Here we go again. GJ members are pretty good at choosing the right tools for the job except when it comes to drawer liners. In this case it's almost anything but the right tool for the job. Lets see we have:
- Carpet/Underlayment
- Exercise mats
- Stall mats
- Used conveyor belts
- Foam
- Treadmill belts
- Used mud flaps
- Liners that involve gluing down

When all else fails order a roll of PVC tool box drawer liner from Nu Source. It's thin which means more storage, it doesn't slip, it's tough, it's pretty cheap in bulk and is as good, or the same, as the stuff SO uses in their KRL boxes.

OK carry on:bounce:

the above are words of sanity.

I've been using drawer liner from Nu-Source for a few years and it works great. I've used quite a few other materials in the past; commercial carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet, various rubber belts, carpet underlayment, Raptor Grab, foam, that worthless mesh type **** from various vendors, felt, and even cork (why even bother with a liner). I even lined one of my Gerstner boxes with Nu-Source liner.

I have found a couple of applications where other products work better. Old school lower boxes that have that useless, waste of space black hole in the bottom because the manufacturer was too cheap to install drawers. . . oops, I meant to say bottom storage compartment. I have found that yoga mats or some sort of thick rubber mats work well in these "storage compartments".

Nu-Source mats move around a little in boxes with wrinkle paint. Kennedy boxes are the major offenders. I use Raptor Grab liner in Kennedy boxes that have wrinkle paint. It's not quite as sticky, but it is stiffer. The stiffness prevents the liner from shifting.

Just wanted to bump this dusty thread to thank Davefr for this post. I just got done lining drawers on a couple of Vidmar cabinets with NSI Materials SL35B. Great quality stuff, looks identical to what came new in my KRL roll cab 30 years ago. No affiliation with any vendor or anything like that, just glad I chased down a high quality product so I only have to line these drawers once.

That very valid point, I seen a guys expensive tools in quite a mess from moisture and chemical tarnishing from using floor/underlay products .
NSI is a nice product with 2 tack levels and while not super cheap it is pretty acceptable cost for a quality solution ...

Ribbed floor runners. By the foot from Lowes but HD probably has them too. Seems to hold up fine to solvents. I like the spray adhesive idea someone mentioned but I just cut mine to size and then use a heat gun to get them to lose the curl. Not padded like some of the suggestions here but I've never really liked the tradeoff of padding vs drawer depth in my over stuffed toolboxes.

From Lowes, Kobalt Zerust drawer liner.
Thin material. These are in stacked Kennedy rollers. They've stayed flat on the drawer bottom through the past couple of years, no complaints.
