Years back when I owned a wrecking yard in PDX, I pried open the trunk of an impounded vehicle and found a snap on tool box full of tools. It took two of us just to lift it out.

Found a few.

Someone left a file under the hood in Mom's car.

One mechanic left a Vise Grip under the hood of her car too. I returned it because I know the guy. Said he had been looking for it.

Working under my truck a vintage S-K large green flat blade screwdriver rolled out along with a big green chestnut some squirrel stored up there.

I've found wrenches & screwdrivers. In a junkyard looking for parts I found a BUCK knife in the leather holster. Was like brand new.

I found a Snap-On 1 7/16" impact socket tucked in a crevice of a KW. Found a 1/2" Snap-On wrench still attached to a bolt under a truck. I looked up the last service done and it came in from Texas. Couldn't believe it made it that far still attached. Last one I found was a 1/4" Matco ratchet laying in the frame rail of a truck.

Just the other day-long handle snap on chrome 1/4 ratchet with a 13mm shallow on it. I snapped that up quick.

Also found the following:
-1/4 snap on flex head ratchet
-Various hammers, chisels, screwdrivers
-Vise grips (still attached to the tie rod lol)
-Snap on scanner (I brought it back to them, felt REALLY bad they lost it)
-Tire iron
-Cheapy flashlight
-Mac pry bar

We had one of our work trucks getting a trailer hitch and wiring installed at one of the local trailer shops. When we went to hook up a trailer I saw a super expensive set of automatic wire strippers lying on the bumper. I knew where they had come from so I drove back over and as I was walking up to the shop a guy saw me and came running out saying thank you, thank you, I have been looking all over for those.

How about a 6D Mag Lite between the rudder pedals of a Citation?

Yeah. That's what I thought too...

Just found a puck light with light still barely on. Batteries were nearly dead. It was on the impeller drum on a Lexion combine. Also a drill bit and some extra nuts and bolts.

I R&R lots of Radiators. I often find tools between the Rad and condenser. Most are Dollar store junk. I did find a SO 13mm deep impact socket once.

I wish I could find the ones I left in there that fell out somewhere. I use to do a few VW Bugs and the first thing off and the last thing on was the muffler. Nice little shelf there where the roll pan splits the tailpipes. Too nice as I've left a few tools on that nice little shelf.

When I lose tools like I have my mule come a long, kershaw ,stryker light ,etc, I just try to think of how good the guy finding it will feel. It helps hide the pain.

Found a pair of vise grips holding a muffler bracket one time .Welded the bracket and threw the grips in the bed of his truck.

I slowed next to a guy on the highway 2 days ago, Yelled that his compressor ( big dam compressor)had come loose on his gooseneck and was moving around at will. Nothing to keep it from falling off. He looked back and saw the strap hanging and nearly ****. That could have easily killed someone.

It didn't happen to be a Buck 110 under the seat of a '66 Impala did it?

Found a few shredded cats under the hoods of my own and friend's cars during the winter... no tools so far, at least that weren't my own.

I did find a half dozen tools on top of the roof of a car I bought and towed home once, a few really nice US made tools... returned them to the owner, I know how I would feel if the tAbles were turned and they were my tools. I was just glad they didn't fall off the car during the tow and ruin someone behind me's day! :(

In the past year I've found...

-channel locks in an escalator truss
-wago tweaker screwdriver in an escalator controller (from the factory)
-craftsman screwdriver on an elevator rail bracket
- a pair of linemans in the pit of a 9 story elevator in new construction (I returned them to the electrician who dropped them and made sure he was aware that we were working there and he could easily have dropped them onto my head. I found him on the 4th floor.)

One of my buddies in customer service was present when the techs striping down a CAT C32 engine found a 9/16" wrench in the bottom of the oil pan. They let him keep it, made a great story piece.

Many years ago my Dad had a 64 Ford pickup. He started it up one morning and let it warm up while he put out some dog food. He noticed flashing under the front and opened the hood to find a timing light. the truck had just been tuned up at the local Gulf station and the mechanic was glad to get his timing light back.

Years ago I found a Snap-on ratcheting screwdriver sitting in the cowling of a Navajo that I used to fly. I was about 300 miles from my home base.....needed to open up the cowl to see what they were trying to take!

-A pair of Knipex Alligators in a GEN2 safety plank
-Lots of wrenches doing escalator clean downs
-A 7/16 Blackhawk deep socket in the bottom of an 80 1/2 UCLS

My favorite prybar ,I found in 1981.
I found my favorite prybar under the hood of my sister-in-law's car, right where I left it a couple of months earlier when I last worked on it. :)

I once found a Snap-on 1/4" drive, 5/16" swivel socket under the hood of a car. Perfect for stainless steel hose clamps which it was probably used for.

Another time more recently I found a telescoping magnet under the hood of my sister's car. Although I do nearly all of the work on it, she had recently taken it in for smog certification. Since I could trace the ownership, I actually returned it to the shop.
