They Quit Making It

I have found various things I really liked that quit being made.

Basic Klein leather tool pouch. Some had 2 front pockets, some 3. Both very good. I could carry my basic electrical tools on my hip. Slim, light & sturdy. They made this for years & I went through a few of them. Craftsman had a similar one too. Their closest version now has crazy large tube pockets out front. I think it’s the 5127. I got my current one from E Bay.

Home Depot once had a plastic drill box that worked well for me. Soft foam inside, just toss in drill, charger & batteries. Didn’t have to nest precisely, foam held them well. Had a small hardware tray in top. Good for bits, etc. I used mine 2 years & couldnÂ’t get another one.

I bought a rolling Craftsman tool box that worked well. Deep enough for bulky tools, a large deep tray for long items, then a top tray over it for smaller stuff. I used it several years, then Sears had quit making it. I still have the base. Other parts long broken & gone.

I had a Douglas hacksaw from Electric Supply Company. Best hacksaw I ever had. Simple & sturdy. Top tension rod & metal nut over handle. Storage for blades in top tube. It got stolen & I couldnÂ’t find another one. I later found a close Craftsman model & was happy with it. Then Craftsman quit making it.

I found a good 5 gallon bucket liner at a hardware store. Had all the right sleeves, all the right pockets, etc. I used it for several years in residential electrical work. I patched & sewed it til it fell apart. Replacement? Not a chance. All others I’ve seen were either junky or wrong design. I thought of designing my own with pvc or pex tubes , all inside & with a lid for weather. Never had the time. I should have made time.

If I get to likin’’ something, it ain’t around long.

What we call buggy whips are the whips with lights on them that pickups use in mine sites so the big haulers don't squish them. The kids version are hard to find as well. Handy on ATV and scooters.

I'm in Canada and just the other day I saw coke in the full size not novelty glass bottles at the gas station. Apparently it is being produced in Canada and isn't the Mexican imported stuff (not that it was bad or anything).

It's a major conspiracy ! Happens to me all the time. Especially at the western MI Meijer grocery stores; e.g. where they sold a fabulous big (as in what used to be typical) can of Pacific Albacore tuna fish. But sure enough, after we discovered it and started buying it every week....they 'quit' carrying it. Don't know if someone actually 'quit making it', or what.

Then, same thing with the: 'Stouffers Family Size Simply Crafted White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese 33 oz. Box'— which was THE WORLD'S GREATEST MACARONI & CHEESE !

But who really knows what's in the Mexican stuff! :headshake They were putting Methanol (toxic to the skin & body) in most of the hand sanitizer they were exporting. I remember seeing at least 30~40 Mexican exports on the FDA's mandatory recall list, in May.

These Husky precision screwdrivers. The ones they sell now are garbage.

If the Douglas Hacksaw looks similar to the one below, Klein produces or produced a somewhat similar hacksaw.
Some places may still have new ones, although I think they were $60 or do.
Used ones are plentiful on Ebay.
The design seems to go back to a company called Dreier Brothers, who made several or more styles of hacksaws.
I’m not sure if Klein purchased/inherited the design afterwards or whether someone else continued to make the design.
More than one company sold the saws rebranded.

Same here man once I like something it always gets changed or discontinued. Like car designs especially I don’t like the designs of any new cars they all look ugly I wish they would go back to the old styles. I also miss the restaurants and stores I liked too that are gone now. Or tool brands and products too.

Kobalt claw hammers with the gray/blue handles.
somehow they just fit my hand perfectly. New version is smaller. When I discovered they were gone, I turned to evilPay. Managed to snag 3 16oz new right off the bat, and pretty cheap; later grabbed a couple of 12's and 22's, just today got another 16, with a 22 on the way. Let's see, basement and main floor in the house, garage, SUV, Van, and the place in the country...
getting close to "enough"

I haven't seen the Dr. Pepper for a few months now, also was no longer available on Amazon last I checked.

Certainly not the end of the world, but I liked it.

If you have a Kroger in your area I have seen it there I was actually there about 30 minutes ago and they had it it’s down the soda isle usually. I have also seen it at Rural King and Walmart.

Humans like old **** because it is familiar. It gets worse with age.

The OP question might have been phrased: What tools that are no longer made do you wish were still made because the ones available today are shittier?

Lawn darts

I've heard there are no more manual transmission pick-ups

Vent windows. My '96 has 'em, but the factory mirrors block them so they only open about an inch.

Metal cases for power tools. Now they have these enormous blow-molded things that take up twice the space. My circular saw has to be adjusted perfectly or it doesn't fit.

Inexpensive basic portable radios. I don't need MP3, USB, CD, or anything else. Just a radio that works. Yes, you can still get them, but they're big bucks for anything that actually works.

Reliable appliances.

Actually anything reliable and long-lasting.

I found recently that you can get very hogh quality machines if you are willing to pay. Check out Heubsch. 100% American made. Anywhere from $800 for a homeowner model to over $10k for larger commerical washing machines. But the commercial models are likely a ome-time purchase for any homeowner.
