those sharp ridges aren't from hammer strikes, that's from beating the bolt into a hole. Ask me how I know... :bounce:

Merkava, you gotta get used to the idea that most people actually USE their tools... mind you, they don't always use them properly, but for most a tool is simply a means to get a desired job done.

The more I think about it, the more I start to realize that if I was going to choose a ratchet to abuse, Snap On would probably be the best choice. Why? Well, they are over-engineered compared to most other ratchets and SHOULD be able to withstand the added abuse....

IMHO anyway.

No!No!No! Snappy tools are great but with their **** warranty for me I would never abuse my SO tools, I would grab my Craftys to abuse since I have never had an issue with warranty on them, or if not the Craftys anything but the SO, never ever abuse SO tools, no warranty, or at least that is how I treat them! :wtf:

Thats not abused. Now if it was in a u shape or L shape it might be.

I've had cheater pipes put grues in them as well.

Eh, when I need to strike a ratchet, I use a cheapo Craftsman, a breaker bar, a combo wrench, or an adjustable wrench.

When you guys break a bolt off, do you put the snap on back in it's velvet lined case and grab a craftsman to throw across the garage? :lol:

Now you know that when you use snap on tools the bolts are afraid to break or round off. They wouldn't even dare to be too hard to turn. After all that's a Snap on there bub.

I'm still trying to figure out how a hammer can leave marks such as that. If that's from a hammer, that guy needs to learn how to swing one. Personally, I still think that's from whacking a bolt into (or out of) a hole.

I wonder its previous owner used it to assemble scaffolding... Maybe in a driving wind and rain storm too! Obviously the tool box full of hammers or cheaper ratchets was too far away.

Seconded. It would have to be damned cheap, as I can't see anyone warrantying it, but the head looks OK, it's just been used to knock a bolt in or out. Bad practice, sure, but a few nicks in the handle aren't going to do any real damage.

If those are hammer marks, I can only assume the dude used one of these:

Dude this was seriously funny!!!

I try and take the middle road, if I need to use a cheater pipe or something that could mar the finish, I grab the old F936 and put my F80 back in teh velvet case!

I love that ratchet!!!

Seriously though, time is money and sometimes you have to do what you have to do...snapon tools aren't irreplaceable and have a useable life like anything else...so live a little, throw the snapon next time!!

The first scratch is the hardest. After that its easier to take ;-)

I take care of my tools and clean them and whatnot but I wanna use the hell out of them and if they get a few character marks on them so much the better.

But I had a friend ask me to toss him a wrench and I walked it to him , cuz I ain't gonna ding up my snapon wrench throwing it around his driveway. To each their own. .

You guys are too tough for me; I can't even set my SO tools on the concrete floor when I'm using them under the car; I have to set them on cardboard so they won't get scratched.

Beating on a SO ratchet with a hammer is akin to burning the American flag; just a horrible thing to do IMO.

You guys would drop if you ever seen how my nephews use them. If they break....get a new one the next time the truck rolls in. My nephews use their tools. But what I really hate to see is my nephews 75th Anniversary. You probably don't understand the point I was trying to make. The point was that I hold Snap-on tools close to my heart; the same way I hold the American Flag close to my heart. I guess I shouldn't expect anyone to understand that though.

If the tool needs to be hit to get the job done, the tool will be hit. Simple as that. And yeah, the first scratch IS the hardest, I agree. After that it's cake.

I'd ask you to do that with a filler plug where you can barely get a ratchet on it, and it's tight as hell, and you can't get a longer ratchet. It's either an oddly placed prybar, busted knuckles, hammer (yes I use soft face deadblows), or removing the transmission.
