Yes to left or right hand threads. In the set I have, two cover SAE 9-30tpi (maybe 32? I'd have to go check), and one covers metric thread pitch 0.75-3mm. Sykes Pickavant (and presumably some other brands) also do BSW/BSF versions.

I haven't tried them yet myself to say exactly what they will and won't accomplish, nor how easy they are to use; it worked well enough for the guy who sorted my grinder for me to want a set though. And they're cheap enough that if they get me out of a jam once or twice they'll have paid for themselves.

There's videos on youtube in case it's not obvious how they work:

ok i´m sold :) i´ll give them a try. This set right ?:

or rather this ?:

Happy New Year Monte!

Question: Does Wera sell a 1/4" bit holder 6 mm Wera Vario blade? If so, what am I missing (I would think they would)

Basically, do they offer a Vario blade for:

Suitable for hexagon socket insert bits as per DIN 3126-C 6.3 (ISO 1173) and Wera series 1

1/4" hexagon chuck, stainless steel sleeve, strong permanent magnet)

Need to take this:

80_ra.jpg

or this set

kk_vario_ra_imperial.jpg

and make this (without the bit storage)

Happy new year Monte, and to everyone else in this thread...

This has been 894 pages of interestingness, and I hope it will still be lurking
somewhere near the top of the board for the next year... Cheers...

If you're looking for a 6mm drive blade that allows you to use 1/4" bits I think you need Wera part number 05051835003 830 Vario bit holder adaptor.

http://www-us.wera.de/product_detai...mpakt_kraftform_kompakt_vario__830&lang=en-US

Wiha also makes a 6mm hex blade to insert bit adapter for their Drive-Loc/System 6 handles. I'm not sure how easy it is to purchase outside of a Drive-Loc or Topra bit set. I believe the part number is "281 45" or 28145.

Thanks; Do you know if they have one without the quick release? I didn't see one, I would rather not have the extra width for the quick release; ideally just have it like the ratcheting screwdriver

I couldn't find the last one you mention; What kit does that come in?

If you mean the Wiha one, it usually comes in the kits with the Topra ratcheting handle.

http://www.wihatools.com/pro_topra_.htm

It shoud be available separately, but it doesn't seem to be the most common item. This is an Ebay listing for the adapter by itself.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wiha-28145-1-4-Bit-Holder-Blade-For-Locking-Handle-/180969383776

This is an Ebay listing that includes it with a Drive-Loc handle.

UKTools - I think are best avoided. They seem to list everything regardless of whether they can actually provide it, or the lead-times involved. One or two people here have had issues with orders from them. In the UK I think these guys are the preferred/main Ko-ken seller: www.consolidatedtools.com/

Wow, thanks for the warning! Glad not to have to deal with that. Consolidated Tools does not offer shipping to Europe, so I have to continue the search.

I don't recall what's been discussed before, but have you looked at vapour blasting? I'm not sure if it's practical from a DIY perspective, but it seems to get good results.

Interesting, but seems to not be a DIY option. I found no info about places selling equipment at least. And also, with water as a media carrier iron can't be treated I would guess.

Thank you!
The ratcheting/box set would be great to have. Only one wrench to break loose and remove bolts. A bit pricey though, and even though I don't have any Britool Hallmark tools, I haven't heard much favourable opinions here...

These kind of wrenches seem to be expensive though, even cheaper brands are still pricey: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003AN3EJI/?tag=atomicindustr-21

result looks good ! But i heard if you want to use soda in a blast cabinet it might explode ??!?!? So only use it on the outside !?

not that i know of. Stahlwille would be the closest but theirs are 15 degree angled and spline drive :)

Explode? I could see how it might be a risk of a flour/sawdust explosion if the product was flammable, but AFAIK it isn't. I haven't used mine in a cabinet though, just in a empty room.

Stahlwille sounds good! No shiny chrome. Seem to exist in normal 12-point also:
http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Stahlwille...mm_Double_ended_ring_spanners_i3324_47713.htm
The angle I can live with I think. It's an extra 10cm of leverage from a 19mm Stahlwille 14 series. Thanks for the tip!

Are you maybe thinking of Britool Expert maybe? That stuff is generally not great, but the Hallmark range was I believe an independent spin off from around the time Britool was bought out by Facom and those tools tend to be of good quality. I recently bought a set of Britool Hallmark hard-handle screwdrivers that are very nice.

Yes, you are right, I mixed them up. I'm guessing these are still not made in the UK though?

Hard to say. My screwdrivers are made in France. I suppose you could email and ask. Prime Tools (who sometimes visit this board and have an excellent reputation) also sell Britool Hallmark, could probably give you a definitive answer:

www.primetools.co.uk

http://www.primetools.co.uk/product/130682

http://www.primetools.co.uk/product/130763

Or how about Stahlwille 220 (also shown at Prime Tools) -they look pretty long and flat, but obviously even more expensive.

Yes, that's the set I have. If you get them let us know how they compare to the other tool you have.
has to wait a bit unfortunately since i just broke off a tap so i need one of these Walton tap extractors first so the thread file money is gone :)

If there's anything you want from England, i can get it for you and send it to you myself. :)

That's a very nice offer! Thank you very much! I think I will be able to find a solution now that does not bother anybody else though.

If it is a quality product, COO is not that important. Yes, I have talked to PrimeTools here on the forum previously, and I think they would be the best solution to get them.

The Stahlwilles sure are nice. But the price is a bit too much for me I think.

Somebody else might have something smart to add to my decision process also, so a bit of background:

My main wrenches are Facom 440s. I love them for comfort and design. They just fell so good in the hand. But they have a drawback, they are quite short. And since I always try to avoid abusing tools, it doesn't feel right. I thought about getting a second set of wrenches, a long set. Looked at Gedore 7XL and Stahlwille 14 mostly. Then I thought about the long, straight wrenches I see all the time here in american toolboxes. They should be perfect for my needs, a bit of extra leverage. So that's why I asked the question if the first place, since getting hold of american tool truck brands here is usually expensive and to much hassle.

yeah something like that...dust and then bang :) we will see....i´ll try it... :)

Be careful! :) But I can't imagine that it can ignite, it is a stable mineral...

Hello guys, greetings from Bulgaria and happy new year to all. I need an advice because i'm gonna buy welding helmet. I welding only in home, not professional, 2 or 3 times per week. Found second hand 3M Speedglass 100 V for 80 euro. How do you think? It will be a good solution for my welding problems or i have to search something different? Thank you.

Careful with the second hand helmets. The batteries do not last forever.

We had a Optrel Satellite which only lasted about 4 years. There is no easy way of replacing the battery - you are supposed to buy the complete cartridge.

Currently have a SifLite, going strong for about 4 years now:

Excellent helmet for the price and gets great reviews on welding forums.

Those are really nice. Have you bought over that site Van? OK experience? Reasonable shipping times?

I've always had fast and excellent service the times I've had stuff sent directly from Mutsuura - I usually consolidate my Rakuten purchases into a single shipment using a forwarding service. They are outstanding people to deal with and their packaging is first class.

Does anyone know of a way of purchasing a Dolex vise for USA delivery? I tried emailing Dolex customer service to ask if they knew of a distributor that would ship to the US, and they responded that they no longer had a distributor here (which I knew).

I tried emailing (in English) two French retailers that advertise the 50 series vise that I want - Outiland and Quincaillerie.Pro. Neither has responded.

you'll, maybe, get an answer if somebody there can read english, if not, you'll never ever hear back from them. that and they usually don't want to ship internationally: too bothersome(a bit like customers :D).

if you want i can translate your message for resending and then their answers if you get one...

Do you can try it before welding ? But i guess it should work well. Afaik all Speedglas helmets have replaceable batteries.

Careful with the second hand helmets. The batteries do not last forever.

afaik the newer Optrel helmets (e670 etc.) have normal replaceable batteries.

...and latest addition to my Hazet garage equipment (168N):

Merry Christmas to me :D
