I have a friend who is a self employed carpenter he uses cardboard boxes and plastic paint pails in his Durango. He chucks everything in and drives to the next job, pulls out what he needs and repeats the performance at the end of the job. He does not believe in wasting money on tool boxes or any tool that is not absolutely necessary. He build amazing kitchen cabinets from scratch, frames and trims houses with no more than $2000 worth of tools. His approach is if he can't get it at the place he buys his material or Canadian Tire then he doesn't need it.

Mind you his skill level is amazing.

I bought my two boys one of these each from Lowes for Christmas last year. They are large, heavy duty ABS, and seal like no other. Also the clasps are serious business. I had to open the box for my 11 year old the first couple times until he figured out leverage. I bought them with the intention, that this was a trail run to see how well they cared fro their tools and the possibilities that these boxes might get left outside in the rain, or used and a bench to beat on, etc.... Fortunately, they haven't abused them in that way, but that is what sold me on them. I'm planning on buying a couple for me just to use as "trade" boxes for trade specific tools I don't use much. Oh, and the Name label in the front is removable. I had name plate made for each box. But you could also use it to label contents if you have more than one box.

That's intresting you mention the name plate as the stanley have there's with the fatmax logo on it u can take off as well my guess is its easier that way than makeing it part of the mold. I ask because I was doing some skirting and door hanging on a job and noticed the other tradesmens tool boxes and the lack of care they seemed to show there tools. Mine will last me a life time well some perhaps I still use a few things past down from my grand farther planes etc. But work like that I'd rather keep them safe and out of harm's way as theres a lot of ahem borrowing that goes on I caught some chap cutting plaster board with my saw thankfully it was an old one but still. Mabie as children they weren't shown to respect things who knows. U admit it can be a hassel cleaning things down but at least twice a week a sharpen all my chisels and plane blades and just give them some Tlc for the next week. Haveing good well maintained tools makes the job run a lit smoother I have to say.
