I don't think there's enough money in the world to be a tool man. Too much competition from other brands, online tool stores (for all of those rebadged tools), and ebay. Not too mention, the deadbeats that try to skip.
However, I've seen dealers over the years that ranged from one extreme to the other. I had a Matco guy that wouldn't even get out of the truck unless it was to chase down a tech that owed him money. Techs would flock to his truck though. I once had a corporate Snap on dealer that had a tote tray that was shaped like a tool truck. He would tote and promote new tools and specials in it often through the shop. I really miss him. Now retired, I think he could have easily sold ice to eskimos.
The Cornwell dealers I've had over the years have been some of the nicest people. However, I've never had one that lasts more than a year. I have built a relationship with a dealer that stops near our facility. He has new tools on display as you enter his truck.
A lot of the dealer's actions depends on how he's received on his route. Some places will only let the tool truck on the premises during lunch. That doesn't provide much time for demos. Of course many tool truck brands sell themselves by just showing up. Some techs would buy a turd if it had the right brand stamped on it.
