Two out of three Snap-on drivers that I've just walked up to their truck have been really great. The other one seemed like he really didn't care to deal with me because I wasn't going to buy a whole lot. I've had good luck walking up to Mac and Matco trucks also. The good thing around here is that there are more then just one of each type of tool truck. So you don't like the guy in the truck just find another. I just walk into car dealer's service dept. and ask what day the Tool trucks show up , none of them seem to mind you asking.I saw a Snap On truck yesterday by a Great Bear auto shop that's close to my house. I wanted to stop, but I don't know or use the shop and have never dealt with the driver/owner of the truck.
I wanted to pick up a few wrenches that I need that I don't want to buy from their online store hoping to avoid fees and shipping.
Saw an ooollldd cornwell truck on the 101 yesterday in Glendale. We’re talking just like I bought off of40yrs ago. I was bummed I couldn’t grab a picture in time.Monday night, saw a Snap-On truck headed northbound on Scottsdale Rd. Saw Cornwall a year or so ago.
Several years ago I saw an S-K truck around in Salem, Virginia.Would be cool to see an "Independent" loaded up with Proto, SK, Lang, and Wright tools.
I've seen a SO truck at my tire/alignment guys shop in Cary - wonder if that's him. Almost stopped last time, and decided that would be a bad idea...
I was in Rocky Mount today and saw a big sign on the door to a body shop: No Tool Trucks Allowed.Wish we still had that SK truck Ricky Joe mentioned above. Maybe he was just passing thru too possibly. All together I wish we had more trucks. It’s mostly Snap-on and Matco in this area seen multiples of each. Have two Mac trucks and 0 Cornwell or SK or Gearwrench to my knowledge. At least I have access to all of those big 3 trucks though just wish more stopped by my work.
That’s weird. Glad I don’t work there I’d put a huge one out saying all tool trucks welcome here. LolI was in Rocky Mount today and saw a big sign on the door to a body shop: No Tool Trucks Allowed.
That's pretty funny - my guess is it's a big time-waster when guys are on the clock and have work to move down the line...I was in Rocky Mount today and saw a big sign on the door to a body shop: No Tool Trucks Allowed.
Thank you for the window into Cornwell. We used to have a regular Cornwell dealer. He went over to Gearwrench. I can get Gearwrench for distributor pricing so not much reason for me to not only pay above retail BUT tool truck premium on top of that for it. The thing he had going for him when he was with Cornwell was the Cornwell sales fliers are typically decently priced and were lots of pages of stuff you could use unlike the handful of pages that Matco and Snap On have (and half of theirs is overpriced **** like sunglasses and junk for the house). The actual Cornwell made in the USA line also was a good bit cheaper than the equivalent from the others
you aren’t missing anything off a Cornwell truck. Buy Wright, Williams and Proto instead. Cornwell themselves makes nice tools but it’s all industrial grade stuff meaning good quality but less innovation. Most of the stuff on their truck is going to offshore relabeled stuff (the Bluepower line, their diag stuff, air tools) or third party stuff you can literally get anywhere else for cheaper.
oh and after he went Gearwrench then left we had a new Cornwell dealer drop by and started coming last year, he dropped us after a while because nobody was trusting of Cornwell sticking around.
Yep, had that problem when I had the shop. Warning the techs and tool guys about BSing for a half hour on the truck didn't seem to help much, I ended up threatening them to get results. I'm a little surprised about the sign on the bodyshop door, I thought most body guys were flatrate. That's pretty funny - my guess is it's a big time-waster when guys are on the clock and have work to move down the line...
I don't claim to understand the dynamics of working in a shop, esp. at flatrate, but even when it's their own money I can see how hanging with the tool guy and BS'ing with the others while doing it could be an easy habit to get into, and when it's the difference between the customer getting back their car and the card getting swiped, I'd think the shop has problems at that point.Yep, had that problem when I had the shop. I'm sorry, I was addressing redneck welder, and that I thought I knew who he was talking about. I work and live in northern Virginia, there was a long time Cornwell guy who had his franchise pulled a few years ago. I have a few things I bought from him a long time ago. He now drives the gearwrench truck around here. I work in sterling. I have seen the "new" Cornwell guy in Manassas and sterling, his name is Max. We have a matco truck that comes by as well as snap-on. I have seen a Mac truck in Manassas regularly but I don't have his info. You lost me on this one. I did see a Matco truck close to Gainesville,VA turning off of US. 29.
Thank you for the explanation. Have a good day, postman.I'm sorry, I was addressing redneck welder, and that I thought I knew who he was talking about. No but it would not suprise me for there to be plenty of others that have done so. Softailgarage here was a Cornwell dealer briefly before it went down in flames and he said he wished he had gone Gearwrench and they would have wrapped his truck for free. Was the Cornwell guy that went to gearwrench in northern Virginia, and his name starts with an R?
