, but that won't be anytime soon.

I still have that drill press, the stand it restored and looks great, I had the drill pulled apart and started to polish it a bit, sadly the motor shop that helped to disassemble it is no longer in business so I'll have to figure out rebuilding it on my own if I ever get back to it...

In other news I looked up the cowl tag and found out the care was a 383 4 speed car, with a few neat options, it really wouldn't be worth that much from what I've found, but you never know. Before I butcher it I may put it up for sale and see what happens.

Man that is a job for a young man or someone with money just burning holes in their pocket. I see the allure but I for sure we have had to pass that up. Even if it was a 70' Chevelle 454SS.

I would have taken it too, everything is available to build that car from the ground up, except VIN and title. Someone will want it even if to put the tags on a future dynacorn shell

Really scary easy to get a title in Kansas. Just get a friend write up a bill of sale. The Highway Patrol comes out and verifies the VIN, fills out his form for title, and BAM, you have a title.

I about crapped myself when i saw the skunks. Wow. You are a brave man. One of my fondest memories as a kid was going to a local tire store, and there was a 66 Plymouth Satellite HEMI there. I'd never seen one, and was asking lots of questions. We left just before that guy did, he was behind us on the road home. Then suddenly, there was a loud roar, and he was in front of us, like a blur. I was always impressed by those things. It's too bad the sheet metal on vintage mopars is so bad.

Unlikely to get a Hemi, it is likely to be pasture art for a while for me, I have other things I need to finish first. Obviously I didn't make it up, it was so darn hot, by the time I tapped out in the afternoons I wanted nothing to do with getting outside of the house. The 4th was safe and enjoyable.
There is a lot of work to be done!
Likely more work than I will ever do, I do have ideas, but none of them are good ideas.

I don't think I'll ever make this one look new or even mechanically sound, time will tell what it does though.
Even if it had a pair of LS6 heads in the trunk?
LS6 heads, I'd take a pair of those if you were tossing them out. :)

The good news is I have the VIN and a title, I'll get it black tagged (registered with the state but not as a driver, so I don't have to keep insurance on it) today and should have a title in my name by the end of the week.

I didn't realize it was that easy in Kansas, Oklahoma is quite a bit tougher but still doable but usually takes about 3 months, I pretty much don't deal with vehicles without titles anymore, just too much work and risk. If the last registered owner was in Oklahoma and they want to reclaim the car all they have to do is say so and legally I'd have to give it back to them. I'm glad I have a title for this one though.

Luckily the skunks weren't that bad smelling, but it did startle me quite a bit for certain. I sure would have loved to be around for some of those days, I don't have many stories of fast cars from when I was younger, but am making up for lost time now. :)

All,
I'm back and catching up at work, I'll try to get a writeup together in the next few days.

I'm still around and still getting some stuff done albeit a little slower now due to the heat we are facing, more on that later. One of the little jobs I decided to knock out was upgrading the can crusher air lines, here is was it was like early on with just a temp hose running to it:
IMG_1773.JPG

The push button had started to leak a bit and the clear air lines had seen better days so I opted to upgrade both while I was at it, here is where I am now:
1.jpeg

The last revision I need to make is to rebuild the cage, but was running out of time so left it like this for now. One of the biggest projects I've been working on for a few years on and off was this area behind the shop that was way overgrown and tons of concrete chunks, scrap metal burried and way more work than I ever thought it would have been, here it is after starting on it a while back:IMG_0837.1.JPG

Here was last year when Cat helped be burn it more:
IMG_3421.JPG

Most of the stumps were pretty well burned to the ground after a few rounds, a couple weeks ago I put the ripper on the tractor and started to pull out the remaining pieces of the stumps, one was just too much and I had to hand dig and cut quite a few of the roots before the tractor could pull it out, that was a huge amount of work, but I finely got it. It is hard to tell in the photo but that hole is about 2.5' (.8m) deep:
Image (1).jpeg

I pulled a lot of pieces of metal out including about 8 gallons for rusted wire, 4 full bucket loads of rock/concrete, and a few misc. other things. I still have one stump remaining, but just couldn't bring myself to fight it right now, maybe when it cools down this fall. I then traded the ripper out for the mower and mowed the pasture and trimmed around most of the fences avoiding the areas with poison ivy.

I have worked on the RX7 some between other jobs, I needed to get the engine on the engine stand so I could try to figure out how it went back together, before I could do that I needed to remove the flywheel, that is when I ran across the mounting nut and I didn't have a socket big enough for it so ordered one:
Image (2).jpeg

Yep, 54mm (2-1/8") WOW. I then started to install (for mockup) the accessories and intake:
Image (3).jpeg

That is when I discovered I was missing a lot of parts and this wasn't going to work I'd never be able to find them all going one at a time, to be continued...

Continuing on with the RX7 saga, I rarely ever see them for sale that still have the original engine unless they are in running but have kept an eye out and ran across an add for a Nissan with this car in the background, messaged the seller and made an appointment to have a look at it yesterday morning:
Image (5).png

It was in very rough shape, but it had almost a complete engine and very little in the engine that looked like it was missing:
Image (7).jpeg

The distributor was pulled so it likely has a trashed engine now so I can't just swap it over instead I'll have to pull all the parts, vacuum hoses etc to make the silver car run again. I saw it had flat tires so I took the 4 from the silver car with me to swap them out, turns out the lug bolts (not lug nuts with studs) for the silver car are longer than they were on the gold car so they didn't fit. Luckily the the car was at a wrecking yard and they used the lift back truck to bring it right over to my trailer where I used a come-a-long to pull it onto my trailer.

When I got home I swapped out the tires on the front, rears had a security stud on each, I didn't have the key, used a nut extractor on the passenger side and it worked well, sadly on the drivers side it just spun and messed up the extractor. I tried drilling and at a certain point around 7/16" bit just wouldn't cut, I suspect they are hardened and the bit just wouldn't cut even after sharpening on the Drill Doctor. I cut my losses and just pulled it off of the trailer as it was. Sadly that same wheel is frozen and wouldn't turn at all. Once on the shop floor I put a dolly under it and all is well:
Image (8).jpeg

Speaking of heat, I was beat by the time I got to this point, the forecast doesn't look any better either:
Image (9).png

Have a good one ya'll and stay hydrated.
