Good evening gents. I have been thinking about portable storage for insulated and precision tools. I really am not too impressed with most soft sided tool bags for this purpose or in general for that matter. The pockets are almost always too short and things fall out or in the case of bags like the Veto LC they are designed to have multiple tools per pocket. That is a no go for me with the types of tools I am describing. You cannot have them banging around against other tools.
So how about aliminium tool cases or even molded cases as long as they are rigid? I have seen some of those "technician" type cases(think briefcase/luggage look) and they are quite expensive and to be frank, the pallets they provide are not that well made. And they are almost always sized for precision tools only. So I am thinking a somewhat universal aluminum case with made up pallets or holders or....? I was looking at this Knipex case but it seems a bit light on holders for more robust tools. And it is north of $175 in most instances. I like how it opens for access. Not sure about ruggedness though. In fairness these tools are not usually used in rough environments. But I do need portability. How about retasking one of those makeup cases beauticians use? Some of them have a top opening and two doors that swing away in front to expose all the product. Maybe, maybe not? I have included a photo of the Knipex bag/ case.
