That's very cool. First one I have seen. If I had one of those, I'd be tempted to finally go through my wood-handled screwdriver collection and go to work on the tips. Thank you for posting it.

I’ve never seen one. I like it. If I had it I would swear that one day I would fix all my worn screwdrivers. Twenty years later it would be in a box at the estate sale.

It does not appear to be a One of a Kind tool. They must have made more. But this may be the only one to survive. I'll be watching to see if anybody else has ever seen this tool.

Certainly a rarity. Good on you for saving it.

The two drilled holes are of different diameter
I like the slopes that are cut/filed/punched in to check the tip thickness

That is what I was thinking as well. Looks like something on a quality control line.

Check the two holes with Phillips tips, even though the gauge is for flat tips.

Actually, it reads "STANDARD SCREW DRIVERS FOR SHOP USE." I'm not sure how that changes the meaning, or the purpose, if at all, which is still a matter of interpretation to begin with, but it could.

My guess for "T.R." would be Tool Room. With "2ND FLOOR" implying multiple floors, and "NO. 1 BUILDING" implying multiple buildings, if it's a screwdriver factory, it is a dang big one.

Another possibility is it's a big factory of some other kind and the guide is associated with maintaining the tips of screwdrivers used in the shop and kept in the tool room on the 2nd floor of building No. 1.

One of my earlier jobs required each of us to do "tool room" duty on a rotation basis, and one of our duties when we pulled tool room duty was to do things like sharpen bits, regrind & reprofile screwdrivers, etc.. Since most of what we worked with were relics from the 190's and 30's, keeping flathead screwdrivers in shape (so you didn't waller out screw heads) was kinda vital.
