I finally got the call I've been anxiously waiting for this morning. I was out the door and on the road to the chrome shop to retrieve the vice parts that went in last week. by 1PM I was back in the shop working on the jaws of the vice with a small pointed file cleaning up the grooves.
Then I had to file down one screw on each jaw to get them to line up when tightened (clocking the screws) and finally putting the base and screw lock on the vice to finish it up (only needed to adjust the length of 1 screw for the lock lol
My part is finished but I will be sending the vice out to have ALL the lettering highlighted next week

I’ve seen more than a few vise restorations and I’ll have to say normally I don’t shiny chrome and paint but Don yours made a huge impression on me. That little (and very old) Wilton vise looks right at home in that bench top with the other items you gave the Don Long magic touch to.
If you might want to also post pics of your Wilton over on the vise repair 101 thread please do. Also if you might have challenges with the bigger vise post pics and ask questions on that thread or just post more before and after pics.
Vises are fairly easy to restore (of course not to the level you just did) but some have a few things we’ve developed a trick or homemade tool to make taking them apart or putting them back together a bit easier.
