Ive never owned an auto trans pickup that didn't start having some type of transmission problem around 100k.

Stop buying GM, Ford or Chrylser products.

. If I were Chevrolet’s CEO, I would make a bare bones work truck that I could put out at 30-40 k.

I paid $36k for a new, Toyota Tundra SR-5 with SR-5 upgrade package (nicer cloth seats, full carpet, front bucket seats with center console, 4x4, 5.7L engine, spray-in liner, side steps, towing package, HD Alternator, all the basic goodies inside. Definitely not a stripped down, bare-bones work truck at the time.

Still got it, has 142k miles on it and is worth about $23k on the street today. Worth much more than a "Big 3" of same condition.

It amazes me how many people are driving these big full size pickups and never seem to have anything in the bed besides their golf clubs. These trucks are becoming a status symbol of the wants vs. the needs of the American people who are so in debt because they “need” a $50,000 truck to impress the neighbors.

Detroit is happy to make them, and not the old bare bones work truck with rubber carpet, roll down windows, and no satellite radio or heated leather seats. If I were Chevrolet’s CEO, I would make a bare bones work truck that I could put out at 30-40 k.

They still make them. By buddy just bought his work truck last year. A 2020 standard cab Silverado with manual crank windows, manual locks, rubber floor, 4.3L V6 and 8 foot bed. If I remember correctly, I think he said he paid around $22K for it. Brand new sitting on the dealer lot. It’s about as bare bones as you can get. It does have A/C, Bluetooth radio and backup camera so those things are always nice to have.

That's what I'm talking about. I guess you need the AC since they offed windwings, the BT radio also feeds diagnostics to their dealership network, and I know in some states the B/U camera is required. But yeah, tough, cheap, durable, bare bones simple. Still a hair over my 20K target, but close. Thanks!

Change the trans oil at 40,000 and then every 60,000. Everything needs maintenance.

Best mid-sized van ever. Have a 2004 with 148k miles. Love it. Other than a sucky turning radius (makes it a bear in a full parking lot) I can't find a thing wrong with it. Apparently there was a big movement to bring it back but then Chevy put a final kabash on the idea in 2020. I guess it didn't do well in front end crash tests, and they didn't want to re-engineer the truck.

Too bad. Mine is starting to get up there and I can't see anything out there that will do what it does.

The Gen V 4.3 V6 has the bore and stroke of the Gen III 5.7L V8. Not sure I would care for a 4.3, since the 5.3 has had cylinder deact 14 years and gets mileage a 350 never could.

I would like Tic Tac gum to still be made. No aspartame. Reasonable servings / $.

I've had one for five years and have not been kind to it. Aside from cosmetic wear, small holes/small tears and some stains, it's held up extremely well. It's not heavy weight, but it's very warm. It blocks the wind incredibly well and has a water resistant coating. It's the perfect hoodie IMO. Carhartt no longer makes them for whatever reason and the replacements are either too heavy, lacking the rain defender coating, lacking the wind fighter tech or the hoods are too short and end right at your eyes instead of extending past to protect them from the wind.

Thankfully I managed to buy two from eBay and have them as backups for when this one finally falls apart. The really annoying thing is Carhartt UK still has some remaining stock, but the cost is absurd with the exchange rate.

If I were younger I'd convert this baby in a heartbeat! Some of the videos of other people conversions are just phenomenal.

Mercedes Metris is probably the closest thing available today. The extended one would be better

I had an Astro.

I would have rather had a full size van.
