Tool Box drawer liners

Just starting to move stuff from the barn into the new garage. Cleaning 4 years worth of barn dirt, chicken feathers, mouse nests, and spider webs out of every thing. Want to replace the creased and tore up black foam liners my boxes came with with something more durable and that can be wiped off. What did you use and where did you get it? Don't care for the non slip kitchen type stuff. looking for more of thin rubber mat in a roll that i can cut to size.

I went to Harbor Freight and bought their solid black tool box liner. Then I bought some 1/8th inch Masonite. Spray glued the liner to the Masonite. To me it works very well. My tools stay put. I didn't like the open core stuff like you mentioned either...

This is what I used. Been in the box for about 3 months and I a very happy.
Tools no longer move around. The liner is not sticky but somehow grips the tools very well.

Get some 45mil thickness rubber pond liner from a local nursery. I have used that for years and it works great. They cut it from a large roll so you can purchase it in any length you want. The pond liner is heavy so it naturally lays flat, and it also doesn't try to stick to the tools when you take them out of the drawer like some other types of liners do.

Nu-Source www.nu-sourceinc.com makes an excellent liner. I installed it in six of my boxes. I'll be putting the Nu-Source liner in the rest of my boxes as time permits.

I have liners in mine. But in my big boxes full of heavy tools I use other stuff.

I used a quart of roll-on bed-liner a few years ago on one. Worked GREAT!

Recently I trimmed some old 18-wheeler mud flaps to size and used them. They seem pretty much bomb proof.

Earlier this evening I lined a drawer with a pair of old rubber car floor mats. Be creative!

Fugio, that stuff that tractor supply has by the roll is awesome. i have a friend that has the whole floor in a loft over his shop done with that. reminds me of the outer floor in a roller rink. the TSC by me doesn't carry it though. think i'm gonna go with rubber or vinyl carpet runner they have at home depot. 27'' x6' is $12.97.

I bought several rolls of these exercise equipment matts from Walmart. They are anti slip, nice and tick and worked AWESOME! It was pretty easy to cut with a sharp knife. It saved me a TON of money.

I'm looking for liners that are deep enough for 24.5" drawers. The closest I found in rolls is 24"x30'. Those are about $54 on Amazon and Home Depot online. A bit short but a 1/4" gap on each end won't hurt.

Anyone know a better deal on big rolls of liner?

I have some drawers lined with indoor outdoor carpeting that have been great for years. Things do roll however.

Just go with the Nu Source liner. Some of these other solutions like carpet or rubber are way too thick and take up precious drawer height.

The Nu Source line stays put and tools don't roll around.

It's as close to SO KRL drawer liner as I've found.

Went to 5 Below and picked up $5 yoga mats. Heavy enough not to slide around and comes in a 24x68 inch roll. Thick and grippy. Just throwing the idea out there. Seems to work great.

I think it's the same PVC composition as SO KRL liner. It's exactly the same thickness which I think is .050".

SO KRL liner is not spongy but it is slightly tackier then the Nusource liner. Older K and KRA liner was spongy. Eric at Nusource told me that they felt KRL liner was too tacky so they made their version a little less tacky.

SO KRL liner has a lumpy texture and the Nusource liner has a woven style of texture.

The Nusource liner is a whole lot cheaper!!

OP, there are a lot of good ideas here, my advice, think just a little outside the box (not complete left field). Like Fugio said about being creative and zer01 about the yoga mats, some of the best solutions are not sold as tool drawer mats. BTW, the stuff sold for this purpose are overpriced.

I have had success with the as mentioned yoga mats, car/truck floor mats. Go to HD/Lowes flooring & carpeting dept and check the various under pads for floors and carpets. Also the rubber outdoor mats, runners. Often, I go into a store clearance section and find stuff dirt cheap, sold for other purpose, and makes great padding or mats for tool drawers.

Some of the best AND cheapest are found outside of the tool section.

Update to my post above. I went to Lowes just to see what the carpet options were. The nice lady at the Moore store who helped me must have sensed I was unsure about using carpet for this task so she offered me 20% off. I thought it was odd as I've never had an associate offer a discount for no real reason. I accepted her offer and used about $20 worth to fully line a very large box.

My initial impression is that it does look nice, is easy to work, cheap to buy, and can be found locally. I will load my tools later today. Hopefully this works out. If not, I can get some actual drawer liners.

Yes, it is indeed awesome. I still say it's the best thing you can buy.

And if you're like DrBaker and worried about it coming in a big enough size, it comes 48" wide, but as long as you need it to be. So as long as your drawers are more than a hundred feet deep, it's perfect!

I have the yoga mats in my boxes at work and home. I also have them on my garage floor in front of the benches. Works great for me.

Another budget choice is cork mat. I think I paid $5-10 bucks for a roll of sheets at Lowes which was enough for my 5 drawer (15 x 23") chest and then some. It did take awhile to flatten out. I can't really comment on durability or "grip" but I like the look and it was easy on my wallet.
