I'm sure you can get a better price when you deal directly to Koken Japan and buy a bundle of Koken tools. You have a big tools shop why not try to ask Koken authorized dealer:thumbup:

Irega is the Koken distribuitor in Spain.
Though I speak with Koken, they tell me to talk to IREGA.
But I will try. :)

My set of ratchets, old world as well as Asia and North America:

- Hazet 916-1 (available for purchase in Costa Rica, in fact I bought it here, no waiting). I always use to repair my car, the highest quality in my opinion, in fact, when I was a kid my father had a truck repair shop, and I always saw as many high quality ratchets (SNAPON, Williams and the old cratfsman) stopped working, were repaired, but sometimes they were so useless (due to abuse of course) that ended up welding to make them "improvised handles" :shocking: In contrast, the hazet ratchets always supported the work regardless of the abuse they sometimes receive
- Wera Zyklop 1/2, I once read that is manufactured in the Czech Republic (not sure if someone can confirm this, I appreciate that), but definitely a German design  (great, accurate, intelligent, jajajaja, I think I was clear), I bought it last year taking advantage of an offer on Amazon ($ 60)
- FORCE 1/2 (Taiwan) in the beginning, when the brand was introduced to the Costa Rican market for about 7 or 8 years, I had my doubts, but after my father bought one of these along with a set of sockets (type torx) to repair his Renault, and is still running after seeing my dad use it in conjunction with a bar to exert more force like a torque wrench or a breaker bar :eyecrazy: :lol_hitti, convinced me that this brand is worth (provides acceptable quality and low price)
- Craftsman ratchets (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2) regardless of the times, the Craftsman offering based on a balance between price, quality and warranty always make it one of my favorite options.

I really like this Thor copper hammer! Looks like tool for a life.

Thanks, I haven't had it that long myself as I bought it secondhand (can't remember exactly what I paid for it now but I'm sure it wasn't more than a couple of pounds) but its certainly a keeper.
Its seen some action before I got it and I can't see any reason why it can't see a lot more to come.

no-one knows... It is shame that Beta do not put COO on their tools. I got double tools that one has "Italy" on them but other does not, desing is same.
Usually "Italy" is kind of brand, like "Germany" and do not understand why would they leave it out.

yeah me too :) Buy both and let me know which one is better :) ;)

Buying both is over €60! :eyecrazy: We'll see, they're on the list but not so high...

Looks really good now in your new box , i remember your old storage in different bins + boxes :) But now it looks much more comfortable to use if everything is located in one place

Yeah, the old solution was ok to work with but took too much space and some things was hard to reach. Needs some good wrench and socket organisation before this is top though.

looks good to me !
On the other hand some more Zyklops, flex head ratchets and rotary/rotator ratchets are missing :) ;)

Zyklop 1/4" is high on the list, and a flex head 1/2". More rotators than the Proxxon will probably not be bought for a while though. I remembered I have two ratchets not visible in the pic also. A 600mm 1/2" AmPro "breaker bar ratchet" and a 3/8" Biltema plastic body.

Used the 3/8" Facom a bit more today, and I definitely think it will be my new standard use rachet. Like it!

Where did you find the Palmera hammer ?

Nice!

I found my collection of Taiwan tools lacking. So I paid the Toptul dealer visit! He was in a good mood ...

@TjoFrasse and @Repairman - you have been busy, impressive collection!

Happy new year!

Nice Taiwan quality tools!

Thanks! It has cost a bit, and I'm still far from most people here...

My set of ratchets, old world as well as Asia and North America:

Nice! Very much 1/2" vs other sizes. What do you work on?

Got a Wera screwdriver today.

Double PH2? You trust Wera PH tip quality at least :)

Also picked up these this evening. :)

I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the Czek Wera screwdrivers, can a guy still get the German made ones???

You're a month late... Ash and I got a set from my local Woodcraft. Does anyone else have a source?

Double PH2? You trust Wera PH tip quality at least :)

One is phillips and the other is pozidriv. I decided to take a gamble on a Czech made wera as its the only pozi I could find here. Also of interest they had 2 in the shop and the colour of the tips were different shades of gold.

Lingonberry jam, great with some swedish style meatballs!

Will have to try that. :) BTW are you familiar with that brand?

Thanks. I have to admit that I prefer 1/2" to repair my car (I am no professional mechanic, just an enthusiast), because in my opinion it is more versatile for sedans and light trucks (pick ups).

However, I have also seen that the measure 3/8" performs very well at sedans.

My new acquisitions:

- IRWIN Toolbox 26" (I must admit I was surprised that was manufactured in the USA, and usually many IRWIN tools I've seen in the local market are manufactured in the Asian continent).
- Set of HAZET screwdrivers SPC 810/6, quality at a bargain price
- FORCE stubby screwdrivers (flat and phillips)
- Stanley pocket screwdriver (I've seen the same design on a large number of brands including MEGAPRO, so I think that is manufactured by the same company with some visual variants)
- PROTO Hammer (12oz), made in USA
- Finally, a FORCE 3/8" torque, with a range of 10-110 Nm

I used to be a pure 1/2" and 1/4" user, but when I came here and saw all the americans using 3/8" as a go to size I tried it and I like to use it much. 1/2" is still used for most stuff 19mm+ though.

Oh, yeah. You even posted the PZ tip... :Freak:

All my lazertip drivers have a consistent color. Can't really rate quality though, they haven't seen hard use. That's whats the chiseldrivers are for.

Will have to try that. :) BTW are you familiar with that brand?

Not familiar with the brand. Perhaps it is a known producer, but a export only brand. Lingonberry jam is a common condiment here, with many uses.

TjoFrasse, you're right, I started using 3/8" after seeing this forum and some local shops was commonly used. I must admit that maybe used to have the misperception that this size was weak for many jobs, but I realized that it is not, and instead offers versatility in terms of size.

In addition, most sets of 3/8" (sockets) come with measures ranging up to 19 mm (as you say ), and thus try to use 1/2" as when after the 20 - 21mm

I needed a reciprocating saw for small jobs around the house and carage and looked into many makes like DeWalt, Bosch, Makita etc. Then AEG's small size one hand saw cought my attention. Not very powerfull but surely will come handy in the jobs I have in mind.

Came with a nice pouch, few sawblades and a manufacturers 3 year warranty. The store extended this warranty to 5 years for free. So, I took it.

Don't have a clue where its actually made but the make is from Germany.

These new ones are not marked as "Italy"
But always produced in Italy? or in another country?

i heard "Asia" for the polished wrenches. The mat wrenches might be still from Italy ?

Oddly enough I got this in my change.

Can you buy european goods with Euro or DM in the US ? :D ;)

Gedore offers reasonable priced plastic trays

The cooling holes are all different to the Ridgid but resemblence is so close its most likely from the same production line. Well, cannot be all bad with that kind of warranty (note US members that here in Europe lifetime warranties are very rare with tools so 3-5 years for an electric tool is quite good).

My first post in this thread (and on the board) so I though I would share some of the old world tools from my very small collection.

Old Vessel flat blade (Anyone know approx. what year it's from?)

img1087ak.jpg

img1090l.jpg

"No name" needle nose pliers made in Japan (Probably from K-mart circa 1980s)

"Vigor" ? Needle nose pliers made in England

img1081er.jpg

img1082wb.jpg

One of the tips is broken. I have since cleaned these up and will grind the tips even so they are usable again.
img1083rl.jpg

Found Wera screwdrivers in this thread, I was wanting a good set of screwdrivers so I bought a set. I like em' so far, the lasertip certainly bites into screws and the handles are comfortable to use.

LOL! I have a Sjambok in the same duty ;)

I too like Metabo stuff. These screwdriver bits are nice and I've bought several sets and now have them at home, work, summer cottage etc. Haven't broken a single one in a year of use.

Metabo rock drill bits are also very nice - they last and last... I use them in the smaller jobs where electric drill is adequate (sizes 25 & 30mm).

1z1bvar.jpg

Prefer gas or pneumatic drills when possible though (Atlas Copco Swedish drills, rods and button bits or Finnish Robit button bits). I usually drill 35-41mm holes for non explosive agent and hydraulic splitters.

I have the same set.

Is Atlas Copco made in Sweden? Also I really like how those Robit bits look, very futuristic and sci fi. :)

That is what button bits look like. The buttons are carbide bits and do the actual cutting and the holes are for air or water flushing. Flushing is needed to exhaust rock dust out of the hole while drilling.

Atlas is a Swedish brand. They have manufacturing in Sweden but I am not sure what is made there today and what in their factories in India. Same quality though. I think my gas drill/breaker (Atlas Copco Cobra Combi) was made in Sweden. My Atlas Copco RH571-5L came came from their India factory.

Sandvik is another very high quality brand in this industry, also from Sweden. And a internationally popular Finnish brand in tophammer drills is Doofor. Popular drilling rigs (track or wheel based) include Atlas Copco, Sandvik and Tamrock (Finnish, now under Sandviks brand).

Rock in both Finland and Sweden is very hard so I think that is the reason many highest end tool brands for rock breaking industry come from these countries.

Actually they are not that bad but I have a very strong opinion that widely advertised "lasertips" are rather selling point than a real working thing.

Traditional screwdrivers (Wiha, Felo, Hazet, Megadora line from Vessel etc.) with a very smooth and well processed tip surface work and stick to the screw much much better. I have all of them in my toolbox and from my personal experience Felo insulated screwdrivers are probably the best.

明けましておめでとうございます。 (Happy New Year!)

Interesting stuff as usual. I liked seeing those old Beta stuff there, unknow82.

Monte, that lead hammer.... what's the intended use? Must weigh quite a bit for the size?

I recently used the Israeli made thread restorer tool for the first time. I had to thread chase the pressure screw on my smaller 3-jaw puller. I had attached a socket on the end of the pressure screw to aid in the pulling task at hand. I was able to get the job done; however, the socket was not removeable. I had to get the angle grinder out to cut the ******* in two peices. In that cutting process I mangled the threads slightly. It didn't look that bad, but it was buggered up enough to bind. So, out came the NES thread restorer to clean the thread up. The process was simple, painless, fast, and most importantly, works.

Pics 1 and 2 are before
Pics 3 and 4 are during
Pic 5 is after
Pic 6 is an obligatory German tool in use: 1/2" Hazet wrench for the pressure screw
Pic 7 is the chopped 1/2" drive 10mm socket ... a nice autopsy pic to view the construction of a standard socket :D

I am sure you know this but anyway: in general/automotive use one of the main attributes for a good screwdriver is very strong tip ie. it lasts a long time. This is never a good thing with firearms. There you want soft screwdrivers which will break before the screws do. Not cheap but you don't want to remake those maybe obsolete possibly hand made screws on a fine firearm.

I am sure Wera and all other general use screwdrivers are too hard for firearm screws - no matter what people say about their softness. They are still way too hard for fine screws which you want to remain perfect for decades. Additionally the tips rarely fit the screws perfectly so its not uncommon to file them until they are really perfect.

So, I suggest you continue to shop in Brownells for gun tools ;)

wow that´s a nice tool roll !

Metabo rock drill bits are also very nice - they last and last... I use them in the smaller jobs where electric drill is adequate (sizes 25 & 30mm).

nice drills !!

Monte, that lead hammer.... what's the intended use? Must weigh quite a bit for the size?

yeah quite heavy, 1 kilo with a small head, got it for 6 euro-bucks so i didn´t think much about usage yet :) A soft face hammer but with more "power" might be useful one day if space is limited. Also a lead hammer usually comes with this type of wheel to remove the spinner, my hammer is gone so i can use my new one for this task for example.

I recently used the Israeli made thread restorer tool for the first time.

nice "how to" pics !

Pic 7 is the chopped 1/2" drive 10mm socket ... a nice autopsy pic to view the construction of a standard socket :D

can you make autopsy pics of your other sockets too ?

:D

ps: Looks like a taiwanese socket :)

Also can anyone(Monte?) confirm if this is Swiss made?

That´s the malaysian one.

The more expensive one is the swiss one

Man I want one of those NES thread restorers. To bad they cost $$$$$. Next time you find some for cheap superautobacs please buy me one.

Anyhow, happened upon a good deal at a a local store on a Fein Multimaster Top Plus. Price was NOK 1999.

Forum is slower than a dead snail and won't upload pics so use the above link for now.
Edit: Got the pics up.

I'm sure Monte have 10 of these and some Supercuts on top for spite but this one is mine, all mine ahhahahahaha... :D

Made in Germany and is hefty as heck.
