I had it in my head that they were a manufacturer or at least used to be but you may be right. It would explain the lack of interest outside of the UK. Do you know who makes their 'red line' pliers? The forged 'Germany' is quite distinctive.

They don't mention any factories or such on their homepage, just the UK office address. So if they own any facilities they're secretive of them.

Can't say for sure, but I would guess OrbisWill makes their pliers. I recognise their water pump pliers as OrbisWill, and some of their other models has a OrbisWill look to them. I can't say if they all are though.

It looks like the serration peaks on the upper jaw fit precisely into the serration valleys on the lower jaw of the needle nose whereas the other combination pliers are peak to peak. Is that right? Looks like it might be ideal for thin wire.

You see correct. The jaws are interlocking so to say. They really have put many small extra functions into these pliers jaws.

Saw this vice test video where he tests a couple of vices to the breaking limit. Impressive to see the Brockhaus Heuer twist before breaking, it really shows the difference between forged and cast.

Love the Hazet cabinet and tools!

Recently picked up a long handled 1/2" Stahlwille ratchet, model 532G. It has 36 teeth and a sealed head. Feels great and quite sturdy, but certainly not the best back drag of the ones I've tried. Nothing else so far comes close to the zero back drag of the Gedore ratchet.

The handle is detachable, where I presume longer and shorter handles can be swapped, though I can't find any in their catalogue. Maybe it's just for easier storage? The detachment mechanism allows a little radial play in the handle, though I can't see that ever being a problem. The grip is more comfortable than it looks.

Also shown next to my other old world 1/2" ratchets for comparison, from shortest to longest.

Seems like the pictures got messed up in my last post. Here they are again in case they're not showing up for people.

Do they make a torque wrench handle for it? Seeing the decapitated ratchet head reminds me of this:

https://shop.snapon.com/categories/675242

very handy because you can use a ratcheting head or fixed head (plus others if you spend the $$ which I never have done)

I received this today
Stahlwille 512QR
Brand new Old stock for a good price

But i think something is weird with this ratchet
If you take a closer look, the quick release knob and the back cap is not dead center to the head body.
I dont know if its bad product, fake, or maybe quality check error. Although i don't think the last option is true

Try the ratchet by tightening a bolt very tight and then check that the ratchet has not stuck, I.e. the ratcheting is still ok.

I had a couple that I had to return after the mechanism in them got stuck.

New vid from Facom. Facom OGV® GRIP bits EN - Rounded hex fastener remover. May not be a new product but I haven't seen them before.

They look like they would be useful if they work. Think I've rounded out more allen head fasteners than any other type. Especially in smaller sizes.

Wiha 75988 micro bits. Torx T1-10. 4mm hex.

Buying some 4mm bits to cover rarely used sizes I don't have in precision screwdrivers. Also looking for a good handle. Most seem to be very low quality Chinese sets. Got this set off Amazon UK but it came from Amazon US.

IMG-9382.jpg

IMG-9386.jpg

Bits look to be well finished with no obvious defects.

IMG-9424.jpg

I have the Wiha/Xiaomi set and find the bits to be a little soft. Not sure where the set is made.

IMG-9391.jpg

Wiha/Xiaomi on the bottom.

4mm bit compared to standard 1/4" (6.35mm) bit.

Monte: I agree that you were missed!! Welcome back cause this thread especially has always been better with you at the helm even though several good members did keep it going while you were gone.

Cheers

Won’t: I mentioned it on your vintage thread and I’ll say it again here that your old Hazet collection is awesome.

@Monte: I would ask you by private message, but your inbox is full.
I am searching for a good bench grinder for my shop.
What would you choose between a Bosch - GBG 60-20 (600 W) and a Bernardo DS 200 S (three phase, 1250 W). The price is the same.
Or can you recommend something else?

Thanks!
Old ones from AEG, Metabo, KEF, Rema, Flott...

What's happened to Monte ? This thread has an incredible 13 million views but he last checked in on 09-25-2018

Resting perhaps...
:) Winter sleep ;)

Or he is working 24x7 to pay for the tools[emoji16].
That´s closer :) ;)

Hi Monte, I am interested to buy a Frico 5 kW heater like yours, I want to know its price and where to buy, here, in France, I can´t find it, In Holland, my COO, neither. Important for me: does it make much noise? (I like Pabst fans however!) Tnx
I found it on ebay.de for a good price..... It´s quite silent (Fan motor is from a german make :) )
A couple new hammers, both made in Germany.

I like the feel of the Matador hammer. The handle is nicely contoured and it feels well balanced.

The Bahco feels like it's a bit too weighty at the base of the handle, which makes it a little harder to swing. It also has an uneven finish. The laquer feels too thick and it's not well sanded in a couple areas.
The Matador hammer most likely is from HKR: http://www.hkr-werkzeuge.de/en/plastic-hammers.html
The Bahco hammer is a Belzer design.

Picked up these E.A. Berg No. 2528 offset or bent-nose dykes at the flea market today. Only the second Berg pliers I have ever found in the wild. The others are dykes, too, No. 1525, only 4 inches long, with the shark logo and a 1947 date stamp on the inside of the handle, posted on this thread back in March of this year, linked here. These have no shark logo and no date stamp, unfortunately.

yay, Monte!
:)
:)
Interesting. Thanks for the info!
On a different topic, does anyone know anything about the Bosch Professional pliers? They're currently 15% off on Amazon.de, but I can't find any info anywhere online about them other than the reviews on Amazon.de. Does anyone know who makes these, where they're made, how the quality stacks up to other known German plier brands like Knipex, VBW, NWS, etc.?
All of the Bosch hand tools are from china. They do look nice though.
Needed small level for portable toolbox, found this one for good price ;)
Does anyone know where Kapro spirit levels are made?
afaik israel
(I suspect Elora does their own handles. I can't imagine VBW letting that kind of handle finish quality leave their works.)
The Elora pliers are made by http://www.otra-zangen.com/index.php/en/standard-pliers
Hi, Monte! I hope all is well!
yes , thanks !
Hi monte, is wagener from germany?
Some wrenches seem to have "Germany" on them...
http://www.wagenerwerkzeuge.com/en/index.htm
But i have never seen these tools live.......

ALL: since I don't always see tools from your side of the world I usually pick them up if they are a decent price even if i'm not sure what they are used for.

not sure what these are for so i'll post them and maybe one of you know.

wood handled with metal ends that look like cutters or scrapers.

Paint scrapers or ???

I thought that script logo ones always had year stamp, strange. I can't remember exactly, but script logo ones should be 40-50s I think, but don't quote me on that. A nice pair anyway!

An older style of paint scrapers I would say.

Some of my own recent pickups:
IMG_7776.jpg

Got the Heuer vice for €35, very happy with that. I was going to re-paint it first, but changed my mind and has only brushed away the worst spots and oiled it up for now.

Also got the 2019 Wera advent calendar, a nice kit but I mostly got it for the cork screw :)

The Bahco hammer is a Belzer design.

Thanks, that's definitely it, right down to the stamps on the handle.

Looks like HKR makes screwdrivers as well. I like the simplicity of their acetate handled drivers. I wonder how they compare to Witte, Athlet, Facom, Oplast, or others. Has anyone tried the HKR screwdrivers?

I'm not a big fan of that Bahco/Belzer hammer, but I have some other Bahco hammers that are made in Italy and look like maybe they're rebranded from Osca, which are great.

All of the Bosch hand tools are from china. They do look nice though.
Oh, thanks. The handles look like they'd be solid and comfortable, but the pliers themselves I thought looked a little cheap. They have that light-duty, boxy design around the joint thatI've seen on the cheaper Orbis pliers that I don't really like, which is why I ended up passing on them.

Oh wow, I had assumed they were made by Orbis given the similarities. Other than the handles, they seem identical when held side by side.

Of course it's not the first time I've seen two different tools from different plants that seem nearly identical. I posted some Facom locking pliers a while back that are bang on identical to my Grip Ons except that the finish isn't as nice and they're made in China or Taiwan.

Finally completed my set of Irega 99s, from 4" up to 24"! I prefer the black oxide finish both aesthetically and how it feels in the hand, but I've just been getting whatever I could find on sale, so the 4" and 24" are both the chrome finish instead. I'm actually not sure the 24" comes in black oxide finish anyway.

Across the set, they're variously branded as Irega, Elora, and Channelock. If you're going to do this, I don't recommend mixing and matching European and American brands as I did, as the screws are reversed in a few of them. Oddly enough, the 4" also has the reversed screw of the Channelocks, even though it's another Elora. Not a huge deal for me. Other than the OCD, it usually just takes me half a second to realize and start turning the other way, which is fine given how seldomly I need them.

The final addition was the 18" Channellock branded wrench. You can we it here next to the Facom 18" adjustable as well. Not sure where the Facom is made, as there was no COO on the packaging or tool itself. The Facom is lighter by about 300g, and thinner, especially around the head, which means it'll probably be easier to get into tight spaces. Then again, how tight can any space be at the point you're pulling out the 18" adjustable wrench?
