I just had my floor poured for my project a couple weeks ago. New construction 28x48 in NH I am an impatient person who is not much for reading on and researching projects before pulling the trigger, which is why I am at this point and need to ask this question.
I guess it started when I saw someone’s post on here about coating their floor with Rustoleum Epoxy. It looked great, and I had heard a lot of talk on here about how durable epoxy can be. The problem is I didn’t realize that most people weren’t talking about Rustoleum epoxy, but about other stronger, far more expensive epoxies. So me being me, I figured this guys floor looks good, and other people say epoxies are strong enough, so I ran out and bought two kits of Rustoleum at Home Depot for $100.
I have had the benefit of renting a garage with some friends for about 10 years. And those friends helped me build my new garage using the information we have learned by using this other garage for that time. One thing we have learned is that we are on the really destructive end of the scale. We are not Joe homeowner changing the oil in is Corvette three times a year. We strip cars for parts, junk cars for scrap, and build 4x4’s and other projects for our general amusement. The bottom line is we are hard on equipment, and not very good at taking care of things. But the floor in the garage we rent looks pretty much like it did when we moved in. Nothing special, but no worse for the wear.
So I am torn between the “bling” of having a nice new construction with painted walls and a snappy looking epoxy floor, or the longevity of standard unprepared, maybe spray sealed clear concrete floor.
Oh, and I really don’t’ want to spend thousands of dollars on an epoxy that will work. I thought if I could get something to work for under $1000 that would be reasonable.
