Camping foam from walmart. $6. I can't seem to find it on the website, just go to a store in the camping section and you will see it. It's blue, comes in a roll.

I've picked up a couple of things:

1. Foam insulation from Menards - &8 for a 4x8 sheet 1/2 thick. Can be spray painted. Not as good as the flexible foam, but if you need a lot cheap this works for my carry around boxes.

2. Yoga Matts - these are much better than the cheap foam and 1/4 thick - I bought a few on sale at $5 each. To thin for shadowing but great as a liner.

3. HF!

Is the cheap stuff any good?

I had the cheap stuff in my work box until I had to re-shadow it, then I used the stuff they gave me at work because it was free. I liked it. It resisted skydrol and other chemicals. It's all closed cell foam so I'm pretty sure its about the same quality across the board.

I just bought this stuff from home depot for my "new to me" tool box. It comes in rolls of 18inx4ft for 5.99. I think it works great and looks pretty good. It's not thick enough to shadow but makes a pretty good liner.

Not all foam is good for tool box shadowing. You want some polyethylene foam in either 1.7 or 2.2 pound density. Start getting higher density and air gets trapped with moisture between the tool and foam and then you start having rust and flaking chrome issues.

I have ordered from here with good results.

I did step by step directions on my blog on how to shadow your toolbox with foam.
