So, is this where you look all over for your claw hammer level and square that's packed in the very end of the storage pod?:D

Okay. It's well after eleven, so here's the pic's anyway! first pic, you dig yourself a big hole.{There are at least 3ways that can be interpreted.} Second pic, keep digging! Third pic, rather than bust up the carport slab sections, We just slid them into the hole and used then as part of the filler. Pic four, I want one of these thingies! Too bad after this project I wouldn't have much further use for it. Pic five, After taking off to run errands, I came to back a nice square, flat pad, surrounded by what will turn into a foundation and floor. If the weather doesn't turn it into a mote for a very small castle first.:lol_hitti

I was with the "keep it" crowd until I aw some of the later photos. That building had breathed it's last....probably a decade or two ago.

Tough you'll have to spend a LOT more money than rehabbing might have been but you'll be very happy with the results and that's worth plenty. Can't wait to watch this garage go together.

Thank you for the support.
Sean buick76,
when you haven't had a garage for a while, a bit of humor comes in handy.
Dan in Pasadena,
I can't wait either!

Here are some of the obligatory pic's of the concrete forms being built. They are squaring and leveling it right now. If they get the gravel brought in today I will post more pic's. Being able to see the actual footprint of the slab is getting me all kinds of happy.

The city was just here and signed off on the concrete form framing. We pour concrete Friday about noon. My builder says he wants to be done by the second Friday in April. He leaves on vacation the following Monday. Works for me!

Hot dog! I just had a job interview with CARQUEST. It was one of my old store managers from a different parts company. I just have to do all the application process and in a couple more weeks, I should be getting an actual paycheck. It's a part time position to start but he wants me for full time as soon as something opens up. But, 20 hours a week at $12.00 an hour still pays better than un-enjoyment and he said "20 hrs. a week, minimum, probably closer to 30 a week." That just made my day a whole bunch better!

concrete pouring pic's! The first load starting at the rear-most corner. After the footing trenches were dug, just to be ABSOLUTELY sure we were within property lines we moved the markers 1 extra foot to the north. So, the north wall footer is twice as thick as the south walls footer. But still within code on both walls.

more pic's! The proud papa admiring his new floor. Second pic, this dude was here ALL day, floating and troweling, floating and troweling. He was GOOOD! Of course the third picture is where I had to mess it all up! I put 2014, P-paw{what my granddaughter has always called me} & my granddaughters name, Martina. My two kids gave me grief about not putting their names in it too. I told them they don't make me happy the way she does!:lol:

Dan,
They came out and pulled the forms yesterday a.m. , I was gone, so no pic's. I will post slab pictures tomorrow. They are coming out to lay and seal the sill plates in the afternoon. and then start framing Monday. And I might start my new job that day as well! WooHoo! I am a happy camper right now.

Tuesday evening they had all 4 walls up. But, by then it was too dark for good pictures.:( The framers came back Wednesday and finished the top plate, and wrapped the studs. Also the electricians came out and installed the new power pole. Since this pole is actually mine, and not the cities, I had to move the meter off the house and onto the pole. Just one of those weird "code" things. Pic.1 is the new power pole. Running the power from the street, to the pole and meter, to the house panel. This was the least expensive option as the house panel was already wired for the garage. The rest of the photo group is from each corner the garage. 4 nice views of the trash piled in the middle.:D

Remember the sealing tape I mentioned earlier? Well... it rained last night. A lot. I went out to find 3/4 inch of standing water on my garage floor! I emediately started to squeegee out the water. YES! The seal tape between the sill plates and the slab does work VERY well!:lol_hitti

WE GOT TRUSSES!!! Alarm went off at 6:30 this morning and after hitting the snooze button just one time;), I hear a large something out front of the house. THIS is what I saw. The Framer said they "normally" set the trusses on top of the walls and all he has to do is move them around. That way its a one-man job. He needed to go get some help with getting them up top but assured me they will all be up today and possibly even some sheeting.

Okay. The trusses didn't go up yesterday. The G.C. had to schedule two extra bodies to help get them up. The end wall units are up and the rest are going up as I try to type. Here's what I have so far.

ooops! Here are the pic's!
I was at the utility co. paying for my re-hook up and schedule my electrical inspection when the first end went up.{pic.1} No.'s 2&3 are the other end going up. I took them longer to center and nail the ends in place than to put them on top of the walls themselves.

Well... nothing exciting to report this weekend. There's a large stack of plywood in the middle of the garage floor and all the rafters and joists are in place. The city came out and approved our electrical connections and pole. The weather is supposed to be good tomorrow soooo... I hope I will see sheeting on the roof when I get home from work. I REALLY want this thing closed up by the end of the month so I don't end up paying another months rental on the storage pod. That could be $235 towards cool stuff for the garage!

Not a lot of progress this last week. My wife and I made one of the hardest decisions a pet owner has to make. The oldest of our 2 four legged children, Bronco the wonder dog, had to be put down. He was 14 people years and was unable to get up from the floor with out help. He had been getting weaker and more fragile over the last six months so we finally had to think about his pains and aches. He will be sorely missed when not stepping over him in the middle of the living room rug.

So sorry to hear that. Dogs give their all to us. It takes compassion to end the pain the the end of life brings. You made the tough but compassionate choice.

Thank you guys, for the condolences. Every pet we get takes a special place in our hearts and lives. While we might replace one for another in our lives to fill that empty space, the new pet just opens up a new space in our hearts. We will most likely get another rescue dog. There are so many that need good, loving homes. But, for now, it is a time for grieving and remembering.

As for the garage this week, Still finishing up the roof sheeting. The shingles should be here Monday and the guys can finish the loft floor, build the stairs, garage door, man door.
I was thinking it was taking long time to finish this construction till I realized, IT'S STILL MARCH!!! They started on 3/3/14! I got no reason to complain other than just getting "antsy".

Progress made! The G.C. asked if I wanted the shingles to match the house. Being the overly-frugal person that I am,{Cheap basterd!} I asked how much more. SAME PRICE!! OKAY! He also wanted to know which way I wanted the man door to swing and some other small details. The shingles will be here tomorrow and they can get the ends closed up and the stairs built. Also get the loft flooring down. I might be able to get the storage pod out of the front yard by end of next week.:rocker:

More pic's!
First pic is my new stairs. Pic two is from the top of them, and no.3 is the nifty storage space under them. This is where the compressor will go, tucked out of the way nicely. Also a perfect spot along the wall for stacking my sandpaper file, a small parts bin and another parts bin above that.

Mike,
Good to hear from you. Oh yes, the compressor will be hidden and muffled. I am going to have to do some modifying though. I will take the pressure regulator/gauge assembly off of the pump and tank to mount on the wall. As well as the hose hanger and water trap. I have more pic's to post but have just been lazy about posting.

Okay, here's the pictures of the loft area so far. First two pic's are from Monday. The second is myself and "The shop boss", my granddaughter, Martina. No.'s 3&4 are from Tuesday evening. And, us again. Grandma took this one from the stair end of the loft. Sorry about the "red-eye" from the flash. Either that or she's channeling one of Ed"big daddy"Roth's monsters! She loves Rat Fink shirts and stuff. I am a bad influence on impressionable youth!:D
