Last fall when I was getting ready to install the Kenne Bell supercharger on my wife's 96 Cobra, I decided to splurge and buy a set of Mac 1/4" drive metric sockets to make the job that much easier. I bought a set of six-point deeps and twelve-point shallows. Since most of the fasteners on the top of a Ford DOHC engine are 6, 8, 11 or 13, the new stuff came in very handy and I was really impressed with the quality improvement over my old Craftsman stuff.

Fast forward to now. I'm getting ready to swap out the AOD transmission in my 93 5.0 for a T-5, so I decided that this occasion deserves some new tools as well. To that end, I took delivery of a set of Mac 3/8" metric sockets today. Again, six-point deeps and twelve-point shallows, in 6mm through 19mm. The deep set is Mac's new Edge stuff with ridges on three of the flat faces, very much like Snappy's Flank Drive wrenches. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but the finish, heft and feel of them compared to the Craftsman tools is much nicer.

Some pictures for your consideration:

As you can see, they also fill out the socket tray very nicely.:bounce:

Nice photos. What kind of camera?
I bought 5 sets of Stanley "Non-Slip" metric 3/8"dr short 6pt sockets on ebay for $5 each.
They are Taiwan sockets, but look and feel very nice. They have the same "ribbed" design, but on all 6 flats. Probably too much of a good thing.
I bought them as flea market fodder, but they look and feel so nice (much nicer than current Craftsman), I am tempted to keep a set.

Olympus E500 DSLR. A little bit of cleanup with Photoshop Elements and a resize to a usable dimension. Shiney things are hard to photograph well.

Very nice!

I would be buying a 20mm in each, though, to fill up that tray.

I thought about that, but I don't ever recall having a need for a 20. 21 and 23 once or twice, but never a twenty.:headscrat

Forget the 20mm

I have yet to use a 20mm in 15 years of semi-pro mechanicing. You would be better off to snip the pegs and store your swivel there.

Or buzz off the "20" and store 21s on them.

I recently needed a 20mm open end wrench to change out a fuel filter. I sure as hell am not gonna buy a 20mm open end wrench to change a fuel filter on a car that I will probably only keep another 5 months, so I used my Channellock adjustable :shocking: and it worked surprisingly well!

My 21mm 3/8" sockets live on the 20mm Hansen peg. The 20 is the only size I don't have.

Exactly. So if you put 20s on there, where are you going to keep your 21s?
Sometimes I wonder about those Hansen folks.

I picked up a set of the 3/8 Mac Edge sockets a few weeks ago, and I too was impressed with the quality. Then I came into a real problem, and figured I'd put them to the test. I had a bolt that was ground at a 45 degree angle, such that only half of the hex was even there anymore. Channel locks didn't work. Wrenches didn't work. Mac Edge - worked right away. Awesome stuff, I'm going to complete my collection soon.
