Thermal Overload Sizing

I am reconfiguring my Quincy, and want to know how to add a thermal overload to my magnetic starter.

Currently the thermal overload is on the motor itself, but I want to remove and put it in the starter box.

Why? Because the starter currently has the reset button doing nothing and it bothers me.

While we are here we may as well double check my breaker sizing. I'm using a 50 amp, it's about 40-50 feet away from my compressor.

Something like this, but normally used for three phase equipment. These are the thermal units.

Guessing you can use a three phase rated box and only use two legs?. I've been able to find surplus items that I have for my three phase equipment.
I can move this to the electrical section if you like?

Yes please move, I completely forgot about the electrical section.

Here is what I was looking for. I have the contactor and everything already, just need this piece.

why bother going through all that trouble of removing the integral overload protection from the motor?
I agree the internal overload is superior to the remote overload. Do not remove it if you want both OK the only down side is that troubleshooting will be more difficult.
