yeah, I have a pretty extensive tool set up and im only 22. Ive only been buying and researching tools since I was 18. my first box was a used SO classic 78. then I bought a used SS top for it then a hutch for it. I also bought a classic 60 off Clist at $900 and then I sold that to the SO dealer for a $1100 truck credit. I had the classic 60 for 2 weeks. I traded my four wheeler for the loaded orange Mac Tech 1000. two Halloweens ago I bought a used double matco that was super full of snap on tools from clist for $1000. and sold the box in less than a week for $800 and kept all the tools. I got the big red Mac box when I traded a guy the black classic 78 with the SS top and the Hutch plus $1000. and ive done all of this in a little under 4 years..............

And if you use time value of money (I couldn't find a good online calc for weekly payments and had to dig out my financial calc) it indeed works out to 18% (17.95% if we're splitting hairs) based on the worksheet info... but would only be 12% paying 4x as much monthly.

You can bolt two triple bays together. That's not an issue. Like I said in previous post 84 epiq plus power top, power can, hutch and led lights for 11. That's almost 8-9k off. No trade in

My advice would be to wait till you are done your school. See where you end up working full time. Then you'll know what kind of a box will work the best. I have a Snapon box bought a piece at a time and I waited till the deal came along and the 9.9 interest rate too. I don't regret it at all. I have one big box so when I go home at the end of the day all my tools are locked in it. It's still portable but it's a lot stronger than any other box I have seen. The guys going on about HF sound to me like they buy on price alone. That does not work as a pro.
If you get a chance go into HF and try the drawers on the big cabinets. They are very nice. The little cabinets are not near as nice.

A full time tech working on heavy equipment would kill a Garbo freight box. He already has truck brand boxes. Why downgrade?
...or buy the tools at HF vs. the truck and use all the savings to get SO Mr. Big.

Are you trading in some of your boxes or all of your boxes?? did you ask what you need to do to get a better
interest rate like under 10% I would do it I don't think that new tool box is going to be big enough. figure out in your head each drawer all the tools you have. maybe you can get rid of the bigger drawers and put a few more small one's in when you go to order it. I think if you wait the rock and roll truck will be back and make you a better deal. try to clean up your tool boxes and put some wax on them you will get more money.

18% is worse than credit card money. Prime is 3.25%. Banks are borrowing from the Fed at 0.75%. Unless you've declared bankruptcy in the past week, I would never buy from that dealer again, he is trying to **** you.
Agreed. If the guy is going to wrench full time eventually, and has to means to fund it, buy the box/tools you want.

18% is normal for snap on. 9 percent for great. 28 for bad. If I rmeber right it gets charged once a year for interest

Rock and roll truck can't make any better deals than a normal dealer can, except custom boxes and colors he can waive those fees, everything else price, trade in amount is all up to the dealer, rebate ammount is handles by SO credit

I'm 99% sure SEP wont include a Mr. Big, nor any EPIQ...I also think theres a max limit on how much you can save. Same for MAC...does not cover the Macsimizer.

If your comparing the HF Drawers to what you see at Sears, Home Depot and Lowes, sure...they are nicer. But you could crush down and fold that 44 or 56" and put it in the top drawer of a KRL or Macsmizer and they would still be more sturdy and slide better then the HF.
Buy what you want.. I got a 35k tractor to play in the dirt on my 2.5 Acres, and another 15k ******* in a Commercial Mower to cut said grass...some say its foolish, much like the people saying here the SO/MAC is foolish, but in the end, I didnt buy/get/acquire what I have because it meets someone else's expections of life..it meets MY Expectations. I will say though that the guys saying not to finance it are on the right track, try to pay for it up front...cheaper in the long haul when you actually BUY your stuff, not finance it. If you NEEDED it, fine..but when you WANT It...Save for it.
My only request...if you buy it, please send me pics! I've only seen some Classics in Tractor Green...never a KRL or EPIQ.

The SEP only covers Heritage and Classic series...not the Epiq or Masters series or their derivatives (unfortunately)

Given what OP has "horse traded" thus far to get nice toolboxes, I think this thread is somewhat goosechase as he probably has sweetheart deal lined up outside the SO dealer. OP at young age 22 seems plenty street smart to not go into deep debt that could cripple him if lost job. Dropping oil price not good news for Houston, TX area so no job is forever guaranteed.

You can get a 54 inch classic 78 from the snap on student program for about $2200 and you can get a triple bay Mac tech series for about $2400

Im amazed at how much people spend on boxes but that is not the point here. The larger picture here is you are still in school, with even more school to come.
Here is my advice, its probably not what you want to hear. Really sit down, and evaluate what tools you really need. Which tools have you not used in months? How many duplicates do you have etc etc. Sell the stuff you really dont ever use (aside from specialty tools), work some extra hours for pops. Save it up.
Go buy a used box. Go to school, get a job and re-evaluate your tool storage situation. I was the same way as you, before I really understood debt. I wasted a lot of time and money paying my way out of debt. The worst part about it was all the **** I bought on credit wasn't worth anything anymore. Yes your snap on box will have some value if you ever decide to sell. I hated missing out on projects or buying cool parts because I had to pay a grand or more every month to keep my cc bill down. In the end, I personally feel better not owing anyone any money. That feeling is better than any new item purchase. Best advice i've finally adhered to was "If I dont have the cash, I cant afford it." My rule of thumb is if I cant have it paid off in a month, I can't have it. Good luck op

For those saying that the Snap On 18% rate isn't actually the correct rate, that is INCORRECT. Considering we are giving the parameters, the $99.78 weekly payment for 156 weeks (3 years), open excel and type =rate(156,99.78,-12012,0) to get 0.35%, which is weekly. Multiply that by 52, the number of weeks (since the above calc is based on weekly terms) and you get your annual rate, 17.9985%

Personally, I see NO advantage. Id pick up another "normal" sized box to go with your current setup......push them all together and just pretend they are green.
Actually I see a big downside to one big vs a few smaller boxes. Portability. No way you could move that big box around.....but you could organize your smaller boxes in a way that if you were working on specific tasks you could move that particular box closer to the work area.

BUT makes the decision easier..looks like I'll get a good ol fashioned Red KRSC...
Doesn't surprise me really...they were colors nobody talked about except those "in the know". Even my normal route driver had said he'd seen/heard of the JD Green but thought it was a one time special type thing. I was actually on the RnR truck to customize an Extreme Green one...
If I could have gotten the Tractor Green for the price I had been quoted for a normal red one, I probably would have pulled the trigger on the RnR truck.
I Wanted The Green Color, Wanted the Red Price...when it doubt, do nothing is my motto.
