Purchased and moved into this little Bungalow back in February. well laid out, clean slate basement for a third bedroom, second bathroom and entertainment room.

and perfect, no garage!

Skip forward to July.....

24" wide foundation.

16" retaining wall, 20" at the big door, 8" thick

quite the change but still little bit of yard to mow....who drinks on the lawn with a deck to do so.

Perfectly smooth slab 5" thick.

Walls and roof to go up tomorrow then finish off the exterior before applying my touch to inside.

final footprint be 24x24 with 10' ceiling.

Great start to a build, can't wait to see more. 24' deep, is that enough for that dodge to fit in there?

Dads is 24' d by 22' w. I worked on the truck plenty over there but this one is gonna have a better layout and more floor space.

Wanted 9' door so quad can be in the truck ready to go for a ride when the itch comes up.

Paperwork doesn't show. Excavation, prep, pour and finish was 14. I couldn't complain as these guys did killer work and were on site 3-4 weeks faster than anyone else could do it.

That sounds about right. I always read on here how cheap concrete is elsewhere in the world. It seems like we pay double for everything.

Is it the actual concrete that's the expensive part? I had an uncle from Canada visit recently and was surprised that I got my shed slab and driveway done for about $11k total. He said the same would be around $20k where he is in Saskatchewan.

My concrete was $400/m. Just the concrete with delivery. Nothing else.

Sent from my Passport

Holy cow!

1 m = 1.3 yards. We have a local company that sells for $75 per yard, though $100 per yard gets you better service.

Definitely a lot pricier up there!

Very nice garage build. I love the tall curb wall.

Help with what's going on here; do they normally build with untreated lumber touching the cement in your area or is that wood treated differently than our "normal" green-treated down here? All I've ever seen is 100% green-treated in contact with cement then regular lumber up from there.

No clue why they went with normal spruce. I will probably ask that the siding go down past that point. Never seen this method been done but they said most houses are done this way here.

They wouldn't be able to survive 6 months of winter.

Slab should get cut into quarters by a buddy for little bit of insurance tomorrow before I put a single truck in there. Toyota gonna be happy to be parked out of weather here on in.

Shingles go up on Saturday. And if I can with my broken hand I gonna hand bomb the siding into the garage one piece at a time as the boxes are just damp and toast.

Siding has gone up. 😀

***** color is not same as the house but I probably redo the whole exterior of house next year or two.

Black Gutters and downspouts should go up soon so I can start with the rainwater harvest next spring.

Then by code since my doorway is elevated from the floor I need a landing same depth as the door so I am continuing my deck right from patio doors into the shop. Future pictures will show what I envision.

It's removable so I plan to store longer extension cords as well the 220 cord underneath.

Then this little goodie showed up this morning so I have painted all the brackets to the big door and track as well the track black to make a more finished look into the interior.

Gonna love the Keyfob door opener.

Trust me I can't wait either to get down to the details!

Right now I am just battling with my last contractor to get my record of employment to bring in some cash to sustain this broken hand injury and keep things moving on the build before I end up back to work on only have limited time. Just be happy to have it sealed up with power and gas ran out before the snow flies. Gotta think what I gonna do with the yard of dirt over the winter with my pit bull.

Been sidetracked with updating yet little things are happening .

Here's my version of a different take on a sidewalk from the deck to the shop. Such a short run I didn't want concrete so why not continue the deck down and into the shop.

Need to remove boards and back fill in with 40mm washed rock I think. This will allow me to weed whack and keep a clean yard.

Sheeted the ceiling, still need to **** up the sheets so still level. Easiest is as holes are notched out for lights.

Done three, one for access if I need to now which will turn into a light which had to be moved back one truss due to where the heater is going. Two lights installed for the inspection to be signed off then 10 more are going in.

Haven't been upgrading a lot of my build threads as it's just tedious same old as most of already seen. Will be updating more after I get to go balls out once I get the code inspection done on Wed..... Gonna be a long day today, 9 hour shift then a 275km drive home to finish wiring up the man door light as well figure out why my two fluorescents only kick the breaker when I turn them off...

Then it's the spotless cleaning of the garage and yard. I want no issues for them to even consider!!!

Under unfortunate circumstances (Fort McMurray wildfires), I am forced to update my build threads. As well glad to be back on the little details of my shop.

Had some theft issues recently but have rectified any and all access points to my place including this welded and sheeted gate for where the utility trailer was to go. Completely came up with me, smooth perforated aluminum riveted on the outside, and hinged/double padlocked on the inside. If you get over this, the dog may not let you out.

As well motion sensed light for over the man door, which is a straight shot from my patio door. It may be given to my mom as its been discontinued and I wanted both the house outdoor lights to all match.

As well picked up this for the back lane over the big door, with the cameras going up I WILL see who has come and gone if anything happens. Need to pick out some smaller dusk to dawn lights for the yard side perimeter.

Currently working on the wiring, 12 fixtures of 4 bulb 4' t5 bulbs going up. Zoned switched so I can run full out or as need be.

Took the dog for a late night walk so I could take this picture. This is only the deep end half of the 4 bulb 4' light fixtures stuffed with 6500k bulbs.

Soon to finish sheeting in the walls with OSB after the 220 is routed. Then gas line and overhead heater and I ready for code inspection.

Talks already been done for getting my walls and ceiling sprayed with gloss white paint by my neighbor.

Finished wiring up the back half of my 6 zones of 2 fixtures each in my shop ceiling.....never thought I would say this.....too bright so now probably gonna modify what I can for more light control.

Checker board pattern zones. This will allow me to not use certain zones yet get a decent light spread.

It's been a slow build but should pick up speed soon.

Finally found a day off to throw up a heater to take the chill off Canadian winter

Sure looking to get my gas line pit in next week so I can finally get the yard done before the fall comes!

Before I took off for a good chunk of time for work I got the outside lights working. And very happy. Man door is double acting. Motion sensed but won't turn on if it's not between dusk to dawn.

And the big door is LED dusk to dawn. Lights up the whole width of my back lane the full length of my property!

Finally got Gas line rough inspection done for the heater, city said it's one of the cleanest installs he's seen in a long time so signed off on as the final inspection as approved!

Gas fitter was back in an hour after, and finished off the job. So nice to have heat on demand now!
