Sheds doing well. I will try and post up some progress pic's in a couple days. I havent figured out how to post pictures on the laptop yet. My daughter tried the other day to show me, But, her laptop uses a different operating system than mine. Hers is a Sony something or other, and mine an Acer Google chromebook 15. I got a bunch of pic's, I just cant post 'em.

RR, that is so frustrating not being able to post the pics! We have just got new Iphones here, my wife wanted the bigger i7unit, I stayed with the same size as my i5 and reuse my plastic cover. My wife and son sat down and transferred everything over and kept the icons and short cuts just where they were on the old one...no need for me to learn new things. It is one of the new 4G system and is a lot faster than the older 2G that I was using. Even got a new Dongle/modem for the computer so its on 4G for data now. e.g. is before it used to take 7 minutes to upload a pic onto here, now it only take 3 minutes. That's even with the school kids on holidays.
So keep at it and we'll wait for you, knowing how it plays on your mind.

All righty then! Here's the pic's of the newest mess I've gotten myself into. I guess I haven't figured out getting past thumbnails just yet. ANNNYYYWAAYY!
the first pic is the crappy shelf thingy I replaced. Oddly shaped, rickety, just didn't fit my needs. #2 pic is the corner it came from. I finished boarding this up with the OSB from pic #3. Picture 4 is my mock up for an idea of how big it was really going to be. You can also see the 2x4s I used for the front edges and to serve as up-rights. #5 is a shot of the 1x4 I used to hold the Osb panels off the floor. This keeps them from getting wet when I mop out the garage. (once a year, whether it needs it or not) In #6, here's the supports for the 1/2 inch plywood shelves. And the first shelf going in is the last one. I put it 3 feet up from the floor so I can store my spare engine.

I'm going to try some more pictures. Wish me luck! It must be the way I down loaded them to the file I keep them in. Oh well, on with it!
#1 pic is just a basic "in progress" filler photo. #2&3, jeese! but it filled up quick! My spare engine for the daily driver fits perfect, with just enough room along side for my propane heater. The rest of the shelves are spaced 18 inches apart. The last teeny, tiny, thumbnail, the work bench is all cleared off, and I still have quite a bit of room left on the shelves.

Now, For the rest of the wall work.
#1, I moved all the..."stuff" off the south wall. #2, I finished the insulation and installed the 7/16 osb lower board. Just like the shelving unit walls, I spaced them above the floor using a chunk of scrap 1x4, so I can swamp out the garage. Pic 3, Some guys really hate pegboard. I just hate not having enough peg HOOKS. :lol_hitti In #4, I had just started painting. #5 is the wall behind the work bench. #6, I had enough osb to go all the way over to the stair landing. I had already started to make shelves along this wall. So, the boards are only held in place with only a few nails. This way I can work out what I want to do with more shelves and doors to hide it all later. In #7, here's how it looks with a coat of paint before I clutter it all up again.

Not much going on with the garage at this time. Busier than a one legged tap dancer with other stuff. My work just moved us into a brand new building, so I've been averaging 50+ hours a week. All of it has been closing shifts untill 9 p.m. too.
My family celebrates the Mexican tradition of "Dia de los muertos" along with the Tacoma art museum and the local Mexican heritage population. For the last 10 years we have had an alter on display at the museum. It's a way of honoring and remembering our loved ones who have passed over.
My wifeys birthday is also coming up faster than I can handle. November 11th. She will be "the BIG" 60 and wants a huge party. With a "super hero" theme. In the only space big enough with out renting a hall. Yup, you got it...the garage. I got a fair bit of cleaning up to do, mostly the loft area. I just need the time from work to do it. Also the yard needs work as we will be using the deck and fire pit areas as well. Weather wise? This is the Pacific Northwest! We hang big blue tarps over the yard from the trees and PARTY ON ! (****! I just remembered. I have 40 pounds of chicken wings to make for this shindig!)

RR, I have a hard time remembering what year birthday it will be for anyone, so , I just buy DW a 21st card every year for the last 30 years. She always giggles when she opens it. And yes the kids groan.
Works for me!

Terrick,
Well, it took a while, but we finally got through the last of the leftover chicken wings! Next party...1 ten pound bag will do nicely!
I do need to get off my rump and post up more pictures. I keep taking them and sending them to my email and thats as far as it gets. I did have to do a bit of work on my dailey that was unexpected. I was waiting for traffic to clear on a hillside intersection, went to pull out(uphill) and BANG, the car wont move. Forward or back. Halfway across traffic. Busted the right axle off at the bearing.
Tow truck grabbed it by the back end, lifted it up, and the wheel, drum and axle chunk fell off on the ground. I had been on the freeway at 65mph less than 10 minutes before this!:shocking: I put new tires on the front 2 weeks prior so maybe the back end got jealouse.:dunno:
Christmas was another big family gathering in the garage this year too. again, pictures are still in the camera.
I may be starting a new job mid-month or early February Working a set schedule, monday - friday, with actual weekends and evenings off. Hell, I might even find time to actually post all these pic's I claim to have!:bounce:

Got the new job. I'v been at it for 3 weeks now and its starting to come together, all the stuff you have to learn in a new environment. "How do I do this/that/the other thing?" "Where is ......?" "Where the hell's the reset button?" Not to mention the really important stuff like "whens payday? Lunch? Does the boss EVER leave early?"
The wife and I are still getting used to being off TOGETHER on weekends. Now THAT'S taking some effort!:D

Hey terrick,
Weellll.....
The new job is now the last job. As we were entering the busiest part of their year, the other parts guy(he was hired a week after me) went m.i.a. No call, no show.Last Wednesday I come in, seeing he still wasn't there, asked the boss. "He's done" was the only reply. Okay, right call to make, not reliable, get him gone!
Thursday morning, next day, one of the service techs(Jimmy) is at the gone dudes station. Jimmy is nursing a dirt-bike-busted collar bone and is on light duty. He knows nothing about the parts system and says"I'm a diesel mechanic, not a computer nerd." Anyway, I go to clock in and the boss says"We need to talk upstairs in the conference room." NEVER A GOOD THING! To shorten this up, now they have a crippled service tech on the parts counter with no experience. and no experienced help at all in the parts department. They have just set themselves back to last January when they had nobody!
Best part of the whole crappy learning experience? Got canned at 8:00 am, my old boss called me at 4:00 pm and I start back on the 15th. With a 3 dollar an hour raise over previouse. Also Advance auto parts is opening a new store about 4 miles from my house and thats where I landed. Cool beans all 'round I'd say.

I hope this works. I found my old race car from 25 years ago when I went axle hunting.

Now if I can just remember what I did so I can do it again! LOL.
Okay! I remembered!
Doing a bit of body work(again) on the first car I ever owned,( and still do!)It's a 1950 Chrysler Windsor 4dr. This old girl has been in my Family since February 1968. She has seen several different paint "themes" over the years. The most recent one I went rat-rod style with it. Flat black and home sprayed, rattle can flames! The front end needs work, kingpins mostly, and all new weather stripping and seals. and she is starting to show day light in places she isnt supposed to. But, I love her, my grandaughter does too, and she is part of the family.

For a while now, I've been wanting a bigger work bench. I wanted it a little bit taller than average so I didn't have to stoop over working on shi...stuff. Here's the old bench. 36 inches tall and only 6 feet long by 30 inches wide, and a bad case of wobble.

I went down to the local St. Vincent dePaul store just kinda looking for good junk, and I found some! These 3 nice double drawer file cabinets. I had shown my wife the "Steevo" roller cabinet work bench build before this and SHE pipes out with"Why dontcha use those file cabinets instead? All they need is a coat of paint." HMMMM. Yeah! Why not? The yard guy says they want $5 a drawer for file cabinets. $30 later and I had a project for the weekend. Here's the file cabs and some the junk the was in/under{barely}the old bench.

I made a trip to the local box home improvement center and bought 4 qty, 2x2x8ft, 4 qty, 2x4x8 ft, 1 qty, 4x8x1 1/4 floor under layment plywood. This is the basic plan. Enough room under to slide my drain pans and enough space at the far end for my "box-o-welder" and the confounded miter saw my buddy, Jay, left here 10 years ago.{"I know where it's at if I want it"}

Here's the bits and pieces coming together. I used the 2x2s to make the support frame for the file cabs. The 2x4s for the legs and bracing. and after I narrowed the 4x8 sheet down to only 38 inches, I had a nice 10 inch wide piece for the back side brace.

I got it finished up and put in place tonight, and some of the junk stashe back under it. One last 2x4 under the bench top for a spine brace, some paint and a piece of sheet steel on top, She'll be good to go. I also plan on adding some more to the shelf over the welder box and miter saw. If you look close, you can see it doesn't go all the way back.

My grandaughter wanted to see my garage build thread. After looking it over, when we got to the garage door/wall swap part, she says " I helped with it a little bit. Don't I get my picture there too?" So I better fix that right NOW!
Here is "the shop boss" pre-drilling screw holes in the door header we made. oops. I forgot to rotate the picture.

She's getting her own welding helmet for her birthday this year. Just a cheapy Harbor freight one to start with. If she sticks with it, I will buy her a nicer one later on.

Reverse phycology works. I bought DW a 12"chainsaw for firewood. We don't have a fireplace in the house now! But she does a moderate amount of trimming of the older trees with it.

Well, I started messing with the old Chrysler and actually drove it to work last week. Everything was fine on the way TO work, on the way home...not so much. The ammeter started reading discharge. I got it home, and broke out the 1955 motors manual and started running all the diagnostics. I had been momentarily grounding the field on the voltage regulator to "kick" start charging for a while. So, I knew the regulator was on the way out. When that made no difference, I put my trusty multi-meter directly on the generator and got zero voltage out of it. I took it off and messed with the brushes. They are only worn MAYBE 20%. I put it back together and did the old "run power through it backwards and see if it motors" thing. It didn't. I got it all back apart tonight and will run the armature to an electrical shop here in town that does rebuilding, and see if they still have an old "growler" to check it with. Depending on cost, I might just finish up the 12 volt conversion and go from there. Wish me luck mates. I gonna need it.:shocking::lol:

Well, I got the armature "growled" and it is okay. I put the gennie back together and tried to motor it again. This time I remembered to ground the field terminal and she spun like a champ! I put it back in the car and polarized the regulator as per the directions.(momentarilly touch a jumper wire between the "bat" and "arm" terminals) but it didn't spark like normal. NOW the amp gauge is reading backward! I have another regulator coming and will swap them out. Someone had installed this one before and polarized it for NEGATIVE ground.:shocking: My old heap is a POSITIVE ground system. I also found out that 6 volt regulators are still readily available for tractors and other farm equipment at half the cost of the automotive ones! And they are the exact same part with a different number! :dunno:Lots of old 6 volt, 40 amp generators on lots of old tractors still out there chugging along!
I also plan on giving it a complete re-wire this winter. I used an EZwire kit before and it worked okay. I'm just not happy with my installation. My skill set has improved a bit and I want the job to reflect that fact.

Had a rather tragic event in the neighborhood this afternoon. 3 blocks over the folks had a nasty fire that started in the garage, move up into their attic, and mostly destroy the house.
Thankfully, no one was injured and most property can always be replaced. I heard one of the firefighters say the fire started in the added on electrical panel for the garage. I cant help but wonder if the homeowner did some kind of "scabbed" together wiring or ?????
I hope they had permits, code inspections, AND insurance!
Especially permits and inspections. Without those two...insurance wont pay squat.
Check all your home owners insurance and be sure it is up to date! I'm checking mine for sure!
Also check your homes and garages for fire hazards. I went out and did mine already. I'm good. How about y'all ?
