Been running in batch mode this week after work machining multiples of the various brackets and parts. There's the 1/2" setup.

Machining process optimization occurs when I cut stuff in batches. Tweaks to depth of cut, speeds/feeds, and even attempts to figure out how to fixture multiples in 2 vises. By the time I'm done, I've usually figured out the most optimal way. An example is illustrated below: I've figured out how to fixture and machine the base slot machining process with 3 per vise. This optimizes setup time, reduces tooling changes, and increases the amount of machining that can be done unattended in a single operation.

Sometimes I also refine the design. In this case, I noticed that the 1/4" brackets, when loaded with extensions, had enough space below to allow for a second level of extensions.

By a few simple tweaks to the machining process I was able to quickly test the idea during the run to see if it was viable or not. I think, in this case, the idea makes a lot of sense. Will need a completed one before I can say if accessing an extension beneath another is cumbersome or not.

Wrapped up machining the socket extension rack machining last night while reviewing next steps on my super charger install on my Jeep. Fun being able to feed the CNC material and let it plug away. Goal was to make enough pieces and parts to set up my rolling tool cart, my bench, and have enough left over to make two racks - one for for each of my kids when they get a house. By my count, I have enough.

Here’s some final picks if a completed 1/4” extension organizer going together with the over/under storage featuee

May take some use before I get the most functional setup.

space utilization is much better than I had anticipated.

That’s a wrap. Thanks for following along. 🍺
