Tool Case For Precision & Insulated Tools

Good evening gents. I have been thinking about portable storage for insulated and precision tools. I really am not too impressed with most soft sided tool bags for this purpose or in general for that matter. The pockets are almost always too short and things fall out or in the case of bags like the Veto LC they are designed to have multiple tools per pocket. That is a no go for me with the types of tools I am describing. You cannot have them banging around against other tools.

So how about aliminium tool cases or even molded cases as long as they are rigid? I have seen some of those "technician" type cases(think briefcase/luggage look) and they are quite expensive and to be frank, the pallets they provide are not that well made. And they are almost always sized for precision tools only. So I am thinking a somewhat universal aluminum case with made up pallets or holders or....? I was looking at this Knipex case but it seems a bit light on holders for more robust tools. And it is north of $175 in most instances. I like how it opens for access. Not sure about ruggedness though. In fairness these tools are not usually used in rough environments. But I do need portability. How about retasking one of those makeup cases beauticians use? Some of them have a top opening and two doors that swing away in front to expose all the product. Maybe, maybe not? I have included a photo of the Knipex bag/ case.

Let me say after looking things over at Knipex's site that case will hold full sized tools. It may actually be tougher to organise precision tools in it.

I would probably get an empty case and just cut foam inserts to your liking as I was thinking about doing this with my tap and die sets but cut to fit in the drawert of my toolbox

Wow Holt! Thanks for sharing that. The "technician" cases like that are very expensive but when you are dealing with insulated and precision tools you have to keep them clean and undamaged. Aside from the good carrying case, the number one rule of insulated tools is to let no one else use yours!
