Thoughts on the new Kreg Edge?

I am curious on what the reviews will say once it's out. I'm sold on the speed, utility, flexibility, and strength of floating tenons, so I'm interested in how this stacks up against the Domino. Interestingly, it appears to use exactly the same cutter but Kreg says that their tenons are somehow different. If the Kreg is anywhere close to the Festool in performance, it's going to be a much cheaper alternative to the Domino.

Now that Festool’s patent has expired I’m expecting other manufacturers will come out with their versions. I would be more tempted by a manufacturer that I had more confidence in, such as Milwaukee, DeWalt or Makita.

The Kreg Rebel is used to drill pocket holes for pocket hole joinery. It essentially drills a slanted hole in which you screw in a pocket screw to hold the two pieces together. This is a very different approach than the Festool domino or Kreg Edge - both of which drill out two holes into which a piece of wood is glued.

So far as I can tell, the Edge is still not released.

The consensus around the community on the Kreg Edge Loose Tenon Joiner is highly enthusiastic, with most reviewers agreeing it is a major win for hobbyist woodworkers, even if it is not quite a "Festool Domino killer"

If I needed to use it everyday I might by the Domino, but for occasional use I will get the Kreg.

If I were using occasionally, which is what i do, I would go for biscuits or even pocket holes. They are easy and plenty strong for most applications, and you can find used biscuit machines for next to nothing and a kreg jig is cheap.

Even though everyone seemed to to think Domino's were much superior, and everyone who had one liked them, I had a big discussion on the Domino thread that they could not actually be much stronger than biscuits from an engineering perspective. I seemed to be the lone dissenter on that topic - nobody believed what I was saying.

I've built a ton of stuff with the cheaper methods and never had anything fail. If I get back into woodworking, I'll buy a Domino and try it - until then I'm fine with other methods.

Being a hobbyist and quite upset with the Festool price for the domino, I would really look into this machine if I didn't already own the domino. If this had been around 3 years ago, for me it would have been no contest and I would have saved the money. My domino sits unused months at a time, but sure enjoy it when I use it. Is it a domino killer, no not for professionals and serious 5 or 6 days a week wood workers. For the hobbyist wood worker like me, I would seriously try it out. But I also cut my own tenons and mortises even though I own a domino, the domino is just super fast and useful when I don't want to spend time hand cutting them. Sometimes though a bigger mortise/tenon is needed than what the domino can make
