Long ago when I was in the parts business we had tons of those Dorman drawers. We would give them away! Whis I still had some today.

Total time consuming trying to restore and or detail every component before they get bolted back on.

See post 89 . . .

Not to mention with such a disorganized shop how tough it has been.
Shop cleaning ~ Organizing also being done to make this easier.

Running a obstacle course all day not fun . .

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

The pictures aren't working? :dunno:

Refer to post 89 . . .

I spent half the day yesterday uploading more pics to PB. When I clicked on box that says scramble file names I did. not knowing it would scramble the other 2000 pics already in albums.

All photo's the same in albums but just got new scrambled names. I had to go and re-link each one for photo's to work. . . Should be good now

Pretty much where I am at right now. Nothing in last week or so.
Shop cleaning organizing time.

I moved 3 times with all my stuff in a 9 month period. One of those across the country. Simply have not had the time or health to clean, organize.

I thought some might be interested in this Beyond Rare truck.

A Factory Ford Crew Cab F250 4x4 that had a Deutz Air Cooled Diesel Conversion when truck was new!

Way cool truck was used on the ****************. a now 3 owner truck.

Wow now that is an awesome truck! I use to be a Deutz certified tech, went thru their training school in Denver Colorado in 1983. Use to see quite a few of these conversions in delivery box style van's but I've only ever seen one other Ford truck with this conversion done and it used the 4L912. These Deutz are extremely tuff engines, always wanted to put one in my 76 F-250 but the money was never there.

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

:Missed the deadline for auction entry. Health just would not allow.

Have made some progress with help from friends. Plan is to have it at the Scottsdale Pavilions next saturday during the B-J & R-S Auctions.

Still a lot to but hope to make it.

A few random detail pics in no special order.

Pretty much anything and everything that was taken off at least got a detail.

Rear view mirror was pretty much totally gone and a new one was 70.00 so I took a piece of mirror and made a new one along with side mirrors.
Oreillys wanted 25.00 each for side mirror glass. so instead of 120.00 for cost of mirrors it turned out free with a little elbow grease to make new ones with a donated piece of mirror.

The backing which is Stainless Steel with the FoMoCO script had a few minor dings and scratches which I took out. Just total time consuming.

The old Craftsman wire cutters with screw cutter worked great shortening the stainless steel 10-32 screws which had to be a precise length.

This Deutz and my '70 Ranger will be at Scottsdale Pavilions this coming saturday.

The Deutz is now up and going and a daily driver. Runs Great.
Still a bit of smoke at full throttle is that normal? Really do not have any tuning specs on it yet.

The engine "kit" way back when was a whopping 8,000.00 $$

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

Paint work is not a favorite of mine . . but, part of project. Only non original paint is the left fender, top of right fender and upper and lower valances. Of course engine bay the core support and aprons. Battery acid had taken a toll on paint. No rust thru

I found a really neat silver to re-do grille inserts with. Just put some fixed n flat clear on after to help keep smudges away

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

headliner trim looked nasty but was able to improve it a bit . . . LOL

Pretty much everything in interior had some kind of dirt or buildup, mostly from sitting since the early 80's!

Finally found the rearview mirror glass prior to rounding the corners for a exact fit. Just used a expander wheel with 100 grit

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

got a bit carried away on dash bezel too! The original lens was pretty yellowed but made it look ok with a lot of sanding and buffing.

Headliner cleaned up nice too with the magic soap . . (LOL yeah I will get to that part eventually)
Amazing how well the woodgrain below cluster cleaned up.
Removed gas tank to clean behind it and also the pickup tube in tank was leaking at top.

Hit it with the steam cleaner to clean things out then re-soldered the fitting.

Detailed the gauges too. Takes about 1 minute each to clean them and restore orange to needles.

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

getting there . .

Would really like to put stock wheels and hubcaps back on but no $$ for tires at the time.

I found a HD 5 gallon pail is the perfect size to set hubcaps on for cleaning and buffing.

How is that for 44yr old Arizona paint? I used same 3m compound on paint, glass and all stainless. Polished stainless in minutes on the truck! Had to make a little jig on a wooden bench to hold interior pieces. Will do the same for stainless trim around door panels.

Truck as it was being removed from original owners back yard!

Has been sitting since early 80's. Low miles and great shape but needed a couple million hours of elbow grease to bring it back to life . . .

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

The windshield washer bottle cover had some dings and scratches. Sanded them out and gave it a bit of 3m polish with the air buffer and a foam pad.

That's a cool project! Nice work!

What compound did you use to buff the windshield?
