I think I read here that vintage drills are pretty common. However, I thought this pre-Speedway Thor U44 1/2in was kind of neat. Not your usual Craftsman. Made by the Independent Pneumatic Co. in Chicago. They had dropped the Independent Pneumatic name in favor of Thor in '53 and in' 54 were bought by Speedway in Chicago. Then sold again to Stewart-Warner in '64.

I need to rewire it. I got one hell of of zap testing it.669ebfe9acb2e823801adcd7f26db35e.jpg314a0db618ce48773f2f7d3868e5dede.jpg5727895f08884c019638a91db3332e9c.jpg03707751effc097b485682f578e79bfa.jpgd66a24164d1157155dccba403cea1335.jpga8284f3a78ac7451dd7a326605cec883.jpgcf8239d9417e1f63bddb25201cf73d3c.jpg

I have a couple of those. We refer to them as the "wrist breakers." Be careful using those........awesomely powerful but if the bit catches, let go.

LOL I once had A Bosch SDS Max bind on me going into granite. My wrists were black and blue for a week.

Dads got one of those. I set it up on a fixture with bounce springs so we could hone cylinders after boring. It still gets used to this day.

Hmm.. that's really smart thinking. It may get some use again. After it's rewired.
