This 1971 KRA-59A served me well in my work truck for many years. I scraped all the old oilfield decals off & reinstalled the Snap-on badge. It’s time to clean her up for the shop now.

They definitely appear to take a beating and real-world use pretty well!

I think I may have found the next box I'm buying. I see a lot of modern (and typically large) Snap On and Mac (as well as Matco) boxes, but rarely old ones.

I like that drawer layout better. The '80s Craftsman 27" or so top box I have in the garage is what I'd call a machinist's layout due to the deep "manual" drawer in the middle. Fine for notepads, small parts on blister cards, and the various little "cheat sheet" cards and manuals I've picked up over the years, but I think having an extra, shallow drawer instead of one deep drawer is better.

Also, the cover is something I like too. In addition to being more secure, it keeps a lot of debris out of my box.

Clean it up a bit and hit it with some satin clearcoat... Awesome patina!

Here's an old pic after doing a minor restoration. Mine bounced around on mine roads and has some pretty decent bruises but all the drawers are fine. It had one boo boo from an inept forklift operator. The original nameplate and handle fell off over time and were forever lost. So those have been replaced. The lock and linkage are original.
I believe I lightly wet sanded it with 2000 grit and diluted simple green. Gotta be careful with that stuff, it will take paint off. After washing that down, it got polished with Klasse All in One and followed with Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze.
Of course, the drawers got removed and the slides cleaned and waxed.
I love boxes with battle scars. It gives them character and I'm not worried about actually using it.
The old Snap-on orangey red is a personal favorite.
