Thoughts on a used Bendpak

I have had my heart set on a Bendpak lift for years, but never have the extra cash laying around to drop on one. Today a friend told me about a used MX-10C so I went and checked it out.
Lift operates good, looks good, not beat up unreasonably or anything but I am still iffy on pricing for a used lift. The tag says it was manufactured 10/27/05 so it is a bit older.
He is asking $1250 but I am pretty positive I can get it for $1,000, but will hit him with $800 and see if he bites. I wish it was a low profile model for my race car, but I would just have to make it work with ramps.

Thanks everyone.

Tell em it's 12 years old.....pick out the bad areas, I can buy new for this much and yes....start at $800... That's it. Leave hour phone number and walk.

its worth $1250, so why are you trying to screw the guy out of money, if he wanted $800 for it, dont you think he would of listed it for $800. $1250 is not a bad price since they are running 3000 plus.

Exactly. Heck, if he helps you take it apart, load it and/or delivers it to you, I'd pay him $1500!

I agree, if a new one is in excess of $3,000 then the asking price of $1,250 for a good condition used one would seem to be more than fair. Since he is asking a fair price I would just pay it and not "insult" him by trying to get him to sell it for less.

I also agree with paying the guy $1,500 if he takes it down and delivers it. That way you won't wreck anything at his house while trying to remove it and you won't have to worry about how you are going to load and move it. I would think it would be a win-win situation, he would get an extra $250 and you get the lift delivered right to your garage.

He can not help take it down, I will be doing that myself with a hand or two. And no, I am not paying asking price for a 12 year old lift. I have many trailers and equipment to move something as light as a lift, that's the least of my worries.

I guess you have never once offered someone lower than their listed price.

I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for a Bendpak lift that's been used in a professional environment. That indicates that it's probably been used quite a bit and they aren't the highest quality lifts to start with. You can probably find a Rotary or other quality lift for not much more than that if you look around.

And that is why I was going for $800, not the $1250 asking. If it was a personal lift maybe.

Offer him the $800. If he says no, say it never hurts to ask. He may come back with a counter offer.

I can't believe that people still use imgur to post pictures here. It's not a friendly site to use here.

Imgur is all we use on every other forum I am part of and never had an issue. What does everyone else here use?

Here in British Columbia we have WORK-SAFE and in the USA there is OSHA. Here, all lifts, new and used, require that idiot resistant safety locks be installed. The lift does not become any less safe, but the new replacement models should offer an extra margin of safety for the person who needs the protection.
The asking price is just about right for a used two post in this area. One of the largest suppliers of vehicle lifts has been allowing some trade-in value on the old lifts then they resell the lifts to the domestic market. This has been a bonus for the guy who could not afford to buy a new lift.
This lift may well have been made in the USA because of its age. Made in USA and or Canada is important to me.
I would not let damaged paint be the "thing" that makes me walk away. look for bent and worn out pulleys, leaking hydraulic oil and frayed cables.
I do not want a two post lift. I would rather have a four post, for my situation.

It might be important to know what the regulations are for floor thickness to hold a two post hoist from falling over, forward or backward. Correct balance should b known and used, but, sometimes that mark is missed.
My friend had an import car shop and I used to stop by for a short visit, now and then. One of the times I walked into the shop, the new mechanic had a BMW 3 series balanced on the two front lift arms. The two rear arms were within a centimeter of touching the car.

You guys can offer whatever you want for an item, that's your choice. But if the lift were mine and I felt it was worth $1,250 and that was the price I was asking for it, if you were to offer me $800 I would show you the door.

If I were asking $2,400 for the lift, (or some other crazy price) that would be a different story. When I am asking a fair price for something I expect to get that price, or I am not selling it to you. To offer me $800, in my opinion, is an insult.

Paid $750 for my challenger lift , the old lifts are well made . Just look to see that it was greased in the tracks and not worn . Would have gone $1000 since a china lift is $2000 . Was in great shape

I guess negotiation is not your strong suit.

I agree, don't insult the guy. Its all a game of supply and demand. Around here a used lift is relatively hard to find. I paid $1000 for mine.

I would offer 800 and be willing to pay 1,000 if it's in good shape. I strongly suggest passing though. You will be kicking yourself every time you try to put your race car on it.

I'd rather blow things up than give it away to the low-ball Craigslist assholes. I post things with a "Firm" price and a "Haggle" price and the haggle price is always 1/3 higher and I will never agree to go as low as my firm price if they offer anything less first. I HATE haggling for prices.

I have tried to contact the seller on this CL offering. His asking price is higher than BABCO SALES ask for a new four post, delivered. I am going to wonder by this business around noon tomorrow and maybe make an offer, maybe

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/tls/6166864426.html

I looked at the 4 post lift. It is not as new as the seller is trying to suggest. While the age of the hoist was not mentioned, the seller tried to set an age by suggesting that they bought the lift only a few months before. I thought, "Why sell the lift so soon?"
The seller lowered his asking price to $2500, I started to leave. Again the asking price dropped to $2000
One of the stickers suggests that this lift may have been made around 2002. I saw a MADE IN USA on this lift.
I called the manufacturer and got some more information for myself. When the seller called later in the day, I made my first offer of $1000 followed by, "I hope you do not say yes." I expect to have my offer of $1000 accepted.
Lordco have a good deal on the REVOLUTION RFP8-800O, by ROTARY.
The lift shows wear that should be expected on a 15 year old well used lift. The right front safety catch did not clear and the column had to be "rattled" vigorously so the lift would lower.
