"Scratch awl" might be a better term for unhardened scriby things. For softer materials like wood, plastic, etc. I tend to use mine as a pick and the carbide scribe for marking. If I need fine marks on wood or plastic, I use a knife. It has been my understanding that the tool on the left is a scribe, having a hardened point instead of the point on the pick has.
Me too. That’s another good reason to always carry a knife. A man never knows when he might have to cut something. Or make a fine line on a piece of wood or plastic prior to sawing. If I need fine marks on wood or plastic, I use a knife.
How the hell do folks who don't EDC a sharp knife deal with modern packaging? That’s another good reason to always carry a knife.

Mine's also a Benchmade... just about forty years older than yours.
They rip it off with their teeth, because that's what real man do!How the hell do folks who don't EDC a sharp knife deal with modern packaging?
That's funny--those are nearly identical to the Ullman set, except for the anodizing and the individual handles. The one second from right is what I use 90% of the time for removing o-rings.
