I have a small toolbox in my house. And a woodworking bench (my kitchen table). And a motorcycle in my living room (BSA Gold Star). And a girlfriend who loves me and puts up with such things.

I realize you probably aren't going to be loading it up with thousands of pounds of tools, but you may want to consider the weight. I am not familiar with the model you are referencing - is it a chest or a rolling cabinet? If it's got rollers, I'd be concerned with the point load of the rollers. Depending on what type of flooring you have, you may want to put the entire thing on a piece of 3/4" plywood to distribute the weight a little bit.

I had two tool boxes in my extremely small apartment about 5 years ago, plus a bar that I had loaded down with parts off of my Camaro. Not gonna happen in the house though. I'm hard up for space here as it is. That being said, I was thinking about it for a while. I've decided to use one or two of the 9 or 10 carry boxes I have out in the shed.

Right now, I'm thinking I'll refurb an old Craftsman 14.5" tool box with removable tray and another 16" Union box with hinged tray that I have and bring them into the house and stick them in the closet. I'll just use them for some screwdrivers, wrenches, a socket set, hammer, nails, screws, etc. Just some misc. household stuff to keep me from having to run to the shed every time I need something.

I'm about to tear down the lean-to attached to my shed and build a 20'x10' storage shed in its place. Once that's done, my ol' lady can reclaim the office I handed over to her for a workout room. I have no room in the shed, and the toolbox has been over capacity for YEARS. The desk in that office is piled with tools, as well as two full totes. She's not really happy about it at the moment.

In one of my bedrooms, I have set up a few nonconventional furnishings:
I have one marble top table (scrounged from an old lab) with a workstation set up for small repairs, gun cleaning and electrical work. This table has a Kennedy Machinist Cabinet. I have another lab table in the room with my Wilson Hardness Tester. This table has another Machinist cabinet (for the different anvils and test coupons for the tester). Can you tell I am "batching it"?

^^X2 :rocker:

Mine's a Gerstner and was part of SWMBFAO's grandfather's estate. I use it for my "stuff" (pocket knives, watches, tie tacks, ....).

...there's also a watchmaker's repair cabinet in the dining room with all of the original tools in it. It belonged to SWMBFAO's great grandfather (includes the lathe as well:thumbup:).

I the first apartment my wife and I rented in 1964, I had a military surplus Kennedy Kit, the only place we had room for it was in the Bathroom.
Later it was replaced by a Waterloo box from JC Penney. That served me until I was able to buy a slightly damaged Craftsman Chest from Sears Outlet Store.
I now have a US General from Harbor Freight.

I have worked in the technology industry for 30 years. One thing that was hard for me to understand was, old parts, were just that, old parts.
I use to pack them along with me, for years.
An example, I had plastic bins full of 50’ cat5 lines, brand new, never used.
Personally I have been wireless for 20 years. I had no use for Cat5 cables.
I had 15-20 graphics cards. Mother Boards, and chassis.
I finally realized I will never use these parts.
I had a garage sale, I sold the Cat5 50’ sections, for $5 ea. I made around $150 just off the Cat 5. All the video cards I sold for $50 takes all. I no longer keep old PC /Laptop parts, there is no market for them.
Everyone wants the latest and greatest.

I had a Cosctco CPRS stainless top and bottom box in my bedroom for years. My dresser was also painted to look like a craftsman box. It was fairly useful as all of the tools were in a convenient place right next to the desk. Eventually I found a place with a garage and it went to a proper place.

Since this old thread came back, my wife no longer has the card file I mentioned in post #15. She has a CM 9 drawer machinist's chest mounted inside cabinets. It locks and has those 9 shallow drawers for lots of wifey things.

About 20 yrs ago I had all red Craftsman tool boxes, drawer workbenches as house furniture. Computer desk, stereo rack, dressers etc. Probably 7-8 pieces, most custom modified. Tastes change, it's all gone now, but It was a functional yet very cool look. Only have one pic, it's a workbench with drawers as a dresser (bottom of photo), with a modified (shortened and reduced the depth) 2nd bench on top as a bookcase.b3copy.jpg

I find it's good save things but I also try to do a once-yearly purge and either toss, give away, or sell things I haven't needed over the last year. About the only PC parts I still save are 12v fans and the occasional power supply if I have another project in mind.

My "house toolbox" is my old Craftsman top/bottom combo which is in the basement next to the water heater. Just my extra odds and ends tools to save me from going out to the garage in a rainstorm or when it's ten below zero in the winter.

Mobile prep table for years until I moved to Manhattan and tried to bring it with me. Thankfully Costco took it back.
