After reading the Gearwrench ratchet thread about the deal at Sears I had to stop there. I neglected to take pics of the 8 wrench sets I bought, but here is the ratchets, of note I did pickup two of each of the stubbies and the 1/4" drive ratchets but left them in my box at work.

I ordered a few Gearwrench flex stubby ratchets and the COO was Taiwan, not China. After cleaning and lubricating the gust, the ratchets are really smooth. I like them a lot and have ordered a few more flex ratchets in 1/4" and 3/8".

Are the ratchets, COO; now China and not Taiwan as well? I also heard; they were going to change over their head/tooth design over to 88 tooth soon... is this true?

Wow, I totally missed this one; I'm assuming the deals are over... very good prices!

They are going to 84 tooth. They are from Taiwan and you can still find the deal on the ones they have in stock. I just looked at the 3/8 flex with soft grip for like $22. Not a bad price.

Bad influence? With me it was like throwing gas on a fire!!
I came here to find a color to paint my newly purchase 1959 Craftsman toolbox.

Then I started gathering and organizing my tools. I basically knew Craftsman and Snap-On as good tools and as long as it didn't say Taiwan or China I was gonna use it.
Then I noticed all the ratchets that I have.....1/2 Par-X that I always liked that little Easco 1/4 that always seems to work its way into my hand, couple of Williams B-52 3/8 drives that were kinda hidden with an old P&C 3/8 drive open mech ratchet.

Then I find a socket that I remember from my first set that I was given in 1973 by an OLD mechanic...SK set with ratchet from the late 30s! Found them all plus the box!

Now I am sorting this pile of tools into brands and makers marks AND researching to find out their background. Then as I use my old beater bench grinder to knock a little stuff off an old Craftsman socket (circle K...had to look it up) I notice that my grinder is a Bluepoint...research seems to point to about 1948.

Proto, Husky, Thorsen, What is the difference between SK and SK-Wayne sockets, Why do I have a Williams H-1234 socket 3/4 drive and I don't even have a 3/4 drive tool...or do I? 2 broken Cornwall ratchets? Is that PLUMB or PLOMB on that hammer? Hammers? Cool Proto brass hammer (found on road!) Blackhawk ball peen, Cresent makes ratchets?
What does Dual pawl mean?
8" pipe wrench says WORTH on it? Made by Frank Mossberg??? bicycle wrench....I really should be mowing the lawn!

This place IS a bad influence. I just spent half my lunch break going through the socket buckets at one of the local pawn shops. Walked out of there with 16 sockets (mainly Craftsman, but I snagged some Proto, Matco, Snap-On sockets too) and a Craftsman ignition wrench for $5.

I should probably go back and snag all the Husky USA ones I left behind.

Yep... Before I joined this crack house i had what I thought was a decent set of tools. 99% of which was Craftsman. Now all that remains of that is sockets and a few extensions. Craftsman raised panel anything??? Not anymore. Pass me the Snap On thank you. :beer2: <<<< Kool Aid

Why did you order doubles?

Doubles, well in my ultimate world I would have a ratchet already mounted to each socket so that I would never have to swap out sockets, but by having more than one I can get a job done faster. Most jobs have between 2 to 5 different sizes, so by setting up the tooling in advance, I can attack the job with minimum time loss.

By the way on lunch I went to Sears and bought 9 more ratchets:bounce: and they also had a 3/8" drive set in a case that has the regular chrome ratchet, stubby, extensions, METRIC shallow and deep and SAE shallow and deep for $54, I couldn't even buy the socket and one ratchet at harbor freight for that price. So it will be going into my car's trunk as part of it's tool kit.

I think there is a whole secondary market in making custom fit toolboxes for cars, kind of how Weathertech does the mats for a car, well someone like Snap On should do it.

Wow, you outdid me, I managed to restrain myself to just 4 ratchets -- they arrived today.

Who knows?
Yep, bad influence.
Before GJ wife thought it was overkill with 13 ratchets, now have 48 with 3 on the way:bounce: and no signs of stopping.:3gears:

I tend to like the older ones that aren't made anymore.

3/8 flex for $22. Where at that price? I got the 1/4 flex from sears but not the 3/8 and It looks like the GW sale at sears is over.

Okay, I'm happy. With the sockets I came home with from the pawn store today, I was able to fill the missing holes in one of my existing Craftsman 3/8" SAE sets, plus build a Frankenstein set of 3/8" SAE sockets from 3/8" to 13/16" with Craftsman/Proto/Snap-On/SK sockets too.

Dammit, I need more socket racks now.

After using some of these new ratchets yesterday I love them! For the money, they peg the bang for the buck meter big time. I stopped by two other Sears stores on my way home and both were sold out of Gearwrench ratchets, one salesman said that after he put the discounted price tags on them all of the mechanics from the Sears Auto repair came in cleanerd them out. Now talk about having an unfair advantage, those guys only have to walk 200' to score.

Man, I missed it. I was too busy tracking down hot rod parts. I could've used a set of flex heads.

Nice score! I wish some of those deals from that site were still active, there's some serious value for your money at those prices!

This place is a bad influence... You can say that again! I never thought I'd be upgrading and buying new tools as much as I have since hanging out here.

You have a nice collection there TheGrooveking! I really like the GearWrench ratchets and have a 3/8" stubby flex on the way. I like their long flex ratchets a lot, but decided on the Armstrong Maxx because of the locking flex they offered.

From my expreince, the GW work as good as they look.

When I got here I had 3 ratchets that covered everything I needed for the most part over the last 20+ years. If I remember correctly I have 42 now. Looking at your collection of GW I'm sitting here thinking...yea, I need to expand that brand just a bit. Ha. I will never be able to use the life in all of these ratchets but at least I admit I'm a collector.
