Hello All,
I am hoping to soon be a home owner, and had a couple questions. I am looking to set up a couple tool kits for various needs. I hope to put together a plumbing set, and an electrical set. I have general carpentry set(I am a carpenter). So I am wondering what you guys have for those needs?
Thanks

As a homeowner I've put everything into trade-specific kits too. There are common hand tools like screwdrivers, utility knives, and pliers in each - sure it means a lot of duplicates but it also means a lot less running around. I'm also getting in the habit of buying an extra of common items (receptacles, fasteners, valves, copper fittings, etc.) when I need to replace them to avoid special trips to the store in the future.

I separated low voltage tools and supplies from electrical for things like Cat5, coax, etc. into a kit of its own. Electrical tools are in one box and there are a couple of others for metal boxes, EMT fittings, devices, trim plates, connectors, and so on.

Also separated drywall from carpentry to try to contain the mess a little. Rotozip and screwgun are in one box while handtools are in another.

All of my painting gear is in a large Rubbermaid tote except for the 4' extension handle, 18" roller frame and tray.

All of my PPE is currently in a couple of small Rubbermaid totes so it's easy to get to and stays clean.

I do the same. If i get enough "specialized" tools for a task they go in their own kit.

For plumbing:

PVC primer and glue
Copper tube cutter
utility knife
sandpaper
various fittings and cutoff valves to fit random things in the house - pvc and copper
wire pvc saw
Solder / flux / torch
small brush for flux

I've got a plumbing box, a fencing box, an electrical box and a "house" box. The house box has TV cable fittings, strippers and crimpers, phone line crimpers, connectors for both, a stud finder, drywall anchors and other stuff I almost only use in the house.

I made a "Wife box" that stays in the house. It's full of crappy screw drivers, side cutters that didn't know they were about to cut a hot wire (cutters fault, not mine), crooked hammer that misses nails and a stud finder that is a liar.

Everything else is lost on my workbench because someone broke in and moved my stuff.
